I enjoyed Hatoful Boyfriend Holiday Star as a fan of the original. It was great getting more back story for several characters that were underdone in the original, as well as meeting new characters all in the holiday mood.
If you are new to this franchise, you'd better run away fast or play the first one first. But for the fans of Hatoful Boyfriend this is a nice addition to the original. It might be hard to understand, cause the translations are not top notch.

It's mainly fan service for those who loved the original game.
Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star isn't a lump of coal by any means. Rather, it feels more like unwrapping a present and getting socks.
Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star is a click your way through several absurd, linear stories about pigeons.
While technically sound and well put-together, it’s little more than a digital comic that doesn’t capture the replay value and engaging emotional tale of the first.
Summary The birds of Hatoful Boyfriend are back in the remastered holiday-themed sequel Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star. Travel to out-there worlds, meet interesting new chickadees, and find romance in the elegantly designed winter wonderlands.
