Regardless of if you’ve played every Darksiders game or this is your first one, Darksiders Genesis is worth playing. The characters and combat remain fun and exciting to play even after the credits roll. While some enemies can be annoying, combat never gets dull and new items you earn along the way always make encounters fresh. Amongst the other big titles launching this spring, Darksiders Genesis is one that shouldn’t be missed.

Darksiders Genesis is a rousing achievement, taking the pillars of the franchise and bringing them to a new genre and perspective. That shift is pulled off almost to perfection, creating one of the better games in the franchise and a satisfying and rewarding combat experience with a lot of meat on its bones.

While not as polished as the PC version, Darksiders Genesis loses none of the effortless charm, cool, or playability on console. A great addition to the franchise and a must-have for the fans.

Sympathetic heroes and a great gameplay flow make the Darksiders perspective change not only interesting for fans.

Irritations and annoyances aside, Darksiders Genesis is still fantastic stuff. It’s a reinvigorating return to form for the franchise, taking the best of the series and remixing it with a few new ideas that make for a great diversion over a dozen hours of escapism.

Darksiders Genesis is not Darksiders 4, but it’s still a worthwhile addition to the Darksiders saga.

Darksiders turns into a top-down hack-and-slash title... and turns out to be all the better for it. Some minor annoyances don't weigh up to the sheer amount of fun this game holds in store for you, solo or in co-op. The deep and varied combat system forms the proverbial cherry on the cake.

Darksiders Genesis is a low budget, low priced full fledged title with a lenghty campaign and some impressive setpieces, tons of collectibles and a surprisingly deep combat system.

A fun, cathartic romp through demonic armies, with two fun characters that offer plenty of personality and an interesting alternative to other Diablo style role-players.

Despite the lack of polish and variety Darksiders Genesis is an entertaining spin-off that keeps a lot of the franchises’ staples intact.

Even though I'm a tad disappointed with Darksiders Genesis, there's no denying how solid of a game it is. Plus, it's fantastic that its cooperative component is handled as well as it is because playing it with a chum is definitely the way to go.

Darksiders Genesis is a welcome change of pace. Fan of the series might question whether or not they will like the dramatic overhaul, but this is a really solid Diablo style of game that is a lot of fun to play. I enjoyed the new character a good deal and have always appreciated the world these games were set in. The wheel is not getting reinvented here, but the overall execution is generally well done.

Darksiders Genesis changes the camera angle but brings a lot of what fans enjoy about the main series. It does get a little repetitive but the road to 100% is addictive and everything's better in co-op.

Visibility issues aside, Darksiders Genesis is a solid port of a solid action-RPG. It’s accessible for both Darksiders fans and those who’ve never played anything from the franchise before. While there’s nothing truly remarkable on offer here, Genesis nails all the fundamentals of satisfying demon-bashing.

Make no mistakes, Darksiders Genesis plays and feels like a Darksiders game. It’s just not a particularly strong one. Repetitive enemy encounters, simplistic puzzle design and average platforming all stop Genesis from being as good as it could be. Co-op is a blast, as is the great dynamic between War and Strife, but it doesn’t save the experience in the end.

Darksiders Genesis is an unexpectedly great mix of Darksiders and Diablo. You will mainly hack and slash your way through the levels, but clever puzzles, fun explorations and challenging platforming makes the adventure feel familiar yet fresh at the same time. Sure, the game feels a bit low-budget at time, and especially the control and camera could use some fine-tuning. But overall, Airship Syndicate has created a real gem for anyone who wants a slightly smarter and more varied action game.

What may have been a solid experience a few years back feels too stale in 2020. Darksiders Genesis is completely competent in its own right, but it doesn't do enough to differentiate itself from previous iterations despite a change in perspective. Combat is a highlight and the Creature Core system provides some depth, however, they're about the only two features we can muster any enthusiasm for.

I've been a fan of Darksiders since Joe Mad announced the first one. Being biased does play into it, but having bought Genesis on the Switch,I've been a fan of Darksiders since Joe Mad announced the first one. Being biased does play into it, but having bought Genesis on the Switch, I am so so happy!! It's exactly what most will want from a Darksiders game aside from the top down perspective. All the combos, combat, executions, exploration, and fun goodies are all there! Don't believe everything you read on PushSquare, they don't know what they're talking about. Full Review »
