Superb zombie-slaying combat and enjoyable motorcycle gameplay are integrated perfectly with a well-paced story. But the game’s major highlights are the terrifying zombie hordes which are unlike anything seen in a videogame so far.

Bend Studio delivered a great narrative game, innovative mechanics, addictive gameplay, a very well-considered progression curve, great audio design, stunning graphics, and it's very fun to play. The hordes of the game are something that we've never seen and are simply amazing, an impressive technological display that's not just surprising but a lot of fun. Days Gone is a very welcome addition to the PlayStation classics library.

A huge open-world horror, stealth-action, adventure melting pot that manages to tap into everything we love about Sony’s games while finding its own voice buried beneath the horde of ideas. Days Gone has been worth the wait. [Issue#162, p.74]

Days Gone checks all the boxes of a proverbial PlayStation exclusive, but never feels like it’s stepping on anyone else’s toes. Despite the games, film, and TV that you can easily draw comparisons too, Days Gone handles it all in such a way that it has its own unique identity. The more I played it, the more I loved it, until finally finishing the long journey and not wanting the adventure to end. Sam Witwer is brilliant as Deacon St. John, and his journey of survival, humanity, and self-discovery through a deadly world via motorcycle is a memorable one that shouldn’t be missed.

I can’t think of many other open world games that pack in as much character, as much wonderfully crafted narrative that Days Gone does. Sure, it’s a story about a world overrun with a deadly virus. But it’s also a story about people, about hope, about survival. It's at times uplifting, others heartbreaking. Couple that with Days Gone's beautiful setting and a varied array of well-designed story missions, and you're left with something pretty special.

Days Gone does not doing anything we haven't seen before, but it does have its own unique style. Exploring the beautiful world where Deacons story and the side missions are a great combination: this game is very enticing.

Days Gone is an exceptionally refined and gorgeous open-world action adventure game. It doesn't bring a whole lot new to the table but what it does offer is hours upon hours of exciting gameplay and a layered (albeit often overly verbose) narrative.

Bend Studio made a great game with a rich, believable and captivating story. They’ve also resisted the lure of trends: there’s no multiplayer, no lootboxes, no “game as a service” plans – just a very solid (and finite) singleplayer experience. That makes it a rare gem these days, maybe one of the last of its kind. [Issue#238, p.42]

Days Gone might be one of the most entertaining survival games we've ever played. It presents a strong narrative and systems that make the game always unpredictable. It may not be a "must have", but it sure is a damn fun video game.

Days Gone has become one of the great titles in the PlayStation catalog, and although it does not exceed the quality of the great titans of its generation, offers between 40 and 50 hours of fun, with a good narrative and a great character.

The tension is not always extremely high and the story is missing the epic nature of The Last of Us, but if you're looking for an awesome single-player adventure for those long spring evenings, then Days Gone is the game for you.

Even with all the promotion we're seeing now, Days Gone still carries the aura of a title that could be miscast and possibly overlooked at a glance, like it was for me a few years ago. You don't know until you play, and this stands as one the more pleasant and satisfying surprises of the year for me. It's been a long road to this game, but the ride is worth it.

Days Gone puts Bend Studio once again on the map of all PlayStation gamers after many years of oblivion. While it doesn't deliver any meaningful innovations in terms of open world and gameplay mechanics, it's a fun game that sports gorgeous graphics and a surprisingly great story/cast of characters, easily paving the way for a sequel to the stories of Deacon 'the Drifter' St. John.

For better or for worse, Day Gone exceeds expectations. Bend Studio focuses heavily on the plot of its latest work, sometimes even at the expense of the gameplay, forced to adapt to the narrative needs of the survival game. Despite this, Days gone is still a very unique experience, thanks to its extremely recognizable personality shining through.

A game doesn’t need to be perfect to be enjoyable, but it does need to have substance and Days Gone has this in handfuls. Days Gone is a game that deserves a player’s patience and perseverance as only then will you get to experience the game as it is intended. The story opens up and becomes more in-depth the longer you play and leads to you uncovering more important information.
  21. 80
Sure, it's clunky at points, has enough rough edges to cut someone, and is perhaps too slow in getting to the good stuff, but give Days Gone and Deacon a chance and they will win you over.

