Enter a brutal world under assault from terrifying creatures from another dimension, hold back the tide with limited resources and endure brutal conditions in visually stunning world.

Experience dynamic turn-based combat and a new way to anticipate enemy movements to perform a flawless tactical plan. Using the Initiative Sequence System and unique set of skills, you will be able to interrupt an enemy attack, plan a delayed action that will be triggered later on in the timeline and use reaction skill to respond to any threat.

Prepare to suffer and face close calls in our terrifying and ruthless universe. With roguelite features, deadly missions, limited resources and permanent death, there is no room for errors.

Level up, unlock new skills and collect memories from the death of your enemies. A limited number of these bonuses can be implemented to your skills to boost their stats. But choose wisely as once implemented, you can't take them back, unless... you decide to sacrifice your Daughter!

Make dramatic choices and endure with your Daughters traumatic experiences which will make them stronger or weaker.

Othercide invites you in a ethereal monochromatic dimension with only dashes of crimson red where your worst nightmares come to life.

Othercide is a fantastic rogue-like-Xcom-like turn based strategy game with an awesome Noire-Gothic design. The initiative feature is a fresh twist to this genre and the soul-crushing sacrificing of the Daughters are the morbid features that make this game shine. This game will keep you stuck to the screen until you win.

Othercide does not want you to fail. It wants you to learn, to accept loss, to make bold sacrifices. Lightbulb Crew has designed a beautiful game with truly stunning imagery. But just as striking is the attention to detail in its gameplay. This dark, broken world is meant to be tamed by players who seek out the boldest strategies to purge evil forces. Caring for the Daughters, understanding their quirks and randomly generated names and looks will create an inseparable bond that lasts not only for the first run but every subsequent one. There are several secrets to unfold in Othercide but it’s little secret that it is one of the best strategy games to have graced us in years.

Othercide is a menagerie of morose beauty and slick turn-based action. You will feel both vulnerable and powerful at any given stage, which is indicative of the dynamic RPG and roguelite elements. And with an unforgettable artistic flair and engulfing atmosphere, you won't want to give up, no matter how crushing the difficulty can become.

An impressively original take on XCOM style turn-based strategy that gains in depth and versatility what it loses in accessibility, with some of the best boss encounters of the year.

Othercide is a wonderfully imperfect game: you can't overlook the lack of class balance, nor the exasperation of its roguelike nature. This one, above all, is capable of inflicting hits of great playful frustration before the experience and skills acquired begin to shyly overlook your endless ordeals. The game doesn't come to terms with anyone, it proudly writes its rules and dictates its own inflexible laws. Getting in tune with this type of gameplay can provide a unique and rewarding experience. If, however, the roguelike have tired you out or have never given you a particular attraction, Othercide is certainly not the game that will change your mind.

Othercide brings some great ideas to the table to differentiate it from similar titles. Unfortunately what content is here gets repetetive quite quickly. It does have its moments, such as the boss battles, so fans of the genre should give it a try.

A better version of Othercide exists in another universe, one that doesn’t take the least interesting aspects of roguelikes and runs them into the ground. At its core is an interesting tactics game, but its constant need to repeat itself does it no favors. While not a long game, Othercide drags out what little there is to it and then does it all over again. The progression proceeds linearly, throwing few curve balls. The ones it does throw soon become routine, like everything else, as the same missions are repeated on the trip back to the boss. Like the Daughters themselves, players are forced to fight the same battles again and again in the hope that maybe, this time, things will be different.

An interesting feature with gameplay is that when failure is not failure, it is a fresh attempt. Cool invented with the treatment and death of daughters, each action is now more carefully thought out.

Clever, reflective, and beautiful turn based game which rewards thoughtful play and learning from mistakes. XCom gets mentioned a lot but IClever, reflective, and beautiful turn based game which rewards thoughtful play and learning from mistakes. XCom gets mentioned a lot but I see more of Mechanicus and Transistor in this in how it plays and the way the story, music, art, and gameplay come together.

Few niggles and bugs on release and with first post-release patch. The reaction of the indie devs to more feedback has been positive and proactive so far so hopefully those bits of polish and user friendliness can be added.

If you're intrigued by the idea of a dark, and somtimes unforgiving, nightmarish take on turn based squad games then this nails its landing.

The game has great style and concept, but needs more improvement in the gameplay department.

For a tactics game, the title does a sub par job in relaying you the required information to build strategies. For instance, you can view enemy movement range, but you cannot lock it so that it remains displayed. This coupled with the black and white art style makes it really hard to determine where the enemy will finish the movement and in turn, to place your daughter in the correct spot. You can view enemy information such as attack values and skills, but there isn't even a highlight to show you your cursor placement. At first I thought you could not access enemy skill page, but it turns out that you can, you just can't see your selections while moving through the positions.

Enemies also have attack patterns which are described in the codex, but you better remember what you read, since during the battle there is no way to bring up that information. What's more, there is no visual indication for the enemies which unit will they attack if they use such pattern. If the scavenger enemy should attack the daughter that is 'the furthest away' why isn't there any indication which daughter will it be? After shuffling their positions you can lose track which character is to be attacked. This leads to a lot of guesswork which should not have place in a tactical game that gives you info on enemy attack preferences.
Additionally, while your characters have to use AP to both move and attack it is not clear how this works with the enemies. They do not have AP bars nor any values to their attacks so again, some enemies will not attack while they use their full movement, while others will use their full movement range and then blast of all of their skills.
Lastly, the skill descriptions, I don't who was responsible for them, but good lord, some of them are downright confusing and it makes it really hard to decide with which of the two skills to go with.

The stability is ok and I have not encountered any crashes but there are obviously bugs to be found I think biggest of which is that I constantly get only hunt missions instead of getting a normal mix of all the 4 types of missions but I don't know, that may be by design.

With all the negatives I still really enjoy the game, which to me shows it has a lot of potential. The core concepts are really strong but I feel they are bogged down by minor issues, which when pilled up, cause harm to the enjoyment. I hope that the devs patch the game up because then the game will truly shine.

After that things start taking shape and you can actively manage your inventory of daughters and it feels a lot more fun. The boss mechanics are wonderfully difficult - most of the regular mob quests however are pretty simple and honestly kind of a dull grind. High points for atmosphere, lore, art, etc. The game play mechanics wise is a bit clunky, but they've already patched out a few weird things, and I expect more goodness to come in that variety. I think this is a proper $20-30 game but the $40 price tag feels high for what it is. Overall it's fun and worth a try if you like the art and turn-based games or rogue-likes in general, but if you don't like those 3 things I'd definitely avoid it. Expand
