I am a Monster Hunter veteran of over 1,000 hours combined playtime across 3 generations. Needless to say, I know the standard of excellence. And God Eater is the only game I've ever played that can compete with MH on a respectable level. And it has a lot going for it that MH doesn't have like the gorgeous anime graphics and storyline. The aragami aren't as appealing as the nature-like fantasy monsters found in the almighty MH, and the gameplah definitely isn't as sharp or polished, but gosh dang if this game isn't fun all the same. And as a long term Monster Hunter, I firmly stand by God Eater with my seal of approval. Expand

Being a huge fan of the 3D anime-esque art style presented here, I thought I could get into this game to tide me over during my monster hunter droughts. Unfortunately, this game didn't satisfy. Being a fan of the Toukiden series, I found myself at a loss as to why I couldn't get immersed into this world and get my hunting fix. But the answer I was left with was simple, the mechanics of GE2: RB fall short in the depth department, so it doesn't satisfy my monster hunter desires; Also it doesn't play to it's hack and slash button mashing style like Toukiden does in order to make the simple combat compelling.

What's left is a game that wants to be more deep and nuanced than it actually is. It wants to be as deep as a more refined hunting experience but it ultimately can't deliver. It complicates the games crafting systems to the point of being obtuse so it doesn't capitalize on the fun, simple action that makes the Toukiden series memorable. It tries to find some place between these two extremes, but balancing the demands of doing so seems beyond the experience of the team that developed this. I want this series to improve since I love the hunting boss rush genre of games, hopefully the next GE title can get its feet under it and create a solid foundation worth building on.

The good news is that this second installment is better in almost every way than the first one (Resurrection). The bad news is that the improvements are so small that you might not notice.

I'll start out with the worst aspect. This is a very grindy game. It took me 60 hours to complete the game (up to difficulty 15). You'll spend most of your time fighting the same monsters in the same arenas over and over and over. The story progresses slowly after every 2-3 missions. This should have been a 20-hour game.

As for the story, it's generic and might be exciting to a 12-year-old. It's got the stereotypical bad guy trying to take over the world/kill everyone and your team fights back and wins (with a bit of power-of-friendship thrown in). But at least it doesn't get in the way of the gameplay. You can safely skip most story bits without missing much.

The story and gameplay are also very detached. For example: in a cutscene, you'll be asked to escort someone or protect something in the next mission. The next mission starts and it's just like all other missions: kill the monsters. When the mission is over, you then see another cutscene with your characters taking the actions that were planned in the previous cutscene. So it felt like I wasn't actually participating in the game. I was just watching the characters progress in the story while I grinded monsters on the side.

The characters are better this time around. Compared to the first game, they give a better impression that they're actually struggling in this world and belong in it. There's optional character-based missions that you can go on, which expands each of the character's stories. It's too bad that the character missions aren't any different than all of the other game's missions: The main thing you get out of these are more cutscenes.

I won't get into combat too much other than to say it's sub-par. I ended up finding the most effective attack and just spammed that throughout most of the game, in an attempt to bypass the large amount of mission-grinding. Like I said in my review of the previous game, Tera (a free MMORPG) has much better large-monster combat than this game.

Graphics and character models are Vita-level. Like the first game, there's a wide range in outfit quality. Some aren't very well modeled, while others are good. If you're in this for girls in short skirts, be prepared to be disappointed as half of those short skirts make your character have a lego-shaped rear-end. And while the costume customization options for your character are plentiful, there's not many options for the other characters (some characters have only one outfit).

The upgrade system is horrible. The actual upgrade process isn't bad, but finding the item that you need to upgrade equipment is incredibly tedious. If I need an item to upgrade something, I'd first look through the craftable materials section, with over 1000 items and scroll through it until I find the item. There's no alphabetization option in this list. If I can't craft the item, I then look through missions separately and scroll through their 30+ item lists (also un-alphabetized) until I find the particular mission that has the item I want.

So you might like this game if you can stand the grind, like upgrading weapons and armor to kill stronger (but identical) monsters, and like girls fighting in short skirts (although poorly-modeled). It also helps if you're younger or don't have much experience with games - in which case you might better enjoy the story.

Nintendo fans, out of salt, have decided to bash this game. I have seen the Nintendo community encouraging members to give this game a bad review without even knowing a thing about this series. Truly pathetic and a disservice to the hard work that has gone into this game. The following top reasons:

    1) It wasn't released on any of their consoles.

    2) It is superior to any of the Monster Hunter titles thus far.

    3) is has been far more creative and original than anything MH, and while it doesn't have maybe the depth that MH has, there is plenty to keep users busy and formulate thousands of builds and setups.

Look, I love any game under the monster-hunting genre, and as someone who has played pretty much everything out there, I can say this game is solid and easily 8+/10.

Fantastic soundtrack too and beautiful cinematic anime scenes.

Buy it, and don't listen to the man children fanbase Nintendo has.