In Days Gone I receive all features I like in video games - atmosphere, interesting characters, realism, well-made shooting, and cool stealth mechanics. Despite that Days Gone may be a real disappointment for fans of Ubisoft's open world games - there's a lot of content but it's all based on the story-driven campaign. It's a long storyline but there's nothing else to do.

Although not without flaws (mainly the uninspired shooting and stealth elements) and a frame rate that needs to be more stabilized, Days Gone still is a commendable first effort from Bend Studio to the big leagues of AAA games. The world they crafted is filled with quality writing and a very strong lead character with Deacon St. John, who is likeable and as flawed as needed in order for him to be more humane than the typical "knight in shining armor".

Make no mistake, though, this is still a well-made game, albeit with a lot of familiar elements underneath the zombie apocalypse veneer. PS4 players should still absolutely play the game and they will come away satisfied as a whole. Just know that this isn’t the same type of top to bottom hit that some past Sony exclusives have been.

Days Gone is a blend of multiple open-world and zombie games. Even though the gameplay stays pretty much the same throughout the entire game, the acting, riding your motorcycle and the survival bits make this game worth while.

Days Gone is a grim, beautiful B-movie; its action and writing are full of pulpy thrills, and by the end of it, I found myself liking a character called Deacon St. John – an achievement in itself.

Days Gone is a very enjoyable game, with a beautiful setting, some interesting ideas and a good story, but Bend Studio has bitten off more than it could chew, and it shows. It takes too many things from open-world adventures, and the execution doesn’t always live up to the expectations. Overall, it’s entertaining and solid, but a less ambitious project would’ve end up being better.
  33. 80
Days Gone overcomes loose controls, familiar mechanics and gameplay loops, and a well-worn setting to tell a very relatable story featuring one of my favorite characters in recent years.

Days Gone features a huge and beautifully looking open world that's great to explore. The game is, however, plagued by many bugs that take away from the experience overall. It's a shame since the story, characters and enemies make the game so much fun to play.

Like the winding roads of Farewell Wilderness that contain both serenity and danger, Days Gone is a journey with a winding range of emotions. Though the game borrows heavily from other open-world games, Bend Studios has done a solid job melding it together into a package that’s more than the sum of its parts.

Luxurious environments and tons of content make Days Gone a good choice for open world lovers. But the ambitious adventure crafted by Bend Studio has more than a few annoying issues and shortcomings under the hood.
  37. Apr 25, 2019

Days Gone is fun and satisfying, but its artificial lengthening and not deviating from the standard of open world games in most of its mechanics and activities (except for the Horde) cause it not to shine as much as other PS4 exclusives.

With jaw-dropping graphics, fantastic music, great gameplay, likeable characters - and terrifying hordes - it is hard to tell that Days Gone is Bend Studios first truly big-budget game. Even though the game is not as polished as the best first party games from Sony, it still might end up as one this year’s best single player experiences.

Days Gone tries its best to bring something new to the table of an already overused post-apocalyptic zombie shooter genre. It gets some things right and some things not that great, but as an overall experience, it's a game packed with a great atmosphere and some darn fun exploration. If you liked games like Mad Max or you're in absolute love with the zombie survival games, try not to miss this one.
  41. 80
Though a touch derivative and brought low on occasion by the odd technical issue, Days Gone is a sprawling and handsomely made open-world adventure that contains a surprising amount of heart and ample amounts of violence to match.

Like the world it’s set in, Days Gone is a game that’s a little rough around the edges. Yet it persists, taking characters that are easy to write off and fills them with a surprising amount of heart.

