I might not have enjoyed it quite as perfectly as Dishonored 2, but Death of the Outsider is a fittingly melancholy way to wrap up a story arc I've loved. The Empire of the Isles is a strange and exquisitely horrible world, and this entry is no different.

Death of the Outsider is a fantastic addition to the Dishonored universe that once again brings the broken city of Karnaca to life. Exploring Arkane Studios’ beautifully realised world feels fresh once again thanks to Billie Lurk, a morally ambiguous heroine with a flexible repertoire of skills that are a joy to experiment with. Death of the Outsider achieves more in terms of content and narrative than many games strive for, which is a fascinating achievement considering its meagre price tag.

Death of the Outsider might be smaller in scope (and launch price) than the first two games, yet Arkane has crafted a game that meets the quality of design found in those games. It takes the best bits of the series and improves them, putting together a story that feels personal despite its huge ambition and featuring what may be the best Dishonored protagonist yet. If Death of the Outsider ends up being the closing chapter for the Dishonored series, then it is a truly fitting conclusion.

This is a decent expansion to Dishonored 2 and sets up a new, potentially interesting status quo for the series, but it takes out so much of what Dishonored 2 had under the hood that it feels a bit slight by comparison, and the few brand-new additions are heavily limited. I don’t regret playing it, but it’s hard to say more about it than that it’s a stripped-down pseudo-sequel.

Death of the Outsider is smaller, more focused standalone expansion that eschews some of the series’ superfluous mainstays to deliver a core, action-stealth experience. If this is the end for Dishonored, then it’s gone out in style.

Billy Lurk is in town and everyone may know it. Death of the Outsider gives you a brand new adventure an although it is a stand alone expansion, it feels like a new game. It keeps you busy for hours and challenges you in every corner.

A fantastic expansion to an excellent game, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a macabre joy to play from start to finish.

Whether or not you already played Dishonored, you can trust Death of the Outsider which grants us a very good story an impeccable gameplay and enough new stuff to keep the seasoned player on edge.

Death of the Outsider ultimately emerges as a strong chapter in one of the best modern action/RPG series thanks to gameplay refinements and dedication to its dark fiction. This standalone expansion doesn’t revolutionize the series but instead does something more important, navigating the familiar to bring everything to a satisfying conclusion.

It was wonderfully satisfying to have more Dishonored to play, even if Death of the Outsider doesn’t quite meet the high bar Dishonored 2 set in story or mission design. Even though it’s a shorter and slightly shallower game, there are some exciting new abilities and interesting changes to the energy system, and the freedom from consequences of Chaos further encourage experimentation and freedom. All in all, it’s a worthy end to the story that began five years ago.

Death of the Outsider keeps all the virtues of the series, and although it's obviously shorter than the main episodes, the experience remains the same. If you like Dishonored or stealth-based games, don't miss it.

Death of the Outsider is a mature and highly polished spin on the core Dishonored formula. It tries new things and mostly succeeds, and it's a must-play for fans of the franchise. While it's nice that it exists as a standalone title, it shouldn't be the first Dishonored game you play.

Although this is ultimately just more Dishonored, fans now have five more missions to play and some new powers to test out. Death of the Outsider’s existence as a stand-alone game is a curiosity. Though it may appear to be, Death of the Outsider is not a great entry point for new players. The story delivers payoffs on characters that you need to already be attached to and it doesn’t lay much groundwork for you to get attached to them. For fans of the series, it is a great exploration of Billie and Daud’s relationship. It’s also a fun way to let loose and play Dishonored the way “you’re not supposed.” Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is not a must-play, but it is a great addition to series and a satisfying ending to the Kaldwin-era.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, shows that if Dishonored is indeed coming to an end, it is a fitting tribute to its engaging world.

As a standalone story, Death of the Outsider is well worth the price of admission. Although it doesn’t innovate on the gameplay in any meaningful way, it’s as well-designed as anything in the series and fans will enjoy facing new challenges in the streets of Karnaca. We particularly enjoyed the scrappy underdog feeling of playing as Billie, with fewer powers than her protagonist predecessors.

Death of the Outsider has neither the out-of-this-world level design nor the masterful story writing of Dishonored 2, but it does not fail to impress as it offers a true Dishonored experience and a satisfying closure to the “Kaldwin Era”.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a good entry in the stealth franchise, but falls short compared to its predecessors due an uninspired level design. Nevertheless, it’s a great closure for the Jessamine Kaldwin saga and the retribution story of Corvo Attano that fans of the Dishonored series will learn to love.

This is Dishonered at its best: it has interesting stealth action and every level has multiple ways of how to deal with them. It is too bad the game offers too many moments where there are just a bunch of guards thrown at you, but other than that: great.

The predictable story and short running time are countered with varied gameplay and great level design. Definitely good enough to keep Dishonored fans happy.

As a whole, the entire package of Dishonored – Death of the Outsider is solid. You’re basically getting all the bells and whistles you would find in previous games in the series with more freedom and less restrictions to go take every living thing in your path out without prejudice. It’s one helluva last, if it is that, adventure to the series that is basically saying, Go have some fun, before waving goodbye on its lavish retirement plan. There’s certainly not a lot to dislike about this release, as it pretty much has everything you want. I guess the only knock I could find about the gameplay is that it is drawn back just a bit in comparison to Dishonored 2. I honestly wouldn’t expect it to be on the same level and scope as the second game in the series, but that’s the only knock I could give this game.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a fitting resolution to a familiar story. Billie Lurk is an excellent character to showcase the underside of a world already known but with plenty of mystery left in it.

If this truly is is the concluding chapter in the series, Dishonored exits with a fitting goodbye. Death of the Outsider takes a syringe to the magic formula, siphons up the good bits and leaves any and all excess behind.

As usual, each level offers multiple possibilities, but this time the lethal of pacifist approach does not change the world we live in.

From the gorgeous Key Art to the gameplay capable of being eye-catching, wistful and inventive, everything is in the right place.

A new chance to visit Karnaca and to infiltrate ourselves in its dark streets. A game full of shadows and the option of choosing action and fight as a final resource in case we are detected. Shorter than Dishonored 2 but also fun and deep.

Death of the Outsider successfully sees out one of its most intriguing lead characters and one of its most powerful villains in a worthwhile adventure. Across six or so hours, this standalone indulgence doesn’t add much truly new, instead relying on tweaks of its existing formula . But it delivers strong missions and an excuse to continue skulking around this fabulous and hugely atmospheric world.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is another great chapter in an extraordinary franchise. More interesting storywise but with a less inspired game design than its predecessors, the adventure of Billie Lurke is a convincing ending for the story arc that began with the murder of Jessamine Kaldwin and the vengeance of Corvo Attano.
