New Gundam Breaker is a love letter to Gundam fandom to the point where the devs can’t imagine that anyone playing wouldn’t know the mechs inside and out. In light of this, the real testament to New Gundam Breaker’s success is the fact that its obvious passion for its subject made me want to learn.
NGB is a girl game that runs on yugioh GX rules. It is your standard loop of break parts build things. For what it is, I had a fun time playing it with my wife. only down side it it is now almost impossible to get an online match. But if you can find it used enjoy.
This game is a different series from the other 3 gundam breakers and should not be compared to the other games. There are some frame rate issues and some lag but the game is extremely fun if you like mech games or gundam games
New Gundam Breaker definitely has some great nuanced aspects to its core concept of mix-and-match mech model making, but what it needed was more variety to spice up the gameplay. While last year’s Gundam Vs was nothing mind-blowing it was a much more solid and mixed combat experience.
New Gundam Breaker is a good concept, shoddily put together. The story is a trope-fest, battles are confusing and the masses of text are hard to read. There are so few positive points it’s not funny.
New Gundam Breaker builds on some awesome ideas one of the worst action games we ever played. Controls feel unresponsive and clunky, therefore playing any combat mission is a chore and the predictable and poorly written story doesn't help at all.
New Gundam Breaker feels unfinished. The combat system doesn't work, the visual novel is stale and uninspired, and the dating sim doesn't fit. In short: It's a pretty terrible game.
New Gundam Breaker is a disaster. A near broken mess of an action game, even Gundam maniacs will struggle to stomach its many, many flaws. Its visual novel elements are so obnoxiously cliche that you'll have to stop your eyes from rolling our of their sockets, and the gameplay is a mix of clunky controls and unfathomable chaos. Add some unbelievably poor technical performance to the mix, and you have a Gundam game that's not even fit to be mobile suit scrap orbiting the Earth.
Not terrible, but needs a lot of polish.
Pros:
- First and foremost, the customization. Being able to build your very own gundam looks and feels as it should modelling wise. With a decent selection to start from, you can generally build a really good and unique looking Gunpla pretty easily
- Combat generally feels very fast paced, and with the right set up, combat can feel generally fluid
- Stages, though few, are each very unique. Each one offers multiple levels and "lanes" to progress through to various objectives that players have over the course of a match.
Cons:
- The game is still very, very buggy, with overhauls desperately needed to fix game stalling during matches.
- The story is, very bland at best. The individual stories of 6 possible "unlockable" allies are very nearly carbon copies of each other and do not, apart from unlocking (questionably useable) Builder parts, offer almost no replayability. To put it best, there is almost no reason to play past one of the girls.
- The AI basically does its own thing, it doesn't support players at all in single player, as far as allies are concerned, while enemy AI (the named NPCs) seem to actively hunt the player. Given this situation, and the fact that almost all named NPCs you are against have some form of explosive weapon, it is very common to be ambushed, and then juggled to death with little that you can do, and no support even remotely offered, save for the occasional attacks from green enemies.
Synopsis:
The game seems made and tailored around the setup for a MOBA, as to what looked to be a more typical action 'beat'em up' style game the previous breaker games were styled as. While not inherently a problem unto itself, you should probably not get this game if MOBAs are not your cup of tea. Missions during the match are generally varied. Though mission prompts do little to help in the way of letting players know which mission is which (all kill quests for example, tell you to kill a certain amount of targets, but then do not actually say which targets you need to kill). Given that it is a MOBA style game, leveling in mission allows players use of their EX actions, however, the points at which you gain EX actions is random, and depending on your set up, you could potentially go an entire match without getting any useful abilities at all. As stated in the "Cons" section of the game, the story is bland, almost to the point of non existence. rank rewards for all the story sections give builder parts, with which to further customize player gunpla, but, given that they give marginal stat upgrades, at the cost of another stat being diminished, it is almost worthless to actually use them. Arguably, the only reason to go through the different story arcs is to get "S" rank in them for trophy hunting, and that's it.
The game is decently fun, when it isn't glitching, but, named NPCs are a legitimate troll to the players. It does hold promise, but it needs a lot of work before I can say it is a game I would keep in my library. Hold off on buying for now, let it get a few updates into it, and it should be better in a month or two. If you really must get it, it's not a bad game by any stretch, just don't be expecting a lot from it.
Not nearly as bad as all the low scoring reviews have said. Yes it could be a bit more stable but the game is fun, there are tons of Gunpla to build and smash together and the gameplay is still great even if it had changed since Gundam Breaker 3. Don't get me wrong, this definitely isn't the Gundam Breaker 4 everybody wanted but it's still a pretty good game and clearly the calling it New Gundam Breaker instead of Gundam Breaker 4 was a distinction worth making, this is a change for the series and by no means a sequel.
*What this game is all about*
- The story part: Basically reading through different scenarios featuring different heroines.
- The combat part: To advance the scenarios you (your "toy robot") and your partners are placed in a huge arena. Completing given missions in a given time to win the battles.
- The customization part: During your battles you will be able to pick up parts to assemble your GUNPLA ("toy robot"). Parts, colors, decals etc.
- The online game play: The is no co-op in this game. Online play matches you with 2 other random guys or your friends to compete with 3 other random players to see who can win most missions in one battle.
*The Pros*
- Very nice graphic, neat music.
- Building your own GUNPLA, posing them and taking pictures of them kills a lot of spare time.
*The Cons*
- The combat system is a huge flaw. Game would suddenly freezes for a few seconds during battles. Movements are clunky, overall user experience is very uncomfortable.
- The game rule is hard to understand without multiple tries, worse, chaotic.
*Conclusion*
At this stage, the game is below average of even some good Indie Games out there which are either cheap in price or totally Free to play. Unless you really want a new Gundam game right now, don't hesitate to skip this because you will probably end up hating yourself for not listening to our advice.
