The lack of licences for top-tier leagues remains a disheartening sticking point, but PES continues to make brilliant strides on the pitch, building on what was already an incredibly satisfying game of football to produce one of the greatest playing football games of all time. It might be lacking off the pitch, but put it on the field against the competition and a famous giant killing wouldn't be all that surprising.

PES 2019 is by far and away the best football sim money can buy, boasting an enviable level of depth and authenticity FIFA simply can’t hope to match. While the sheer variety of game modes ensures players will be enjoying Konami’s latest for months to come. The biggest drawback is clearly the lack of official licences. Which, unfortunately, will make it exceedingly difficult for PES to win over any but FIFA’s most lukewarm fans.

Great new animations, magical moments, improved pass/receiving mechanics, and a lot more, makes for another great year of PES. It could have had more league licenses though.

The perfect football sim for playing your mates or tackling online but major AI flaw renders the offline experience boring and uninspiring.

PES 2019 is great at really understanding soccer and making it feel like a real game. The controls are tight, the unpredictability is amazing and it feels like a very solid experience. The only thing that is bothering us are the other players and referees.

The gameplay seems real football, but online modes and contents in general are too stuck with the past.

The most important aspects - how it looks and the feel of play - are top-drawer, but this only makes the surrounding drabness even more disappointing, and ensures that PES will remain the preferred choice of contrarians only.

I have no respect to the critics !! They gave a 75 score to the best football game ever in terms of gameplay !!! And they already gave FIFA an 85 without seeing it or coming out yet !!! This is so pathetic and biased. I am talking to you all soccer users. If you want to play football this year, get PES 2019. If you want to see videos and presentation but bad football, then get FIFA 19. Expand

If you look at the profiles you can see how they only have one review and all that. Definitely fake accounts paid for/created by EA to lower the scores. Pathetic. Also Metacritic didn't even put the game in its "new releases" column which is no doubt because KONAMI didn't choose to pay them. Just ignore all those crap and enjoy the game. It's amazing. Fixed the annoying issues with defenders in PES 2018 and you really can't ask for a better football sim on the current consoles. Online matches are very exciting. Honestly didn't expect this release to be this good. Expand

I really want to give this game a high score but I just can't give Konami that credit. I had great expectations after enjoying the 2017I really want to give this game a high score but I just can't give Konami that credit. I had great expectations after enjoying the 2017 version so much and the demo looking very good. Sadly the game is ruined by several frustrating issues.

    Without going into detail:
    1) Player switching logic is awful at times
    2) Inability to come towards an underhit pass
    3) Awful teammate AI, especially when defending
    4) All goals on high difficulty are identical
    5) Stumbling mechanic (which doesn't affect CPU) occurs too often
    6) Players not controlled by player who can easily intercept just stand idle when ball rolls past them.

Until these relatively easy to solve issues are fixed, it will be a struggle to enjoy the game, particular on the higher difficulties.

On a positive note, the addition of new leagues is great, the presentation is amazing and all the game modes are very enjoyable. I'm gutted the gameplay doesn't live up to that.

You cannot pass to the closest player if there is another one a little bit far. Sometime the pass goes to one player, sometimes goes to another. Even star players will make A LOT of mistakes with very simple passing. Unless you use some special technique, all your shoots will be out of the target. You just cannot win in PES 2019 if you play normally, you have to get used to the terrible controls.

This is exactly the reason why I stop playing Fifa, because it's necessary to use special controls, movements and tricks to fool the CPU and score. If you just play normally, press the buttons to pass, shoot and defend, you will lose. Nothing works...

I don't want to learn tricks, like pressing R2/R1/L1 and something else to be able to play. I just want to play like in PES 2014. Bring PES 2014 back!

Konami deserve to go out of business for lying to their customers. it's an absolute joke Expand
