Resident Evil 3 proves that Resident Evil 2 wasn’t just a one-off success of a remake and shows that Capcom has a winning formula on its hands.
  2. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a worthy successor to the Resident Evil 2 remake in every respect. A perfect reimagining and one of the best entries in the Resident Evil franchise.
  3. Mar 30, 2020
Just as the 1999 original was a more action-focused Resident Evil game that arguably helped pivot the franchise towards the iconic fourth instalment, this 2020 reimagining feels like last year’s game in many ways, only sped up and thirstier for zombie blood. It treads the line between tension and action impressively, and Nemesis cements his legacy as one of the series’ most enduring creatures. If you’re stuck inside and looking for somewhere to escape, you’ll find Raccoon City more than accommodating.
  4. Mar 30, 2020
As last year's Resident Evil 2, this remake of Resident Evil 3 is an almost impeccable work from Capcom, redefining the meaning of what a remake is. A letter of love for all the fans out there.
  5. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a brilliant remake. It is faithful to the original 1999 PSX game, with updated gameplay and graphics, but Capcom has been able to deepen its storyline, characters and connections with RE2. On the downside, you can finish it under 5 hours (first round).
  6. Mar 31, 2020
Overall, Resident Evil 3/Resident Evil Resistance is a solid release that hardcore fans will love and will bring something fresh for newcomers to the series. It may not be RE2R, but that doesn’t hurt it in the end. It’s a memorable experience and can’t wait to complete it on Hardcore.
  7. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 comes to life twenty years later to return us to a completely redesigned Raccoon City for the occasion, with additions that expand the gaming experience and allow you to enjoy this classic in the best possible way.

    Apr 17, 2020
It’s a fantastic game in itself but its best parts are the ones that reiterate the features known from last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake. [05/2020, p.56]
  9. Apr 3, 2020
Overall, Resident Evil 3 is a wonderful continuation of Capcom’s latest remake efforts. Although its just-okay multiplayer mode falls short of the bar set by its magnificent single-player campaign, the latter does such a good job at balancing 2020 gameplay and a classic Resident Evil tone that I recommend it without reservations. Hopefully, we’ll see more classic games in Capcom’s library remade with such finesse and loving care – along with some new games, too.
  10. Mar 31, 2020
Resident Evil 3 follows in the footsteps of Resident Evil 2 by creating a great survival horror experience while revamping an old classic. While several sections from the original game are missing and it can be a tad linear, it’s a great ride with very few low points, with the game ending as great as it started. Though the main game lacks features, Resident Evil Resistance should make up for it if it can maintain a strong playerbase.
  11. Mar 31, 2020
Capcom has once again delivered an incredible remake of a twenty year old classic. From it's incredible visuals to the excellent action-horror gameplay, the Resident Evil 3 remake succeeds in almost every aspect. Thanks to some masterful touches and a wealth of gameplay refinements, Capcom has made a game that feels right at home in the 2020 triple-A space and fans of the series will love every moment.
  12. Mar 30, 2020
From gameplay and replay value, to the overhauled story and environments, Resident Evil 3 is a masterpiece.
  13. Mar 30, 2020
Capcom have done a marvelous job with Resident Evil 3, reviving another of their beloved survival horror classics and making it feel completely fresh once again. Nemesis is back and he’s here to smash your face in.
  14. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a heart-pounding nightmare that blends survival horror and action elements perfectly with the help of its two protagonists. There's so much to explore and discover during every moment of this thriller that it's easy to forget about the horrors that await just around the corner. However, the limited puzzles and short length make it tough to justify the full price. But, like a zombie hungry for brains, I can't seem to get enough of this game.
  15. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a superb remake of the original, with Nemesis being the clear highlight. Although inventory management and aiming can be a problem, it's still a fantastic game.
  16. Mar 30, 2020
On its own, the remake of Resident Evil 3 is another hallmark achievement for Capcom. It may not satisfy purists of the original, but there’s no reason that fans of what the RE2 remake accomplished won’t enjoy this.
