One of the best fighting games we’ve seen in years.

Mortal Kombat 11 arrives to become the new spearhead of the franchise. The new playable mechanics, the immense amount of content and the updated graphics are its primary virtues.

Mortal Kombat 11 offers the same gory, over-the-top violence that we've come to love from the series. The story is interesting, meshing past and present together in a fun way. Several modes offer replayability, but the grinding resources for the Krypt may get tedious.

Mortal Kombat 11 is a first-class fighting game experience, featuring rock-solid core mechanics, impressive production values, and a story that wouldn’t be out of place alongside the summer’s biggest blockbusters. Of course, the game also suffers from some of the drawbacks of big-budget game development, including grindy customization and tacked-on microtransactions, but that stuff is largely superfluous. Beneath the triple-A fat, Mortal Kombat’s bloody heart still beats as strong as ever.

As it stands, Mortal Kombat 11 is violent and extremely brutal but at the same time insidiously sexy and suave. Its more grown-up take on matters enhances its cast’s appeal and that’s all the personal preference I need to keep up with often unfair gameplay.

All in all, Mortal Kombat 11 is a solid addition to the franchise. It has arguably the weakest story mode in the new MK trilogy, but even that mode has one of the better fighting game story modes on the market. The gameplay is solid, satisfying and fun, with a lot of potential depth. There's a lot of good single-player content for those who like beating up various characters, in addition to the online multiplayer that is genre-standard. Mortal Kombat 11 is everything that a Mortal Kombat game should be, and it's something fans should enjoy.

Like the grisly cutscenes, Mortal Kombat 11 is fun as long as you don't think too hard or look too closely at it - but that's exactly where the real joy is found in a fighting game. If Mortal Kombat wants to elevate itself, it's time to start overhauling the skeleton underneath all that flesh. [Issue#333, p.110]

This is as good as it gets. If you need a reminder, go play the older ones, anything in the middle of 3 and X are ... not good man...they really are not. This one does everything right. Don't let these far right edgelords tell you what to think. Go play it somewhere, give it a go. You'll be surprised. This IS Mortal Kombat. Expand

The story is not very good. But there are so many challenges or other things you can do. The heroes are so fun to play

The Krypt is totally random, requiring 3 different forms of currency that, get this, you unlock through grossly laborious tower challenges that aren't fun, and basically completely random "test your luck" type tests of patience and your pocketbook. Instead of scummy practices like forcing you to just buy everything, which would honestly be preferable because at least you can just get what you want, you instead have to buy currency and still go through this grind. It's crazy, and it justifies a 0 score because this is unacceptable, anti-consumer garbage that took the wind out of my sails. I've been a fan of Mortal Kombat since 1996, and here I am saying this has killed all my interest. I was someone voraciously checking the updates on this game day after day, and now I really just feel depressed. Expand

Man it REALLY goes to show how disconnected developers and games journalism is from the general audience when at the time of this review thereMan it REALLY goes to show how disconnected developers and games journalism is from the general audience when at the time of this review there are nearly 500 negative reviews for this game from the general audience and 0 from journalists. Either way the garbage grind that the once loved crypt has turned into, tons of micro-transactions, not disclosing that Frost is unlockable in game and charging for her, the insanely divisive political **** shoe-horned into the game, and omitting tons of fan favorite characters really bring down the experience of this game overall. If anything good can be said about this game it's that the gameplay is pretty, but you can get that and everything this game is missing (besides good online play if you're buying the PC release) from MKXL and that's 20-30 bucks. Do yourself a favor and just avoid this dumpster fire that's sure to only grow in the same way that games like Black ops 4 did. Expand

A lot of micro transactions and self advertising shows that nowadays the only thing NetherRealm cares about is money...
