The cartoon-style graphics and characters are charming, the fast-paced action and fluid combat exciting, and the ability to customize your weapons to such an extent is fantastic and sets it apart from other shooters.

Loadout isn’t some new breed of free-to-play, but it does a very entertaining job of balancing what you can play with when you can pay. Being a low level isn’t painfully boring, and gaining experience or good weapons doesn’t require real money.

On one side, the free to play mechanics ultimately get into the inevitable grinding, which could bother some. On the other hand, gameplay can be loads of fun, and the irony is sincere.

I had some fun free-to-play battles with Loadout, but far more time was spent mired in frustration or feeling under-fulfilled with a purchased campaign victory; it's not quite "pay to win," but it definitely is "pay to win with a lot less hassle."

Loadout isn’t a bad game; there just isn’t much to it. If you’re worried about how a PC game translates to the PS4 controller, you’ll be happy to hear there are minimal issues. The control isn’t perfect, though, and despite the better part distribution system, there isn’t much to talk about aside from weapon crafting.

New shooters need to be special to stand out in an arena of bigger brands, and Loadout doesn't quite have the quality required to back up its ideas.

The weapon-crafting is great but given the manipulative microtransactions this free-to-play shooter is not worth your time, let alone your money.

After I had actually sat down and played this for a few hours, my next step was to uninstall COD: Advanced Warfare.

The imagination, humor, and blistering gameplay this thing offers.....on top of the customization, which is addictive as hell, shows how lazy the standard FPS developers have become. And you can pay as little or as much as you want (the only thing REQUIRING actual $ are the cosmetic outfits...and you can still win the odd bit of that kit).

Multiple game modes with their own twist. Bots that can fill in for the missing / AFK player that actually compete and the simple fun factor make this a must. AND its free.

It might beIf you like Borderlands, TF2, Popeye cartoons, and can tolerate some crude humor, then Loadout is definitely worth a download. It might be F2P, but you can still get good weapons with in-game currency (blutes). Some of the items can only be bought with Spacebux, hence real cash, but these are mainly cosmetic or humorous items. Most useful items (including XP boosts) can also be bought with blutes, which are easy to earn. You don't earn many Spacebux, but you can get enough through challenges to buy some items. The fusion feature of the inventory allows you to increase the rarity of weapon parts and other equipment while simultaneously making use of out leveled items instead of having to discard them.

My main criticism would be that the challenges needed to acquire Spacebux and additional loot crates are poorly assigned to the appropriate match scenario. In order to check off an accomplishment and claim the prize, you need to complete the stated goal and your team has to win the match - doing both is sometimes impossible depending on the match scenario. If your goal is to get three head shots, this is nearly impossible if everyone is running all over the place just trying to kill each other instead of focusing on attacking a fixed target. There are also some matches where you have to claim dropped "blutonium" from slain enemies but two of the four opposing team members are of a type that doesn't drop blutonium while all four of your team members do. Because you can't choose the match type for the challenges (the arena matches allow voting), sometimes you just have to keep quitting the match and restarting until it gives you a workable scenario.

There is also an annoying glitch that sometimes leads to your AI teammates getting stuck at the spawn point. This is, of course, terrible when you realize that you're trying to take on an already numerically superior enemy (e.g. 10 enemy AI characters against your team of 4) all by yourself. Thankfully, this is rare and generally seems to happen only when more than one of your teammates dies at about the same time and they both/all try to spawn simultaneously.

I'm giving it a slightly higher score because the experience only costs you as much as you're willing to pay. Some of the taunts are crude, but others are hilarious - like some of the pop culture dances that take you back to your youth. I'm at level 15 (out of 20) and I've earned 2250 Spacebux but haven't used any yet. I'll probably cough up $4.99 for Spacebux once I've reached the end and it will still feel like I'm stealing the game. Considering there are terrible digital only games that go for $20 (or more) this is truly a bargain. So give it a try and if you enjoy it as much as me, show the devs some love.

It's currently free on PS4 (although there are in game purchases that can boost your character) so if you like this type of thing it might be worth a go but I can't imagine many people sticking with it all that long.