  17. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 joins its forbearer as another top notch remake. I’m happy to see what Capcom has been doing with the series and wonder where they’ll take it next.
  18. Apr 2, 2020
Despite its limitations, Resident Evil 3 Remake remains an adventure of interest that lovers of the genre greatly enjoy. A very attractive as well as intense experience.
  19. Apr 10, 2020
With the use of the RE Engine Resident Evil 3 presents the horrors of Raccoon City in a spectacular way. And at the same time the remake of Jill's escape maintains the action and fast-paced style that the original title had, thus bringing the game to the modern era quite successfully.
  20. Mar 31, 2020
As a new occasion to relive the last hours of Jill Valentine in Raccoon City, it meets the mark and then some. But as a sequel from Resident Evil 2 remake, we expected a bit more from Capcom.
  21. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 fails to reach the heights of Resident Evil 2 remake, has a shorter and easier campaign and cuts off some iconic locations like The Clock Tower and Raccoon Park.
  22. 85
More deftly balancing mobility and power with overwhelming horror, Resident Evil 3 still manages to find elements that cause tension and terror despite giving players more ways to fight back. Nemesis tends to be an annoyance more than a true element of horror, but his orchestrated roadblocks are few enough in number that it doesn’t drag down the overall experience. All said, Resident Evil 3 is a brilliant reimagining of the horror classic, with plenty of surprises in store even for the longtime fans. It’s a great partner piece to last year’s Resident Evil 2, helping to reclaim the origins of the series that were once trapped in static environments and blocky characters, lost to consoles past.
  23. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 as a survival horror hits the spot, and, as a remake, it's another great game by Capcom. It feels less unique and less ambitious compared to Resident Evil 2 which, arriving earlier, inevitably kicked in with all its surprises and ended up being the basis for this sequel. Comparisons are inevitable, but this does not mean that Resident Evil 3 does not live up to the expectations, especially with what Nemesis means, a monster that's been causing nightmares for more than 20 years. It's an essentially faithful remake, with few shortcomings and just the right changes to make it worthwhile both for fans and newcomers alike.
  24. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 Remake continues to the raise the bar of what it means to be a remake. It can feel rushed in places, but the sheer terror of Nemesis and the return to form of Jill Valentine makes it an experience you don’t want to miss. Just be sure to bring extra clean underwear along for the ride.
  25. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a superb reimagining that complements last year’s Resident Evil 2 by prioritizing frantic action without compromising its horror roots. Jill and Carlos’s emotional journey is bolstered by threats that build their bond in convincing ways, while Nemesis remains one of the series’ most memorable creations. More than a few surprises await veteran residents of Raccoon City.
  26. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is the franchise’s best action-driven entry since the glory days of Resident Evil 4. A beautifully-balanced combination of white-knuckle mayhem and satisfying old-school tension, Resident Evil 3 is compulsively-munchable popcorn entertainment that, unfortunately, disappears all too quickly. If you’re looking for value, there are certainly meatier games out there, but few that will leave you licking your fingers as happily as this one.
  27. Mar 30, 2020
It's more of the same. That means more of the white-knuckle-gameplay that made Resident Evil 2 such a tense and often scary experience. It's a bit less scary than its predecessor though, due to a regular emphasis on spectacle and a quick succession of levels that hardly ever leaves the payer time to let things soak in. Still great, just not quite the level of outstanding we got last year around.
  28. Mar 30, 2020
I would absolutely recommend Resident Evil 3 and would not be surprised if a sizable portion of the fandom ends up preferring this remake.
  29. Apr 22, 2020
An action-packed, atmospheric new edition of the classic, but which is still in the shadow of its predecessor
  30. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 always had a tough journey ahead of it, having been forever considered the lesser game to the two that sit either side of it, but what Capcom has achieved in changing up the game, whilst still in many respects remaining true to the initial concept, must be applauded.
