Pure Pool - PS4 Teaser Trailer
Aug 5, 2014Pure Pool offers a beautiful and accurate game of pool, featuring a large amount of various games types and difficulties to accommodate all players. The network works enough to get the job done, but there are a great deal of flaws that keep the servers from being a constant stomping ground. Regardless of the online issues, Pure Pool has a great sense of progression that embodies a stellar pool mechanic only beaten by actually playing pool.

Yeah I understand what you are saying dude and to some extent I agree with you, the angle viewing could be better and markers but none of that detracts from the game quality. I prefer no power bar, no chalk, no gimmicks, just Pure Pool!
I find the table very good so each to their own opinion, lets meet up and have a few games online! There are server issues with launch which they are fixing and is not anything to do with the game itself but rather the servers...
I also agree it is harder to play opponents who are like minded and don't use aids etc, it seems you need to create a League or know your opponent and challenge them, the Quick Match I never used in HK since it would match me up with full aiming lines!
Interestingly I played Virtual Pool 3 and Virtual Pool Hall a lot on the PC and was involved in the world leagues, I was ranked 9th at one point many moons ago...but never played 4...
I disagree with pithing_needle...I play pool for my pub team and this pool simulation is by far the nearest thing I've ever played on a console to real life.
The game drips in quality and oozes class. The 1080p and 60fps does it justice but the game itself feels very right when you play it. I found the table speed very good, I felt the amount of power I pulled back with on the cue reflected what I wanted to do in the shot and love the fact that aiming lines are not so accurate.
I much prefer no aiming lines but the angle you view the shots with can be hard to judge so the little circle makes sense so you can at least tell which side of the object ball you are hitting.
Online play was smooth and seamless...I too would prefer to weed out those using a line but there must be a way to do this. In Hustle Kings if you went to a Quick Match you got a random person who may have used lines too but then in HK you could create rooms that specified no aiming lines. More time is needed on Pure Pool.
This is by the far the best pool simulation game ever and deserves a 10/10 for me. The fact that The Last of Us Remastered edition is still in its wrapper shows how addictive this game is.… Expand

For me the absolute number one requirement for a pool game is realistic physics. This game feels spot on in that regard and that's enough for me to score it 9/10. The one criticism I have of the physics so far is backspin. It seems to have a delay whereby the cue-ball continues to move forward a few inches after striking the target ball before the spin kicks in.
The only thing the game needs is a bit more polish. A few more options and game modes, a slightly more slicked up interface perhaps.
My main suggestions would be:
UK modes (smaller different colour balls, smaller pockets, different table size, and different rules).
Custom cues, table clothes, chalk etc.
Still, the main aspect is there and playing the game on master difficulty is a good challenge which keeps me going back to play it again.… Expand

To start "The Good" – the games looks amazing and the physics are very good. Other than the career mode, this game is quite fun. Lots of fun challenges to keep you busy for hours. For online games with friends there are some server glitches every once in awhile, but I expect this with any PS4 game these days. For $10 bucks you get a fairly decent game so I really can't complain...but I will LOL!
"The Bad" –The angles are not perfect in some situations so you will miss several shots until you get used to the wonky view. Also the colour selections of the table felt are too dark and you can't see the far corner pockets very well. I used the slate as this seems to be the best in my opinion. The background music which is 3 or so ambient instrumental lounge songs will get annoying quick, just go to your setting and turn the volume off.
"The Ugly" – Like most have mentioned here when you start out in the 8 ball amateur career (or any career) the AI seems fairly well balanced, then soon the AI becomes nearly impossible to beat. If you miss one shot your done. Sometimes you won't even get a shot. For purists I guess this ok, for casual players this blows. Too bad there is such un-ballanced AI, because at some point the fun fades and the frustration starts. If there where settings to allow the player to dial down the AI's ability, it would make for a much more enjoyable game for us casual players. Also you will spend way too much time watching the AI take it's sweet time lining up shots, basically if the game is 4 minutes, 3 minutes will be you bored to death watching the AI.
That's my take on Pure Pool.… Expand
Aug 1, 2014Showing promise, feels like a paid for demo.
Firstly, yes, the visuals are as stunning as a pool game probably could be. The balls looksShowing promise, feels like a paid for demo.
Firstly, yes, the visuals are as stunning as a pool game probably could be. The balls looks suspiciously like very shiny balls, the table has nicely detailed cloths and decals on them, if you choose to have them on.
Sound is good, plenty of ambient noise, sounds like you're in a hotel bar and shooting a little pool. Clacking of the balls is good and the "thunk" as the cue hits the ball is satisfying.
BUT < and believe me, that but is so big you could fit 20 PS4s end to end between the B and the T, the lack of game types, customization, career and general options lets the game down horribly.
It has 3 game modes. US 8 ball, 9 ball, Accumulator....... that's it. Where is Rotation? Straight pool? Killer? 3Ball? let alone even more obscure versions of pool like Golf, 1Pocket or Bank pool.
There is only one location. It looks nice though. there's a bit of movement in the background but nothing off putting. I wouldn't study it too hard or you will notice that it's not as good as a quick glance would lead you to believe.
Game play is also a little limited. You can use side, back and top spin. You can also raise your cue butt.
BUT, don 't be expecting to pull off the type of shots the pros of Youtube make. You can barely swerve the ball, barely jump the ball and when you do either you can't really control where it ends up. The basic controls are enough, however, to play a basic game of pool.
On the whole.
For the money they're charging the game isn't bad, but it does feel like you're paying for a limited demo, kind of like there's a really great pool game on the way and this is just to show you what they're working on. For now, if you have a PS3 / X360, Stick to Pool Nation and keep an eye on Pure Pool.... hopefully it will grow up and be a great game.… Expand

Virtual pool 3 15 years ago had better controls more options and just the same stunning graphics. This is lack luster attempt with no real options for game play. No camera angles at all. No ball sets no real cue sets. You get cues but no options to choose. Just completely horrible AI. Look I understand you just want to push a product fast to bilk people or of money. But seriously ubi you should be ashamed. And those giving 10 need to play games with real content. I bought this because of the great reviews. I'm tired of companies producing $!@# and selling at outrageous prices and people praising it as great. To end this is a horribly incomplete game don't buy.… Expand