It has rough patches, but Days Gone is a good time. Ripping across the vast wilderness looking for hordes to wipe out is undoubtedly fun, and Deacon’s sort of comic book story is competent. Is it an excellent open world game? Not quite. Is it worth playing? Oh yeah. The gorgeous and well-built environment is a treat, and the mechanical twists on the Sony’s first party formula make Days Gone a nice spring surprise.
  44. 80
For its strengths and its faults, I kept finding myself drawn back to the game’s evocative narrative all the way through. Even after the open world shenanigans and tedious emphasis on combat wore me down, I carried on at the thought of finding out more about characters who at that point were starting to feel like real people. And at the centre of it all, is Deacon St. John – a callous, cold-blooded ex-biker ex-military mercenary, but he’s got an enormous heart, and that makes all the difference. The whole game is a joy to play, because of the optimism which he and his friends build up over the course of what is otherwise a bleak and empty landscape. And this is more than a fitting summary for Days Gone – a zombie game in 2019 featuring open-world mechanics we’ve all seen before – but like Deadon, the team at Bend Studio have got an enormous hearts, and, just like with Deacon, that makes all the difference.

Days Gone is one of the better zombie games in recent years. It doesn't beat out the Resident Evil 2 remake (very few games do) as being my go-to zombie fix, but it's an entertaining if somewhat unevenly-paced adventure through post-apocalyptic Oregon.

It took a few hours to get under my skin. But now that I've gotten into a rhythm with its post-apocalyptic horror-survivalist aspects, Days Gone puts on a good little self-serious road drama.

With a large and beautiful open world, swollen hordes of infected freakers, and over 30 hours of story, Days Gone is a well-polished game on the surface. However, the game does not offer anything truly remarkable, and maintaining your bike can be annoying. That said, its strengths lie in exploring its open world by bike, and the qualities of its biker protagonist, Deacon.

The concept, atmosphere, and some parts of Days Gone's gameplay are very similar to The Last of Us. Considering it's an open-world game, it's even more fun than TLOS in terms of exploring. Dealing with thousands of zombies is both exciting and challenging. The story is just fine, but the ending confuses me because it doesn't make everything clear in a way that makes sense. What's more, the frame rate is unstable, and it would be much more fluent were they to fix the problem.
  51. Apr 25, 2019

Days Gone has good gameplay foundations. The scarcity of supplies and ever-present threat of zombies put me on edge as much as it gave me options to escape by the skin of my teeth. But the inability to fully deliver on either the story or open world fronts makes it a title of both possibilities and limitations.
  52. Apr 25, 2019
    78
Days Gone is a solid game that lacks substance. The story has some cool twists but doesn’t move forward fast enough. Hordes are cool and let the game finally shine, but why hide them for so long?
  53. I played Days Gone, and I thought that if Sony Bend Studio had more time to develop this game, it could be something far better than this product, even one of the best games of this generation.

I expect and hope for a sequel. Just know that going into this game that there is a lot of tedious nonsense to pad out a really good game to make it feel more worth every dollar, much to its detriment. I want to give this game a better score because the best moments are so good, but the large portion of this game is so bloody tiring that I just can’t.

The game has weak shooting systems and some bad weapons, much like Red Dead Redemption II. But while the other games have been highly rated, Days Gone has had its legs cut out by the bugs.

Although Days Gone is suffering from tons of technical issues and, of course, unbelievably weak AI, it still manages to make up for them by offering solid, diverse gameplay, wonderful atmosphere and world design, and great music and sound design. Let's just hope that Sony gives Bend Studio another chance.

Days Gone has potential to be enjoyed as a nice survival experience, but its inconsistent story and boring missions make us feel like it should be a much better game.

Days Gone is an ambitious new IP that borrows heavily from its influences. It still maintains its own identity and features some genuinely fun gameplay. It's unfortunately held back by countless technical issues, but if you're willing to tolerate these, the moment to moment gameplay is enjoyable. While there's nothing revolutionary about the game, it's worth a go if you're a zombie fan.

Sadly, Days Gone ends up as a failure regarding the attempt at creating one of the best survival games on the market. Despite the fact that it is a fun game, it has far too many errors to be considered a must-have title. The story is inconsistent, the missions tend to become repetitive and there are plenty of problems in stability as well as bugs that, in essence, make this one of the weakest exclusive games to be found on the PlayStation 4.
  60. Apr 25, 2019
    75
Days Gone is incredibly moving, but occasionally frustrating. Just when you start to get burnt out on resource collection and uniform side-missions, the story suddenly hooks you back in. Despite Deacon’s impatience and short temper, his story is often compelling. His actions have consequences, and the map evolves as you make positive and negative changes. Unfortunately, it can also be buggy and less than believable, which is heart-breaking considering the care given to this world and its characters.
  61. Apr 25, 2019

With its nice gameplay, many weapons and a good mix of stealth and action, Days Gone could be a great game. But it also has many technical flaws, its writting is muddled at best and has no subtlety.