  31. Apr 8, 2020
At the core, Resident Evil 3 remake is a good game. It plays smoothly and is immensely entertaining. Aside from the fact that the game is sorely lacking in content compared to the original or even the previous Resident Evil 2 remake, I still advise fans of the games, especially Resident Evil 3, to try it out as its quite a refreshing take on the original and feels close enough to home. If you aren’t a Resident Evil fan, however, I advise you to stay away and save the 60 dollars. If you’d like a more modern introduction to the series, I’d recommend the objectively better Resident Evil 2 remake. All in all, I had fun with my playthrough of the game, which is what matters.
  32. Apr 1, 2020
Like the original, it is not as brilliant as the predecessor. Nonetheless Capcom delivers entertaining, albeit quite action-focused survival-horror, enhanced with a decent and actually innovative multiplayer mode.
  33. Mar 31, 2020
The way Nemesis is treated is feels like a missed opportunity, I personally would have liked it more if this new version felt a bit more faithful and authentic. But as a continuous, beautifully produced blockbuster, this is easily the second best remake of the year.
  34. Apr 29, 2020
Resident Evil 3 may not be as good as Resident Evil 2 but It's still a fantastic game. I would say, so far, it's one of the best games of the year. I really want Capcom to continue with this series of remakes. Hopefully we can get a remake of Code Veronica because that's really the one Resident Evil game that needs a remake the most as it's pretty much unplayable today.
  35. Apr 7, 2020
Just like last year's Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3 is a great new version of a 20-year-old horror classic. Unlike part 2, however, this time Capcom has, for better or worse, departed from the original game in several ways. It is still a great adventure that is more focused on action than horror. But just like 20 years ago, Resident Evil 3 never reaches the same highs as its predecessor - which on the other hand is not a bad score at all.
  36. Apr 6, 2020
The remake of Resident Evil 3 is, like its predecessor, a technical marvel that through effective use of light, dark and intense resource management builds real, palpable horror. The campaign is unfortunately a bit short, lacking both in puzzles, truly memorable environments and replayability – especially when directly compared to last year's remake of Resident Evil 2. The multiplayer, Resistance, has a lot of good ideas, but needs some balance adjustments before it is truly great.
  37. Apr 4, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is another incredible remake of this classic franchise, and it shows the infamous outbreak of Racoon City in a modern way. However, I finished the whole story campaign in only 6 hours, which is too short for a triple-A single-player game. Besides, as a Resident Evil fan, I expected more in terms of the Boss fight against Nemesis.
  38. Apr 2, 2020
Resident Evil 3 doesn’t quite hit the heights achieved by last year’s reworking of Resident Evil 2 – it fails to gloss over the shortcomings of its forebear. But it is still a well thought-out and nicely executed modern refresh of a survival horror classic – and welcome slab of (almost) escapism to enliven our current house-bound lives.
  39. Mar 31, 2020
We feel like the decision to substitute player freedom with scripted scenes is questionable, even if it was done to maintain the pressure throughout the game. Overall, Resident Evil 3 Remake feels solid, being worth of the time both of the newcomers and old fans alike.
  40. Mar 31, 2020
Capcom does it again. Resident Evil 3 may by shorter and more linear than I'd fancy, but the 7 hours needed to complete the story whizzed by and I was more than content. The game is pretty, interesting and has the one and only - Nemesis. Ah, Nemesis.
  41. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is uncomfortable but exhilarating. There’s a thrill in the danger, like roaming a haunted house or riding a roller coaster.
  42. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a play for our imagination as much as our memory. It understands that the fear we felt long ago didn’t fade; it took root in our brains and mutated into myth. And this is what it might look like.
  43. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 Remake is slightly disappointing after the stellar Resident Evil 2 Remake. It's still a good game, but its short length and lack of ambition mean that it will constantly be seen as the lesser sibling. The addition of the REsistance online mode should add some value for those who enjoy competitive online play, but the lack of single-player options is disappointing. All in all, it's a good follow-up to an amazing game, and as long as you're willing to forgive its foibles, RE3 Remake should be a fun return to Raccoon City for franchise faithfuls.
