The game is as fun and challenging as it was back in the day, and the updates and additions are sweet enough to make even stingy DMC fans shell out.

This remastered version of Devil May Cry 4 has the same problems of the original one. The heavy backtracking and few issues with the camera system are enough to get the player bored. But the combat system and the gameplay are pretty good, so if you'll manage to stand the backtracking, you'll still have a lot of fun.

Although the ravages of time are evident on this version, additional adjustments of its gameplay get it on the top of the genre. The camera is irritating and the same we can say about the level design, we can hardly blame remaster for it. Moreover, it does not change anything on the fact; this is a must-have for all fans of the genre.

If you enjoyed the original Devil May Cry 4 despite its repetitive nature and you know you want to invest time into learning the new characters, then we recommend you pick up the game. But if you only have a passing interest and the sound of three playthroughs isn’t music to your ears, then we suggest you wait until the next iteration in the Devil May Cry series.

Still as crazy and over-the-top as only a Devil May Cry game can be and that's a good thing. This is the game's most complete version too, though the graphical upgrade isn't especially impressive.

The options have improved with new characters and better graphics but the gameplay feels old, the level design is poor and the platform parts are completely uncontrollable. Everything you see has been done better on DmC, no matter Dante's new look.

Capcom did a lot more than just spruce up the graphics and add in some concept art with the DMC4 Special Edition. The new playable content makes this a significantly different game than it was seven years ago, and one that any DMC fan should own.

Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition gives beat'em up lovers what they want: a thousand ways to play the game, enjoying it once again to take their score to upper levels. They are the ones who will truly enjoy this return, and the target of this remaster.

It's not a remaster for everyone. It delves into the most deep aspects of gameplay mechanics, although carrying along every misstep of the original game.

It still has the occasional poorly-placed camera, and the graphics have not aged too well, but overall it’s a high-octane mix of platforming and combat interspersed with the occasional puzzle. Pick it up if you want your action fix.

Excellent port of one of the most strange and attractive JRPG released so far on PS3. Complex and compelling battles awaits.

Had Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition addressed the real problems from the original game, while also keeping some of the high-profile additions, it could've really been something. Instead, it feels like a repackaging that doesn't quite have its heart in the right place.

If you already love Devil May Cry 4, then this brand new special edition is everything you could hope for. It looks great, runs fast and is loaded with playable characters. On the other hand, new players may not be able to overlook some of the game's outdated designs, including fixed camera perspectives and tons of backtracking.

Stylish action games have evolved a lot in recent years, and this release skillfully straddles the line between new and old. The extra characters offer more variety and versatility that any fan of the genre should appreciate. They don’t completely mask the other problems, but the inventive twists on the content ultimately outweigh the legacy complaints.