Days Gone is a pretty good Open World Action game. However, it does have the usual issues that we can see in many Open World games as it does not bring anything new to the table and you won't see the massive hordes of zombies rushing to feast upon you until the second half of the game.

If you're hungry for a new weekend-filling zombie adventure on PS4, Days Gone is an easy rental recommendation. If you're already working your way through a big-game backlog, on the other hand, you should probably spend your days on other fare. [Impressions]
  2. Apr 25, 2019
A disappointing dud among the litany of quite remarkable recent PlayStation exclusives. After epics such as God Of War, Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn, this is a game that wavers between boring and frustrating. A game that’s had more than enough time in development, and which has such uninspired design choices at its core, that more time probably wouldn’t have solved them. Days Gone simply doesn’t offer anything sufficiently fresh or interesting to carry it to the finish line.
  3. Apr 25, 2019
A frequently gorgeous, sadly generic open-world game that runs out of steam well before its extended play-time is over.
  4. Apr 25, 2019
It's . . . fine, I guess? Not something I'd urge you to go pick up on day one, but a pretty good time-suck regardless. I like it, I just don't love it. I don't hate it, either. It's just perfectly okay. [Impressions]
  5. Apr 25, 2019
Look no further than the game developers calling the zombies “freakers,” and expecting us to take that as something new.
  6. Apr 25, 2019
Days Gone seems like an accurate reflection of how things would go after an actual, IRL zombie apocalypse: clumsy, violent, and filled with failure.
  7. May 2, 2019
Like a zombie, it lurches through the motions, hungry for brains, lacking its own.
  8. Apr 25, 2019
Days Gone is by far the weakest Sony-backed PS4 exclusive to have come out in a while. Doesn't mean it's bad, it's just not particularly great. It takes inspiration from Red Dead Redemption, The Last of Us, and plenty other games, but fails to find its own voice or sense of charm. It's alright though, if you want yet another zombie game.
  9. Apr 25, 2019
The problem is that it’s all wrapped around a painfully generic zombie story, one that ultimately plays out like a dozen games you’ve experienced before. All of that effort feels wasted, especially in a world where Sony also publishes the brilliant The Last of Us, which took a seemingly straightforward post-apocalyptic zombie narrative in interesting new directions. Meanwhile, in Days Gone, the end of the world is somehow incredibly bland.
  10. Apr 25, 2019
I would’ve gladly dealt with choppy gameplay if it meant more horde encounters, as they were truly the highlight of Days Gone. SIE Bend Studio at least reignited my interest in zombie-fighting, a genre with little gas in the tank after years of movies, TV shows and video games dealing with the living day. Sad, then, that Days Gone saves its best moments as a kind of reward for slogging through a cliche-ridden journey across post-apocalyptic Oregon, tied to a sullen and angry hero.
  11. Apr 25, 2019
The lack of seamless transitions between gameplay and cutscenes means you’re often staring at a black screen as the game interrupts you, the story is predictable, your activities are repetitive, and the technical issues – frame rate drops, freezes, and myriad bugs – are a constant annoyance. While it’s still slightly better than most recent Xbox One exclusives, Days Gone just isn’t anywhere near the quality of the majority of PS4 first-party releases.
  12. Apr 25, 2019
And that’s Days Gone in a nutshell: a waste of time that doesn’t get you anything decent in return. I could have written everything here after a few hours of playing, but I kept thinking “There’s gotta be something around the corner to justify all this.” And so I’d play a few hours, and then a few more. Soon, a big plot turn was being communicated, and so I gave the game another chance. But that, like Deacon’s code, was just a long con. A game with a billion carrots on a stick, but no matter how many you eat, you’re still hungry, but at that point, the sunk cost of eating these damn carrots is so large you might as well keep eating.