While I liked the gameplay and battles it was a bit to easy especially earlier on. For clarification: I consider myself as average gamer. Also Toukiden is far superior in regard to this game. The God Eater franchise games are action adventures like Monster Hunter or Toukiden. You fight monsters here called Aragami and develop your character with equipment. You get items to forge better gear, improve your gear or add abilities aka improvements to it. The battles are separated into missions and you have a teammates that you can chose and also improve. There is more but this is just a set up. The story is set in an apocalyptic future. Mankind is heavily decimated as the Aragami have overrun the world. Those are nearly unbeatable by normal means. Only those gifted to wield God Arcs weapon can defeat the Aragami. Your main character that you can freely create passes the compatibility test and is introduced as newest member of the “Blood” unit an elite team. Here I stop to avoid spoilers. The story is not bad but I found it underwhelming. I foresaw even a few twists. It never grabbed me that much. The characters however are far better and I liked them. Presentation wise you see that it is an enhanced Vita game. I wont criticize this as it seems unfair. They did what they could and the graphics are not bad. The soundtrack is likable for me. Overall this was a small disappointment. The game could not grab me that much. I would recommend Toukiden Kiwami or Toukiden instead. Expand

It definitely doesn't belong on a 60$ game for the ps4, the graphics on this game cannot be compared to soul sacrifice and toukiden.

I am a veteran to this franchise, I've been in with it since Gods Eater Burst, then God Eater Resurrection, and now this. Is this game on par with the legacy God Eater has built for itself? Is it good for beginners? I hope to answer all that in this objective look at the game... Free of the hate I've seen from other user reviews.

This game is beginner friendly.. at first:
You are put through a mandatory tutorial, no problem it teaches enough and the early missions are simple enough, until your first Psion, new monsters introduced in this game. This psion fights like a late game God Eater Burst monster and will destroy you if you come unprepared or are cocky, it summons more monsters on top of itself and they are all ungodly aggressive, a rite of passage maybe but that is NOT how you introduce new players.

    The Story:
It starts too slow for my liking but once you get past the initial parts the story goes into full steam and the characters you'll initially despise will become your friends in battle, I can commend a story in a Monster Hunter clone for actually you know... being a damn story.

    The Soundtrack:
Oh yes in true fashion the soundtrack makes you want to slay Gods... but.
It's loud and drowns the voice acting (which I'll complain about in a bit), and the audio mixer needs to be slapped and then fired for how poor a job this is. It's Sonic Adventure 2 levels of "WHAT??" at times but I digress. The music will have you definitely in the mood to kill monsters and it can match the beasts you'll be slaying quite nicely.

    The Voice Acting:
Oh God, it's all over the damn place, some characters are fine while others are "SHUT THE HELL UP ROMEO!!". Probably the lowest part of the game, also they mysteriously took out the voices for Operators which can utterly screw you if you can't read and fight so be wary of that.

    The gameplay:
No slowdown, satisfying feedback, and a bevy of weapons will keep you eating gods far longer than you would expect. The new Blood Arts are awesome and can turn battles on their head entirely, not an exaggeration.

    Conclusion:
This game is worthy to the name of God Eater despite it's flaws, I found the opening tutorials to be a little frustrating but I'm a veteran and not much has changed control wise. The game runs great and has a lot to offer, it's certainly not a bad game that's for sure, just a slow starting one. If you need a little bit of high energy anime monster killing in your life, and you have a PS4 and not a 3DS, pick this up, it'll be well worth your time.

You cant ask for a worst game, literally, its just impossible to do worst than this, congrats on that.
Now ill explain my point, and a bit for those who dont know the whole story.

Note: GE Burst is the original God Eater, released in 2010 to PSP, wich had a remake to pc version later, named GE Ressurection, these games are the same basicly.

GE Burst story: Your a cadet of a new generation of god eaters, your compatible with your gun and join the god eater force, met a really clumsy mate, a guy (named kota), the game beggins, and later a russian girl (named alisa) that was transfered to your facility, this new girl is really rude, the game continues.
5 years later(2015), they released GER (God Eater Ressurection), the remake and GE2RB (God Eater 2 Rage Burst) the second game.
GE2RB story: This game happens to be 3 years after the first one (in the story), your a cadet of a new generation of fighters, compatible so you join god eaters, ok, then you met a really clumsy mate, a girl, and later, a really rude scotish guy (Gilbert) is transfered to your facility, in his first day, he punches a guy for no reason, the game continues.

Pros: Your HQ has a new design, the model graphics are slightly better, but only character model.
Cons: This 2nd game takes place in the same facilitie of the last one, but your hq has even less rooms than in GEB, they swapped the chararcters gender (the rude is a guy and the chill is a girl now), the maps you fight are also the same, the game is still bugged AF, the background story is the same (coincidence), maps size compared to characters is still bad.
You know, in 2010 graphics were not the best, there was no technology for that, but 5 years later, with a psp original and a remake of the original game sold, they came up with even worst cut scenes, by far, in graphical terms, now its not even a cut scene, you have to press to see their next message, its a really disgusting format, i cant stand it.

Conclusion: Again the same game, same story, same characters, but a little different from the outside, and different names, this game is basicly another remake, and that makes me sad, bcs i was expecting another game, not more of the same ive been playing for years
I really love God Eater burst, its my game for life, and im truly disapointed with this **** they sold. "its not an iphone, its an iphone+".
Just play the first game pls, dont try this one, its my advice.
