"Horizon Zero Dawn is a perfect proof, that if you give developers creative freedom and time, it will get you a sweet reward. For fans of action adventures and wonderful worlds Horizon is the obvious choice. [Issue#272]"

"Horizon Zero Dawn is Guerrilla Games’ best effort, one of the PS4’s greatest games, and the best game ever crafted from the ground up for the platform. It combines a gripping narrative with intense action that blends both fast-paced combat with slower-paced, tense stealth sections perfectly. Everything about their vision for this game clicks into place and is accentuated by a stellar presentation. The game features top-shelf graphical work, a unique and enjoyable soundtrack, alongside a fantastic cast to make an unforgettable experience." ... Read full review

"Horizon Zero Dawn thrums with the energy of a creative team finally allowed to explore something new. It builds on elements of open-world and loot-and-craft gameplay that we've seen before, but it does so within a context, a setting and a style that feel fresh. Horizon Zero Dawn discovers a stronger sense of its own personality in one game than Killzone ever managed across half a dozen. Guerrilla Games has long been developing some of the most buzzed-about games in the industry; with Horizon, it feels like it has finally found its own voice, one worthy of all that buzz." ... "This is a culmination of everything Guerrilla has learned from working on the Killzone franchise and they've successfully crafted something that delivers on the potential many saw back in 2015. Horizon Zero Dawn is not only one of the best-looking games of this generation, but a must own for every PlayStation 4 owner." ... Read full review

"A perfect example of strong, competent and enjoyable gameplay. It doesn't reinvent the genre, but it's a lot of fun to play. The mecha-dino combat is the highlight and represents some of the most enjoyable open-world combat on the market. Burning through powerful foes and looting their corpses for rare treasures captures an excitement rarely felt in open-world games. The rest of the gameplay is somewhat dulled in comparison. A somewhat weak plot drags down the experience but isn't enough to detract from the enjoyment." ... Read full review

"Horizon Zero Dawn is disappointing. It has a story that I struggled to care about (complete with massive expository dumps—yay), a bland protagonist, and overtly repetitive and constraining missions that worked against its open world sensibilities. When Horizon Zero Dawn hit its rare strides—from its gloomy Cauldrons to traveling across its sprawling vistas—it only made me wish the rest of the game were as worthwhile." ... Read full review

Just finished the game, all sidequests and all collectibles.
Well, what should i say ...

- the most visually impressive game for me up to date
- incredible and emotional touching story
- good and interesting characters
- fresh and original

One bad thing though: It killed Zelda Breath of the Wild for me due to one simple reason: i guess i grew out of some stereotypic fantasy-stuff without something special about it.

A fantastic adventure.

Good

- I like alloy's personality. She doesn't take s*** from anyone, but yet she has sympathy and is reasonable to those who deserve it. She's also very strong and does not rely on others.

- the game touches on the controversial topic of AI singularity. The way they told the story made it such a mystery, and it's really cool how there's this whole new primitive civilization that came out of this apocalypse. And the whole time it made me constantly Wonder what this project zero Dawn was.

- it's very interesting listening to all the audio recordings of people in the past, especially the people who worked on zero dawn. And how each one of them came to either accept or decline their fate.

- the thought of machines duplicating endlessly consuming biomatter is scary. And how after they've consumed all biomatter, there would be just millions of robots hibernating on the surface of the planet waiting for any new biomatter to appear. Like some kind of grim silent death trap for any alien.

- I feel like a tomb Raider of sorts, because I'm reading pretty much tombs of life before the robot apocalypse. Except the theme is a little reversed, because alloy is a primitive person rating the tomb of a more advanced civilization.

- the constant back and forth gameplay in the main quest between the present day affairs in the primitive land, and the contrasting tomb rating of the advanced past gives diversity to the gameplay. It's like two parallel storylines, which tv shows use too.

- that part when sylens rescued alloy was epic

- seeing alloy rise from being an outcast, nobody, to literally a holy figure as she was walking out of all mother was a very surreal moment even from the point of view of the player. I really like how alloy doesn't care for authority and the law if it does not make sense, even from the matriarchs.

- many of the side missions are well connected to the two main story lines. Both the primitive civilization and the robot apocolypse past. The game introduces you to characters in the beginning that Branch out into side quests later on in the game. This fundamental introduction to these characters allows me to make a connection with them, and for me to actually care about the quests that they put me on later. Not many games are able to make me care about side missions like Horizon zero Dawn can.

- using the rope caster and tieing down robots then hitting their armor parts off or using critical hits on them feels very satisfying.

- knowing the sacrifice that Elisabet made was just heart wrenching.

- there's a good balance between using melee, projectiles, and traps in combat.

Bad

- The ledges can be highlighted more vividly. Because they aren't, there are many times where I am not sure where I can be climbing until I started randomly jumping.

- some of the NPC facial animations when they're talking doesn't match the expressive voice acting. The facial movements of each character just aren't all that big.

- there are a lot of ways to exploit the combat using the environment. Like staying in a spot where the boss can't reach you. Most games would restrict the area you can go but Horizon zero Dawn allows you to pretty much go anywhere in a large area during the fight.

- the final chapter ended too fast. I was really hoping the final battle was gonna be more epic. It was alright. It just happened really fast, and there weren't any new machines, just a big deathbringer and other minions. Given the amazing story this far, I also expected a twist to happen, but the ending was very predictable. Still good, but I was hoping for something more spicy.

I was constantly thirsting for more understanding of the story as I played. The world and lore of this game is as much of a mystery for you the player, as it is for the protagonist Aloy. The emotions she feels as she discovers new secrets were certainly replicated by mine. Horizon features an intricate combat system that allows the player to decide how they play; stealth or active combat. I found myself changing the way I fight depending on the machines and the weapons of choice. I applaud the amount of effort that was put into the datalogs to explain the world for those who wished to have a deeper understanding. Many hours could be spent reading and listening to the datalogs. I enjoyed the side missions and spent most of my time in the game doing them. With Cauldrons, bandit camps, various collectibles, corrupted zones and tallnecks, Horizon did not feel boring even when I wasn't doing the main story. The music of the game was suitable for the kind of world that Horizon takes place in, I was humming to Aloy's theme all day after finishing the game. One the game's biggest strength was it's visuals. Playing it on a PS4 Pro and a 4K TV, I would often stop just to admire how magnificent the game looked and as a result I made the most of the photo mode. Horizon's biggest drawback is it's secondary characters. While Aloy has become one of my favourite female protagonist in videogame history, the same cannot be said for the other characters in the game. They lacked emotions and depth and by the end when some characters were portrayed as important, I was surprised as I felt no connections whatsoever with them. Overall Horizon Zero Dawn is an excellent game and one of the best PlayStation exclusives of this generation and I cannot wait for the sequel. Expand

This game is pretty solid. My main concern about this title was being a boring and repetitive game that will just lead to a path were you onlyThis game is pretty solid. My main concern about this title was being a boring and repetitive game that will just lead to a path were you only do side quest, hunt and repeat. Far from this, Horizon Zero Dawn is a very polished game, with deep personality, one of the best OST out of there and technically almost perfect.

The combat system is pretty good, you can fit the different options to your playstyle: rush enemies, stealth killing, avoid them..

The graphics are astounding, one of the best graphics I've ever seen in a game. Guerrilla did a very good work with the hardware PS4 provides.

The downsides for me are clear: Voice acting. Sometimes they lack expression and charisma.
