Ganryu 2: Hakuma Kojiro is a game with instant playability and one that you can easily jump right into with smooth and addictive gameplay. There’s a sense of rewarding challenge and progression to the game that’ll make you want to keep revisiting over and over. No doubt this game is old-school tough, but the journey to mastering the levels and nailing that perfect rhythm and flow is what perfectly captures the unique magic of this timeless 2D gaming genre.

Ganryu 2 is incredibly difficult but it presents the ideal blend of challenge and satisfying action so you'll keep coming back after getting your ass kicked over and over again. With loads of secrets and a pitch-perfect presentation, this is one swanky old-school ninja game.

Fortunately, the controls are tight and slashing baddies feels great in that old school button-mashing kind of way. The level design is largely enjoyable as well, offering hidden paths, secrets, and a good amount of variety in both visuals and gameplay. Meanwhile, the boss battles are consistently intense and require some serious precision later on — a dangerous mix if you're already struggling with Ganryu 2's stiff challenge, but rewarding to overcome all the same.

Ganryu 2 succeeds in its goal to continue the legacy of the arcade, however, it’s dragged down by the shackles that come with it. Its failure to take inspiration from modern games means that it struggles to compete with contemporaries. The presentation is stunning and the levels are well designed, varying throughout. However, the stiff movement and lack of continues can make this a laborious experience.

Ganryu 2 takes the original arcade game and boosts every aspect of it and while that means you get some lovely visuals, great variation and slick gameplay it also comes with the kind of difficulty that was fine back in the '90s when coin-op manufacturers were only interested in taking your cash but seems needlessly harsh in 2022.

A small patch would shape the experience, but as it stands, the whole thing can be greatly improved.

It is a perfect mix of careful and speedy. Awesome and thoughtful. Deadly and beautiful. It is a proper modern sequel to old school classics like Shinobi. The gameplay is tight, fast, and powerful. You are the deadliest of warriors and you have a whole host of weapons and abilities at your disposal. This is not a game for you if you want to faceroll your controller and win. It is however for those that enjoy great level design and kick-ass combat. Expand

Good gameplay, and level design. The mechanics are well balanced.
Some design choises are awful, if you loose a life, your extra HP is gone for good.

The game have a ton of glitches, some can break your playtrhough, like loose one live in stage 4-1, forcing you quit the game, manually!

If they fix all this glitches and review this designs choices the game can be even a 8, for now 6 is good enough.
