Regardless of all its faults, I still believe Mortal Shell is a solid game. It transcends itself from being another Dark Souls imitation to an excellent game based on true inspiration. This is all the more impressive once you realize that a small studio of fifteen people developed a game with such high quality. Mortal shell is a remarkable love letter to FromSoftware’s Staple series, and its asking price of $29.99 is just an added reason for why Souls fans especially should be picking up this game.

Mortal Shell offers a souls-like with a dark story, innovative gameplay, and great graphics quality that will overwhelm fans of this genre. Its short duration and its limited variety in some aspects leave you wanting to see a second chapter.

Mortal Shell is a true love letter to the Dark Souls franchise. A game that takes the playable core from the FromSoftware's titles and, rather than changing it, builds around it to keep an experience that really feels true to the Dark Souls origin.

Without fundamentally upsetting the codes inherent in Souls Like, Mortal Shell knows how to adorn itself with a personality of its own, as much thanks to its system of discovery of objects as of combat, which manages to largely compensate for the absence of parry posture with mechanics of hardening, determination and counter-perfect perfectly interwoven.

An intriguing world and challenging, varied gameplay make for a worthwhile experience. If you're a fan of the Soulsborne games, you'll most definitely like this. There are, however, some annoyances, chief among which the low number of savepoints and slow walking speed of your character.

Mortal Shell is another Dark Souls clone with nice graphics, interesting ideas and good combat mechanics. On the other hand, there's a problems with hitboxes, enemies are too slow, and it lacks epic bosses and spectacular battles. However, among other Dark Souls clones this game looks really unusual and worthy.

Unfortunately, Mortal Shell just feels like a bad Dark Souls game, while I enjoyed it initially, the more I played the more it wore away my enjoyment. The few unique features it has do make the game feel slightly unique but its world-building, combat and enemies pale in comparison to its inspiration. The bad AI and other small issues do little to complement what could have been an enjoyable title. There are far better games in the genre.

I am a huge Dark Souls and Bloodborne fan and I appreciate what the creators did in this game. From a small company Cold Symetry of 4 individuals that no one have heard of since it is their first developed game, They did a pretty good damn JOB! I am looking forward for more releases in the future. I have played this game non stop. I even got the hard copy as well with the poster collections as it was worth buying for me I love the mechanics, combat, boss fights, landscape environments, the gothic dark feel of the game and the cryptic story! I will definitely recommend buying! I loved it! Expand

This is an indie title, these people didn’t have the same budget that FromSoftware had to produce the Soulsborne games. Yet, they still crafted a (very) beautiful and challenging experience.
The combat is fluid and hardening is a really interesting mechanic. Parrying is enjoyable and offers a great risk/reward. I like the pace of the combat, it is somewhat in between bloodborne and dark souls. Very good debut title, curious to see what this studio can do with more re$ources.

One of very few Souls clones worth to play. Combat mechanics are very interesting and refreshing together with consumable items. CombinationOne of very few Souls clones worth to play. Combat mechanics are very interesting and refreshing together with consumable items. Combination of parry and hardened make combat at least awesome like DS! But, there are few bad things which prevent game to be fully enjoyable! First, healing system (those mushrooms hardly touch your health to raise it) and confusing map design with too less checkpoints. But, WORST gameplay destroyer is LOOOONG loading time after each death. Hard games where you die a lot should have instant respawn (like Dark Souls) because with long loading time become too frustrating to pass game mechanics learning curve! Hope they can improve this in upcoming patches! Expand

Very poor game just like all the souls games. Rubbish. Not difficult and maybe slightly better than dark souls but boring trash.
