    Mordheim: City of the Damned is exactly what I want from a Warhammer game. It has translated the table top game excellently to the PS4 and provides a brilliant example of turn based strategy gaming. Whilst there are some technical issues present the game is able to overcome these to offer a truly engaging experience.

    Like its PC brother the console version of City of the Damned delivers challenging turn-based strategy. And like its PC brother it lacks technical finesse and precision. But that rarely impacts the fun.

    The biggest hurdle this game has other than the difficulty wall is how much time it requires. This isn’t a pick-up-and-play title, and a significant amount of time will be needed before the player will feel any real accomplishment. With so many other time-sinks already out there in the RPG genre, MCOTD may only find a cult, niche audience willing to devote the hours necessary to fully grasp just how deep the title runs.

    Mordheim is unapologetically hardcore, and if you’re not the type to play the X-COM games in Iron Man mode then you might want to give it a miss. It’s complex, detailed, finicky and somewhat unforgiving, and while the strategy can be tense and interesting, the actual combat feels slow and a prone to random elements.

    I found myself wishing that something would appear to redeem Mordheim: City of the Damned, but as it began to feel like every action in the game was taking a few agonizing seconds too long, I realised that I’d lost hope in much the same way as the residents of the eponymous city. Mordheim isn’t a dangerous place, it’s just a bit dull.

    If you’re desperate for some Warhammer strategy then this may do you, otherwise you’d be best to look elsewhere.

The game mechanics, the campaign, the quality of builds to your war party, the models themselves....all top shelf. A unique, quaint little arena generator game creator. Clearly a lot of thought from lovers, fans of true turnbase strat arena rpging worked on this game. They know its a winner and went straight to work on Necromunda Underhivewars. Which will be a huge graphical improvement built over a similar turnbased battle system....FOCUS are publishing some truly unique rpg gaming titles i love that about these guys.... a publisher that i assume has a strong background in gaming based on some of their oldschool commitment to rpgs, turnbase strat genre titles they publish and get behind. Anyway get on this game, its tough, watch some build videos on youtube and read up steam community guides....The game is a bit on shallow side but still plenty of hours of true tabletop arena battling, what it does it does brilliantly well. One of the best games to come out in my days just cos the conversion of tabletop rpging into electronic format has never been done so good. Necromunda will be huge hit… Expand

The tutorial is very useful to learn the basics of the gameplay, and more help is provided in the first missions of the campaign. Start with normal difficulty quests (use “scout” if none is available on the map) and improve the stats and skills of your warriors before trying hard or storyline missions.… Expand

As a player of the table top game I think it holds true to the heart of the game. Your battle can all go south on the roll of a dice and you could lose characters you are attached to. There is no saving the same and reloading so what done is done. This is probably going to scare quite a few people away but its a welcome change from other games out there. Your decisions have long term repercussions and you have to think about a strategy in every battle. I have enjoyed my 15-20 hours with the game and anticipate dumping a ton more time into it in between titles. The campaign missions are the biggest drawback from the game - they suck - but luckily they are almost entirely optional.… Expand

However, after a few campaign battles, i get the hang of it, and the turns fly by as I get to grips with controls and UI.

    As a GREAT fan of the tabletop version of Mordheim, I must say I might be a little biased, but I still play this game regularly. And yes, sometimes, it feels like turnbased slugmatch, but try to accomplish the secondaty objectives and youll really get the hang of why this is such an awesome game.    … Expand

On Xbox One X, arguably the most powerful console out there at the time of this review, load times are extreme, frame rates low, and character responsiveness is shoddy. Perhaps the most offensive part is the user interface. It’s the most cluttered, complex, and convoluted UI I’ve ever seen in 30+ years of playing video games. Mordheim is a frustrating experiene I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.… Expand
