Moving to real consoles has paid off for Monster Hunter. The fifth installment is bigger, nicer and funnier (a bit). In addition, a number of free addons will extend the entertainment for another dozens of hours. [Issue#283]

This is the most audacious Monster Hunter game yet. Monster Hunter: World manages the balance between staying true to the series’ ideals and the addictive loop of combat with intimidating monsters and meaningful upgrades that fans love, while also taking a dramatic leap into a look, feel, and size that feels truly new. Its sheer depth and the commitment required is still intense, but it clearly isn’t Capcom's aim to court a casual crowd. It’s as all-consuming and incredible a ride as ever.

I can't recommend Monster Hunter: World enough to anyone who's after possible GOTY games. It's not just the best Monster Hunter game to date, I'm pretty sure it's one of the best titles of the year, and that's a big achievement for CAPCOM and this particular franchise mostly known in Japan.

Monster Hunter finally arrives on the new generation consoles. Its soul is intact: it is always divided in two main sectors, the preparation and the hunt, and it’s fun as ever. The hunts are long and secondary quests or activities, like collecting the pieces to craft armors and weapons, could take months. The monsters are now moved by the most complex and smooth animations we've ever seen in a videogame, but maps are not so big and interactive. Monster Hunter: World is a big step up for the series, not for the current videogames scenario.

Monster Hunter: World scratches the itch for complexity, both in hunt for rare gear and skill with its weapons, but this time it’s a game that no one should be intimidated to get into.
  6. Monster Hunter World is going to be one of the best RPGs of 2018. It has enormous amount of content and can keep players in the game for hundreds of hours.

I won't rehash the problems I had with World simply because they make me profoundly sad. I wanted to like the game, I hoped the new direction would bring the series to a new level, but instead, the whole thing blew up in my face like a Marshmallow Peep left in the microwave too long.

Perfect for what it set out to do.

In a way its a reintroduction of Monster Hunter to the world. Gripes that it catered to newbies is warranted but it was designed that way. The game stopped being niche just for being niche sake. It doenst care if its too mainstream now and less of hardcore. Capcom got something in mind for those who seek new challenge, Iceborne.

    Great gameplay loop
    No pay to win microtransactions.
Matchmaking made easy. No long waits for a session. Just drop in killed some mons and go.
14 unique weapons with different playstyles and buids for each. With each weapon can itself be the gameplay mechanic of other games.
Largely skill based and knowing the movesets of movements. No OP builds. Its just plain knowing how to deal with your hunts.

The monsters, the hunts, the loots, the weapons, I was having so much fun, the years after, I also bought mh3u, mh4u, mhgen and also mho, easily thousands of hours spent. Freakin excited when mhw was first announce, I think most vets would definitely love this new installment, gameplay have been made it easier, more convenient from gathering resources to slaying monsters, really love it! I have both physical and digital copy, that should explain something right? Gotta get back to the game now! Expand

I've came from a few similar RPGs, mostly also played on PS4: Horizon Zero Dawn, Dark Souls, Final Fantasy XV. Despite some similarities, MHW is a unique game. It's a huge RPG full of details, plenty of missions. I started playing with a Katana, and even gave up on the game after meeting the Anjanatah. After a few months, watching other players playing with a light bow gun, I remembered how fun it was playing in distance with HZD. I tried with light bowgun and it worked for me pretty well (of course after some reading and tips on this gun). After 45h I finished the game and the elder dragons. The Elder Dragons were by far the best bosses/monsters in the game, incredible monster design and amazing fight and blasts! The multiplayer also gets interesting when fighting huge monsters like them. I give it an 8.8/10 and I'll certainly play the Iceborne expansion. Expand

First Monster Hunter game I really played in the series, others never really took off for me. MHW is by far the most first-timer friendly gameFirst Monster Hunter game I really played in the series, others never really took off for me. MHW is by far the most first-timer friendly game in the series. I've beaten the game now at about 70ish hour mark, haven't really been rushing though, took quite a few optional sidequests etc.

Enjoyed the pace of low rank. High rank was grindier but ok. After that the game is basically garbage. It is a combination of small things that make later gameplay a chore.

The controls are supper unresponsive, it feels like there is absolutely no input buffering whatsoever. Sometimes input gets ignored completely.

Everything is so drawn out, even outside of a fight. I mean do I really need to wait 10 seconds for that steak eating animation to play, or when drinking a potion to buff my attack?

Do I have to press X 3-5 times every time I go to pick up quest, hand in bounties, get my stuff from the botanist?

The game never bothers to tell the player that radial menu and sort order of the item bar are part of the load out, go figure why every time a loadout is selected everything gets resorted.

Story is meh, characters are forgettable and often annoying.

As a long term Dark Souls and Co. player, I have my own criteria for what makes a good boss. And one hit kills + RNG is a big no no. A player should be loosing because they consistently make mistakes, not because RNG consistently screws them over.

Big monster fights and turf wars, are very nice, but get really old really fast when they happen like every two minutes. Betelgeuse here is the worst offender.

The monster roar is used way too often. I mean can we fight already instead of being stunned half the time?

Uninspired achievements: hunt 100 of that, capture 50 of this, complete hundred quests etc.

Saw "honest review" of Monster Hunter series on youtube, although of course not a serious review, the statement at the end couldn't be more appropriate for MHW: there is a good game somewhere there it is just buried under a pile of garbage.

Possibly the worst version of a monster hunter game with various faults, lack of content and strange design choices and horrible fights reallyPossibly the worst version of a monster hunter game with various faults, lack of content and strange design choices and horrible fights really ruining the game as whole. Monster variety is limited to a handful of different animation sets and some fights are pure agony to work around it’s mechanics, most weapons are bland and basic and simple features like a pause button is absent.

The game does look great for the most part but don’t let that convince you that this is a good MH title, go play MH3U, MHGenU or MH4U instead, you’d thank me in the long run
