Written by and starring the original cast of Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is simply the best video game based on a movie property ever created. With fun gameplay and bizarre events, this is the closest you’ll ever get to strapping on a real proton pack.

It’s not as if the original game was all that stunning or anything, but there are plenty of moments here where Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered just looks blurry and kind of ugly. That’s not enough to make me not recommend it, though. In fact, I’m almost certainly going to go out and buy myself a copy of the game on the Switch, just so I can have it with me at home and on the go. Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is likely only going to appeal to people who have some nostalgia for the movies — but if you have that nostalgia, it’s practically a must-play.

For better or worse, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is still the best example of proton slinging in the gaming medium. Terminal Velocity and co have preserved the unique mechanics of spectre combat and improved the in-game visuals to a suitable degree. However, the same can not be said for cutscenes, certain audio moments and the incredibly dated tropes. If you accept that this is a decade old title and fancy some time with Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston then there is still a lovable and endearing game to find underneath it all. Bustin’ still feels good, but your mileage will vary.

We were hoping to have something new in terms of contents. However it's the exact same game from 10 years ago with all of its pros and cons.

A rather weak remaster on the technical side, but to which it is impossible not to recognize a certain intrinsic cultural value, closely linked to his respectful love for the cinematographic saga.

The prospect of playing alongside the Ghostbusters in a story that serves as a proper sequel to the original films is exciting, but this adaptation only leaves us heartbroken. Initially a captivating experience, the magic fades fast, dispelled by poorly designed sections, bad AI, and a repetitive gameplay cycle. Thankfully, the series has since been revived with new and upcoming films, but it’s a shame that Ghostbusters: The Video game squanders a golden opportunity to become something truly special in this medium.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered offers endless joy to the fans of the Ghostbusters movie franchise, but maybe not to others. If you never watched the movies before, you probably shouldn’t buy this game either.

It's basically a love letterLoved the original back in 2009 and now loving the remasterd version in 2019. The best game of a film ever made. It's basically a love letter to Ghostbusters fans and you can tell it was made with such passion, care and attention. It even has the original Ghostbusters cast doing the voice work and they also helped write the script for it. It's basically the 3rd Ghostbusters film we never got. If you love Ghostbusters you will love this game to bits. Even if you have no idea what Ghostbusters is this is still a great game with a lot of fun to be had. In regards to how different the remaster is to the original. I played the original on the Xbox 360. That was 720p. I'm playing the remaster on the PS4 PRO and as far as i can tell it is 4K (Don't hold me to that though) but it does look much more crisp and clean compared to the original. It also runs much better, much smoother. I paid just £19.99 for a brand new physical copy of this and i'm really happy with my purchase. Hopefully we get a full on proper next gen sequel to this in the near future as this game proves that Ghostbusters games can be done right and be great fun and there is more than enough room for a good sequel. Intsead of pumping out rubbish versions like the quick cash grab 2016 versions. I also recommended watching the Ghostbusters film before playing this as the game visists and features places, people and ghosts from in the film. It will get you even more hyped up to play it. Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a rare gem. Where countless movie tie-in games have failed miserably, Ghostbusters not only perfectly captures the essence of the source material, but acts as a legitiment third sequel to the original two films. The story was written by the same minds that crafted the OG scripts, and it shows. Somehow, the entire cast even agreed to reprise their roles, which automatically injects chemistry between all the characters. If I could use one word to describe this game, it would be "authentic".

As for the gameplay, there's actually a lot more depth than a game like this has any business with. The game is linear, but not a hallway, so don't expect a particularly long experience. Think 8-10 hours. Throughout the game, the Firestation acts as the main hub for the GB team, and there is a ton of banter between characters, as well as nods to the franchise. You investigate hauntings and earn money while the overarching narrative unfolds. The action admittedly plays like a run-of-the-mill third-person shooter, just with a Ghostbusters' skin. The devs could've just skeeted by with a barebones experience, only arming players with the standard "laser lasso" proton pack, but they instead opted to offer a wide variety of weapons and upgrades. These primarily consist of various projectiles and explosives, as well as the slime guns from GB2. This makes for an incredibly flashy and varied experience, as you go up against hordes of the undead. The action here also goes far beyond anything seen in the original films, and part of me is grateful we got a Ghostbusters sequel in the form of a game. Dan Ackroyd knew what the audience wanted, so he used modern technology to bypass the effects of time, transporting us back to the 1990s.

The only real gripes I have with GB:TVG are the lack of visual improvements over the game's original release, and the fact that you play as an unnamed fifth Ghostbuster. I'm all for new characters, but this isn't the type of game that should have a silent protagonist. There isn't even a character creator! Oh, and your AI party members can be very dumb at times, forcing you to play "medic" often. The good news is, your companions will quite literally die on the hill to revive you. Now, these are still minor gripes in an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable (although a little dated) experience.

Dan Ackoyd always wanted to make another sequel to Ghostbusters 2, and he got his wish. In many ways, this is better than any movie we could've gotten. The amount of content and lore GB:TVG contains is astounding, and it feels like the epic finale to the classic Ghostbusters era.

If you are a Ghostbusters fan who never bought the original, this is the definitive version. it's a 10. BUY IT NOW! The best Ghostbusters gameIf you are a Ghostbusters fan who never bought the original, this is the definitive version. it's a 10. BUY IT NOW! The best Ghostbusters game ever. Which isn't saying much because the runners up are Ghostbusters 2 NES Pal version which was like a less fun Zombies ate my Neighbors, a Doom2 WAD, and a Pokemon go knockoff. Are you a non-fan who wants a 3rd person shooter with a fun lasso gimmick? meh 5/10.

Did you buy it before? It's literally the exact same game with almost no noticeable increase in resolution. Also no Multiplayer (yet?). Seriously, co-op and multi should have been the bare minimum addition. If they add that and maybe a new map on it I'll jack up my score by 2 points. It's only been 10 years. A little early for a remaster. Not much differences in tech to take advantage of.

I still love it though. Gonna 100% all the trophies just like last time. If you are a fan and you bought it once, only a superfan would buy it again. In which case add me when multiplayer comes out Thedarknerd69 on PSN. If you didn't buy it before? Buy it now! If you are a passing fan or a normie? Pass.