  44. Mar 30, 2020
Overall, Resident Evil 3's gameplay is solid, fun and thrilling, it's definitely worth playing at some point, but tragically it's all too short lived.
  45. Mar 30, 2020
Capcom has given Resident Evil 3 the same makeover RE2 got in 2019, and although it's still quality fun it's not as impressive the 2nd time around.
  46. 80
Resident Evil 3 is another stunning-looking revamp from Capcom that effortlessly manages to switch between tension-packed moments of genuine horror and bombastic action set pieces. It’s just a shame that some questionable changes were made from the original and there isn’t more bang for your buck in terms of post-completion content.
  47. Mar 30, 2020
While Resident Evil 2 Remake is the better game, Resident Evil 3 still makes for a good time. For those looking to pay a trip to Raccoon City and face off with Nemesis, give it a go.
  48. Mar 30, 2020
Another enjoyable reimagining for the Resident Evil series that nails the action but lacks depth.
  49. Mar 30, 2020
It won't change the way you think about Resident Evil, but Resident Evil 3 is a faithful and thoroughly entertaining retelling of one of the most fondly remembered zombie games ever made. Throw in the replayability and an entirely new game in Resident Evil Resistance, and you've got yourself a title fans will be pining over for some time to come.
  50. Mar 30, 2020
If Resident Evil 3 is still a pretty good game, its content is way too weak and its multiplayer mode can't make up for the loss…Last year's Resident Evil 2 is way better, but the new Nemesis has its undeniable charm.
  51. Mar 30, 2020
The remake of Resident Evil 3 is going to be divisive, just as the original was.
  52. 80
I recognise that Resident Evil and what I want Resident Evil to be are on different trajectories. I still want the series to engage with the horror of being almost out of bullets and surrounded by a hostile world of very dangerous enemies. I also want more of the dry humour of the B-grade that used to define the series, that both indulges the horror while recognising how silly it is. Resident Evil 3 doesn't give me that, and Resident Evil as a series isn't largely interested in indulging it any longer. Which is fine. I can still kick back and enjoy the empty action and cinematic profile of the new take on the series. What's more, I do realise that I'm in the minority in what I want Resident Evil to be and Capcom has delivered more of what the series' larger base of fans want with this remake. Which is fine. Resident Evil 3 is a very, very fine example of what it wants to be, and anyone who loved the Resident Evil 2 remake should be won over all over again with this one.
  53. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a well-made remake of one of the most loved chapters of the famous Capcom series. The Overwhelming presence of the Tyrant Nemesis is an added value but the game suffers from a slight lack of content.
  54. Mar 30, 2020
Despite my disappointment at some aspects of Resident Evil 3 remake, it's far from a bad game. In fact, my biggest issue is that I want more than what's there. Though the story is short, what's there is exhilarating, and it kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I can only imagine how good it would be if Capcom gave it another six months to a year in development, and all the missing features and abridged or cut locations were included.
  55. Mar 30, 2020
I’ve spent the last few thousand words explaining why RE3 isn’t as good as RE2, but it’s still a very good game. It’s like a big, six-hour expansion pack. If you liked last year’s RE2, you would enjoy this. Experienced players will want to give it a go on hardcore, as normal is pretty easy.
  56. Mar 30, 2020
Despite being a title of undoubted breadth, this remake of Resident Evil 3 could have reached a certainly higher quality level.
  57. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 version 2020 works very well. The adventure will delight action fans without sacrificing what makes the soul of the series, its survival horror side. The atmosphere is amazing, oppressive and reinforced by the constant pressure of the Nemesis, which benefits from a much better AI than Mr. X. The RE Engine is more precise and the music plunges us into a nightmarish universe. However, the adventure is quite simple in its confrontations, thanks to new gameplay mechanics, and won't put your brains to the test. The few puzzles are very basic and the weapons and accessories aren't really hidden, making the single-player adventure very short. Still, we're having a great time with Jill and Carlos, and Capcom proves once again the quality of the Resident Evil license.
