Mayhem Brawler is way, way better than it has any right to be. It looks good, plays nicely and only really suffers by comparison to its bigger brothers such as Fight'N Rage and Double Dragon Neon. The animation is lacking compared to these titles, but it's still perfectly acceptable, and the slightly generic environments are too busy to really pay much attention to. With a world this interesting, we'd love to see another game take place in Mayhem Brawler's universe.
Mayhem Brawler is hands down the most fun I’ve had with a beat-’em-up since Streets of Rage 4. With its gorgeous graphics, satisfying combat, and plenty of replayability, it’s a slugfest that will keep you coming back for more. While the game probably would have benefited from a more engaging combo system, it makes up for this with a great selection of weapons and a colorful cast of playable characters. If you’ve finished Streets of Rage 4’s Mr. X Nightmare DLC and are looking for a new way to get your beat-’em-up fix, look no further. Mayhem Brawler will punch you in your face, and you’ll like it.
"My associated PC Review"
I've been playing beat 'em ups for years. Mayhem Brawler is the game that puts a lot of freshness for the genre, with branching paths, different endings, and a whole new urban-fantasy setting that includes a ton of rogues gallery. Especially after the Air Supremacy update, with fun new mechanics, crazy combos, and new game modes, the devs obviously care about the game they've created and its fanbase. A game that lovers of the genre should NOT miss!
Recommended: fans of beatups and good games. Especially if you have not much time for long play games.
Not recommend: if you hate beatmups or cartoon style.
With the last updates (april 2022 we have 2.1) this is one of the best brawlers ever. Yes. The gameplay (for example, I love that you can easy defend and fight back), the narrative, the cartoon, the music, the state icons. Yes, really one of the best brawlers I have ever played.
This is not an attack againts other fantastic games, as SoR4 which I´m really love. But is a different gameplay. You have also loooooooog combos (and MB has a time easy-to-see reference to know when you win the points), special moves (with its own energy bar and "food" to refil it), runs, defends... Now, its difficult to me come back to another "beats" games style. Really love its gameplay.
PROS: With more "O", Looooooooooooooooooooooooong combos and GREAT, REALLY GREAT playability, cartoon style, funny story, epic music and characters, wonderfull ideas (as narrative style and state icons).
CONS: I have no complaints with this game. Well, maybe for the future: an arena or waves mode it could be a really interesting addon. The animation is really good, but nos SoR 4... Bah, It's hard and innecesary to look for a complaint when you have a so good game.
CONCLUSION: AMICI-RECOMMENDED. Hope to see expansions or sequels with more content. Love so much this game. And you know, in Switch, you can play everywhere...
Mayhem Brawler is a fun and hectic beat'em up that features a comic
book-type art style, different endings, and a fun world to explore. Its
plot might seem strange but it goes beyond what's common in the genre,
and the three available characters will provide plenty of opportunities
for the player to interact with. Pity its lack of online multiplayer and
some enemies, namely bosses, with life bars that get a exaggeratedly
long.
Mayhem Brawler is an old-school beat'em up that doesn't particularly stand out on Nintendo Switch. It lacks some depth but its controls are solid and fun. It also offers 3 endings, thanks to the fact that we can choose different paths in each decision.
When I originally saw the art for this game I’ll have to admit I was a bit put off by its blatant similarities to the recent (and outright excellent) Streets of Rage 4, fearing this would feel like a derivative sort of cut and paste job. I’m happy to say that though it has much in common with that recent remake (though its general depth in the moves department is a fair distance behind), that isn’t to say that it doesn’t take some pains to set itself apart. You’ll choose one of 3 characters to start with, each of them playing pretty differently with a more agile fighter, a brawler, and someone pretty well smack dab in the middle to round it out. Your objective, in general terms, is just to steamroll your way through the underworld, beating down anyone in your way, searching for answers to what’s going down in your city. I will credit the developers with the smart move of setting up decisions at the end of most chapters which give you choices on how to proceed. At a minimum the fact that this gives you an excellent reason to return for multiple runs to see how things work out differently when you make alternative options is a smart move. Status conditions and some great unexpected villain types also raise the game above the likes of the established norm to throw in some unexpected challenges in places, requiring a bit more nuance in your fighting. It may not quite have reliable mainstream appeal, but for genre fans it’s definitely worthy of a look.

I have to admit that yes it is a typical beatemup there is only so much you can do with that formula but this is definently an exciting game and a good experience that I will keep coming back to. I highly recommend especially if you are a fan of beatemups
SummaryMayhem Brawler is an urban fantasy themed beat 'em up that brings back the 90s arcade vibe to present day. With comic book style art and kick-ass soundtracks, it offers a unique experience that you can tackle solo or as co-op with friends while defining the next step in the story with your choices.
