Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn tries in every way to satisfy players and fans of the charismatic antagonist, but puts fanservice before narrative coherence, trying in every way to present dramatic and exalting situations, creating new questions and debasing the existing content, especially of the movie Kingsglaive.

Square-Enix's fifteenth fantasy will end up condemned to darkness, as the protagonist of his latest DLC.

Episode Ardyn is fine, but it’s held back by repetitive gameplay that doesn’t really live up to Episode Ignis or Prompto. Unfortunately, the only thing really worth going in for here is the story and how it expands on FFXV universe lore.

You might have think that because Square Enix cancelled all the others planned DLC, Episode Ardyn ought to be the grand conclusion everyone expected. It is not.

XV will likely go down as one of the most divisive games in the series, and not in a 'it was more liked over time' sort of way: I'm fine with that.

I assume you hade played all the other XV related media or at least the base game, so the combat is still good or bad depending on your taste, the gameplay is more like an "arena" where you have almost only mini-boss battles and the final battles, which I prefer more from the semi-open world that the Episode Prompto proposed. The real meat of this DLC is its lore and story, if you have seen the Ardyn's anime, you have the backstory, but in here, you'll uncover what came after and why Ardyn was like he was in the main campaign.

The music started kind of edgy and ironic, but after a while, I really dug it, and I think that feeling goes for almost everything, aside from the ending which I really like but I can't say if it was lazy writing or intentional, so maybe that's up to you to decide.

This final episode doesn't feel as mandatory as Ignis's, but it sure doesn't feel as shallow as the other two, the thing is that it doesn't stand out much either, so only play it if you find it on sale or really want to expando XV's lore.

After some linear story segments we are given a small city "open world" to explore and destroy. There are pillars where you must break the barrier and destroy the Guardian boss within. There's about 8 or so of these bosses but there's only 2 or 3 types and some accompany other enemies. Speaking of enemies, the city is full of the royal guard so you will be killing (and quite easily too) human enemies here. The combat is impossibly easy even on Normal mode. The city itself is pretty 5 but incredibly devoid of life. There are skyscrapers and the occasional billboard, no day/night cycle to speak of and surely nothing as culturally diverse and dazzling as the Insomnia we saw in the Final Fantasy XV movie Kingsglaive. It's serviceable and it's nice to get the inside scoop on Ardyn but ultimately this DLC would only serve those wanting to get absolutely everything out of FFXV. For most fans it's missable. Expand

Yet another mindless adition to which is likely the most shallow FF ever made.