  58. May 4, 2020
After a stellar remake of an arguably the best Resident Evil game ever made, Capcom has let down our expectations by giving us a more scripted, more linear survival horror action game that will probably be forgotten like so many sequels that have gone the path of less resistance when it comes to game design. RE3 make feels more like a DLC than a full-blown game.
  59. Although Resident Evil 3 Remake is a remarkable game, it is overshadowed by the second game that has had great success last year. The Multiplayer mode Resistance, on the other hand, is unable to deliver exactly what is desired due to its unbalanced gameplay and repetitive nature.
  60. Mar 30, 2020
Fans may not forgive some of the cuts made to the basic story, while newbies will enjoy an epic that is worth a look. Asymmetrical multiplayer mode struggles to convince.
  61. Mar 30, 2020
Instead of modernizing 1999’s Resident Evil 3, Capcom has remodeled 2019’s remake of Resident Evil 2. Dazzling production and clever level design are still effective fuel for the survival horror engine, but this reliance on familiar techniques dissolves any expectation of novelty and ambition. In Resident Evil 3, Jill is less the subject of a despairing escape and more the product of a regulated, orderly departure.
  62. Mar 30, 2020
In the end, Resident Evil 3 suffers from not being as good as its predecessor. It's well-made with likable charismatic protagonists and is quite the roller coaster ride but when compared to the tense full-on survival horror game that preceded it, Resident Evil 3 feels like a step back. Still, if you're a fan and are dying for more, this is a solid game that will undoubtedly scratch that itch.
  63. Mar 30, 2020
This remake is a fun but short experience. The lack of additional content within the campaign did not help. We thought Racoon City deserved a little bit more than this brief revisit.
  64. Mar 30, 2020
A misstep we really were not expecting from a team whose excellence surprised us during all this generation. Resident Evil 3 is short and inferior to Resident Evil 2 Remake in almost every aspect, and its replayability isn't enough to save it, nor is the addition of Project Resistance to the package.
  65. Mar 30, 2020
The remake of Resident Evil 3 imposes a real rhythm and will keep your blood pressure monitor to the maximum throughout the adventure. If the episode from 1999 was already much more action-oriented than its predecessors, here we go even further... The game offers an intense horrific experience; however, it is really very short, it lacks a big part of the original game, and the puzzles that make the DNA of the saga are rare or even completely absent. Besides, there are no real surprises or even bad ones... Beyond the visuals that dazzle the eyes and a Nemesis at the top of its form, we would have appreciated more risk-taking. It's a good survival horror game, but it won’t gain a cult following like the original did.
  66. Apr 14, 2020
Resident Evil 3 proves that you can take a lot of the same mechanics and ideas, but when you implement them into a flawed structure, a lot gets lost in the mix. The 2020 remake lacks the depth, pacing, and general sensibilities of a great survival horror and ends up almost becoming an action game.
  67. Playstation Official Magazine UK
    Apr 20, 2020
Fans need to brace for some disappointment, but that shouldn’t distract from a game that delivers a modern and tonally on-point reworking of Resident Evil 3. [Issue#175, p.73]
  68. Apr 14, 2020
Had it come before Resident Evil 2, perhaps I would have been fonder of it. But as is, it feels like it doesn’t do as much or go as far as its predecessor, an issue exacerbated by the removal of some of its challenging and unique elements. It is worth playing, but people should enter with tempered expectations.
  69. Apr 10, 2020
With Resident Evil 3, Capcom again succeeds in delivering a game that, as a remake, is nearly flawless. The problem is that the original game it is based on was never so great in the first place. And while there’s some fun to be had with multiplayer component, it’s not clear what Capcom’s main focus was for the package as a whole.
  70. Apr 8, 2020
The remake of Resident Evil 3 isn’t a very good survival horror - it actually works much better as a story-driven zombie shooter. The strong female protagonist is maybe too strong, at least as far as the bland bad guy is concerned.
