A gorgeous-looking, very well designed game that offers five different racing styles to tackle - and a bevy of interesting cars to modify and make your own. Its story is a lot of fun, and it's set in an impressively large environment that is very enjoyable to drive around. A great arcade racer that's both challenging and addictive.

Ghost Games is onto something seriously promising with this franchise reboot. However, being unable to pause the game as well as no option to play offline may prove two obstacles that are not surmountable for some players.

Need for Speed returns with a title that lacks innovation and content, but it still is very fun and engaging. Also, if you've missed tuning your cars, you'll love this episode.

A worthy successor to the both Underground games doesn’t reach their quality though. Arcade riding feels fresh and if you are up to an easy fun you have just arrived to your destination.

It’s a real shame new Need for Speed turned out to be a game with a great potential that in the end offers so little.

Looks gorgeous, rewards driving out of your comfort zone, has pleasing physics and sense of velocity... but needlessly online-only, pumped full of irritating live-action pap, and runs out of fuel early. [January 2015, p77]

A tragically misjudged series reboot that gets all of the fundamentals wrong, while adding absolutely nothing new to the franchise except flashier graphics.

BUT, if you are anything into the urban car culture, and are interested in customizing your car like in Underground 2, or if you were an NFS fan before the last few disappointing titles, you should definitely look into this one.
Here, you get all the sensations that were lost in the last few NFS games. The story may be bland like in any other racing games, but the customization alone would be worth the try. The fact that you can fully max out an original AE86 with all the crazy body kits is enough for you, if you are an Underground fan, to enjoy the game immensely. Do not trust review especially by IGN because they didn't even mention the customization part in the final marking scheme, this is plain stupid.

Did they deliver? On some fronts, yes. On some other fronts, they didn't.

    The positives?
The presentation and graphics in this game are top notch. Ghost Games already showed what the Frostbite 3 engine could do in NFS: Rivals in 2013, but this game blows it away.

Car customization is finally back in this NFS. It's the most extensive customization system since NFS:Carbon back in November 2006, almost 10 years ago. It is not quite on the same levels as Carbon, or even NFS: Underground 2. It is more or less on the same level as NFS: Most Wanted (2005). Which is still good.

The physics are arcade-y and can be customized to your liking. You can fine tune every single component or you can just slide the main slider if you're not in the mood. You like heavy drifts? Crank that slider all the way to the left! You prefer more grip? Slide that baby to the right. Very NFS: Most Wanted (2005) and Carbon like.

Great city design and layout. Ventura Bay is a fun city to ride through.

    The Bad stuff?

    First off, the soundtrack.
It has some great songs and artists like, Run The Jewels with "Blockbuster Night pt.1" a couple of good aggressive EDM bangers and the one decent song off of Refused disappointing comeback album. But that's maybe 10 out of 50 tracks. It's one dimensional. All of the other songs just blend and bleed in one another. One generic D'n'B beat to another.

The city feels "not alive". Barely any NPC's and traffic to be found in the world. Even the cops are complete pushovers!

Rubberbanding. I don't mind subtle rubberbanding to keep the player away from slacking off, but it can get outright ridiculous (and at times unfair) in this game.

    Always online.
Just why? NFS: Most Wanted (2012) and Rivals had the same, if not more dedicated online services and modes than this game, yet those game could be played offline by default. There was absolutely no benefit to make this always online. No new things are introduced. There are too few players in your server to make everything feel "alive" or "dynamic". Plus, they can interrupt your races...great. And when the servers have to go down for maintenance you have no chance to finish your race and cash in your earnings.

    Fantastic.

Another issue is that there are less events/races in this game compared to past NFS games. This might sound like a nitpick, but the game is slightly lighter on content when compared to past titles. But the devs will release extra content for free with updates, so...

Overall, Need for Speed (2015) is a fun arcade racer that oozes with style, but is ridden with many annoyances and questionable design choices.

As a visual experience, Need For Speed is awe-inspiring, with photorealistic graphics that make the world and cars so real that you will not believe your eyes, and you can explore the entire city at your leisure. But NFS disappoints in every other department. The story mode is lame, the cutscenes with the millennaial stereotype characters (and their incessant phone calls) are insufferable, it's constantly night which gets really boring after a while, the cop chases are aggravating and punishing and the tuning, while certainly very addictive and rewarding, is not as easy as it should be due to the need to rack up tons of money. It's certainly a visually extraordinary game, the races are decent enough and you can buy and decorate a dozens of awesome cars, but this game lacks a heart and soul. Oh, and it's always online - another big flaw. Expand

Never have i bothered to write a review about any game simply coz i do think it is about ones personal taste for a game....

Tho this title hits a new level of worst of the worst with just 1 major flaw.... it is ALWAYS online, this means you can't play w/o being connected to the EA servers....

Now that on itself doesn't hold me back but the problem is that the EA servers are crap and loose connection frequently, this results in the player being booted from the game and well not able to play at all....

First i thought it was my ISP but no other game ever gives me any issues with online play only this title

i would understand it IF i really wanted to play online but i can't even finish the "story" mode because of disconnection issues.

My advice: STAY FAR away from this game even if it is in the discount rack or hell for that matter given to you, it simply aint worth it to try to play it

this and only this makes me hate this game everything else is well just as it should be, nice cars nice driving pretty decent handling nice graphics.

tho all that doesn't make up for the disconnection issues i am returning this game and never want to see it again
