Elite Dangerous: Beyond - Chapter One Beta Announcement
Jul 5, 2017If you read up on the planets for fun, enjoy movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Interstellar, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, or Moon, or find the idea of hauling cargo from system to system and maybe getting in the odd fight along the way appealing, there is very little else out there like Elite Dangerous. I'm highly recommending it despite the tedium in its game play and the long periods of time you will spend just looking at stars/reading stuff on a screen. It is a beautiful, one of a kind experience that I cherish, one of my favourite games in the last few years, and the PlayStation 4 release is no exception.
Jul 20, 2017It isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you’re looking for instant action or a linear playing experience. That said, with a little patience, and a bit of imagination, Elite Dangerous is an extremely rewarding game that is worth experiencing.
CD-ActionSep 25, 2017If the PS4 edition is you first contact with Elite, you’re in for a treat, as you receive a game that has been evolving for almost 3 years (but hasn’t aged a bit!) along with Horizons expansion. [09/2017, p.30]
Jul 7, 2017Even after getting over any initial frustrations, the frequently vexing mechanics will test your patience time and time again, but despite these issues there’s a magic to Elite Dangerous that will keep you playing. Whether it’s a close encounter with a white dwarf, an intense dogfight, or a just cruising between star systems, the freedom and opportunity laid across its billions of stars means that Elite Dangerous offers spectacular space-tourism all from the comfort of your sofa.
Jul 7, 2017Thankfully, whether you’re soaking in the cosmos around you, banking large sums of credits from a well-planned trading haul, or surviving a harrowing encounter with space pirates in dazzling ship-to-ship combat, Elite Dangerous has plenty to keep me excited to come back.
Playstation Official Magazine UKAug 24, 2017This is evocative and immersive but will leave you cold - also like space. [Sept 2017, p.88]

Absolute freedom, huge galaxy, big variety of missions, realistic challenge and not just a pewpew space shooter, pvp and pve multiplayer. This game has it all. So far i haven't encounter any bugs (the game is already out on pc and xbox a long time now so it would be weird if it had bugs) and it runs smoothly on ps4 and ps4 pro alike. Only negative thing is the online only solo game cause i would like to be able to play solo at least offline. This is the space game I've been waiting for all my life. No Man's Sky was great but it was a survival game is space not a simulation. I'll be playing this for years to come. Hopefully they won't ever put down the servers or at least make the solo offline sometime in the future. Space sim lovers have to play this and everybody else who don't afraid of a challenge you should try it. Top notch!… Expand

It doesn't give you much - you have to learn it yourself and make the effort. You'll get out whatever you put in and there is no hand holding. Great to see Elite back. Yes I get why MMO games do have this visual downgrade due to online player base numbers. However Indie No Man's Sky just looks better with it's distinctive style. While old PC games like XR3 2005 and X3TC 2008 models and effects look better than this 2014 ED release.
I just find it hard to be impressed by space trader/dogfighting games anymore after playing so many. You can only do so much with this format for sure. The UI and controls no complaints. The overall presentation is very sleek and polished. The in game encyclopedia explains the mechanics, systems and game universe in digestible bites.
Looking for a slow paced long form game and never played a game of this format? I would say go for it for sure. This is as accessible as they come in this genre.… Expand

-Devs kinda neglect this game
-HUUUUUUGE grind in every gameplay aspect
-"mile wide inch deep" - huge galaxy, but there is very little ways to interact with it in a meaningful or fun way
-Personally, I don't like the combat, BF3 dogfighting was way more fun than this
Odyssey is on the horizon, but I doubt, this game will ever get into 8/10 territory.
fdev, please dont screw up the next Elite game in 20 years as much as you screwed up Elite Dangerous.

May 16, 2021I dont understand the positive reviews on this game or what kind of people pick this up and decide to throw away hours learning basic controlsI dont understand the positive reviews on this game or what kind of people pick this up and decide to throw away hours learning basic controls - not playing a game or having any fun - on an offchance they may like this. It's easier to get into an IVY league school than learn to play this overly complicated POS. The brief experience I had: UI is a nightmare and pukeworthy, travel is tedium, basic controls arent explained and/or are counterintuitive as fk. Its open world, great, but after getting through the overly brief and not-so-helpful tutorial, 20 minutes into a mission with no clue how to do anything, the only "fun" is just writing this review.
Proponents of this game will talk about an online flight manual or similar bs. However, I bought a game to play rather than sign up for a weekend reading project. Is it reasonable to ask a new player to invest hours learning controls and how to navigate the retarded navigation and cockpit mechanics before they know if they even want to play this flaming turd of a game? If a game needs a manual to get through a BEGINNER MISSION, there is an obvious design flaw imo. I'd rather watch bread mold in real-time than spend another minute on this POS.… Expand