  71. Apr 6, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is lots of fun to play and it improves the original game when it comes to design and gameplay. Unfortunately it is a bit too much like the Resi 2-remake, which makes us long for something new.
  72. Apr 1, 2020
Resident Evil 3 remake is not necessarily bad, but it is absolutely disappointing. Maybe the bar set by RE2 remake was too high, but there is no denying that RE3 remake is not what it should have been. The balance between action and puzzles is gone and RE3 focuses too much on being an action game. Nemesis also appears very briefly, which is a huge disappointment. RE3 is not a bad game, but it's not a classic Resident Evil either.
  73. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a good game that doesn't manage to reach the heights that Resident Evil 2 did. Nemesis has a great new look but he doesn't instill fear like Mr. X did last year. The game is also quite short. Resident Evil Resistance has an interesting concept but suffers from balancing and technical issues.
  74. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 finally repositions its place as not just a true sequel to Resident Evil 2, but as a bridge to Resident Evil 4, both in action and plot. While it streamlines the formula of Resident Evil 2 into something more linear, it's still the best way to dodge through Raccoon City with Jill and Carlos, even with Nemesis always on your tail and the occasional clunkiness here and there. With a breezy runtime, Resident Evil 3 is well worth revisiting. Just maybe not Resident Evil Resistance.
  75. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 had the potential to better its classic predecessor, but a disappointing amount of cut content and the let down that is Nemesis hold it back from greatness. It's still an experience very much worth revisiting, with Raccoon City and the hospital receiving a lot of love and attention, however, it only makes us question what could have been that little bit more.
  76. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is a bit of a disappointment. It’s still a gorgeously spooky time, but one that is marred by an overly brief campaign and a so-so multiplayer component that doesn’t reach the standard we’ve come to expect from Capcom in recent years.
  77. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 Remake ends up frustrating. It's so damn good, but it's disappointingly brief. The game looks stunning and it plays fantastically well, but I've beaten it twice and I don't feel as though my hunger for Resident Evil has been satiated. Certainly, I'd have an even more bitter taste in my mouth had I paid $60, which ultimately makes it hard to recommend at full price to those outside the Resident Evil hardcore.
  78. Mar 30, 2020
The source material already had its problems, but this disappointing remake manages to make Resident Evil 3 seem even less inspired than it did originally.
  79. LEVEL (Czech Republic)

Even though it is a very successful game, you will feel a little disappointed. Compared to the remake of the second game, this one often loses its pace and it is impossible to get rid of the impression that there could and should have been more to this game. [Issue#303]
  80. Edge Magazine
    May 21, 2020
All we can say is that six hours of Resident Evil 3 is just enough - and we're aware that's both compliment and curse. [Issue#346, p.88]
  81. Apr 2, 2020
As a remake, Resident Evil 3 not only falls short of honoring its source, but it also doesn't quite stick the landing as a standalone horror experience. Even without taking into account the original game, or its predecessor, RE3 struggles to keep up with its pace amid a clashing of elements from survival horror and standard action. While it has a strong start and gives its principal villain some great moments, this truncated retelling of the concluding game from the original Resident Evil trilogy doesn't do it proper justice.
  82. Mar 31, 2020
The element of fear that Resident Evil is known for isn’t as fully baked into the mechanics of this remake as it could have.
  83. Mar 30, 2020
It’s still worth playing, but Resident Evil 3 Remake is a step backwards for Capcom, coming off the back of one of the best games of last year. It’s gorgeous to look at, the jump scares will get you, and it’s like stepping into a comfy pair of slippers. But even though your feet are cosy, it never feels like home.

  1. Mar 30, 2020
The Resident Evil 3 remake, like the original upon which it is based, is inferior to its predecessor.
  2. Mar 30, 2020
Resident Evil 3 is loud. It is a snarling dog too close to your face, spittle flying everywhere. For some players, the intensity will be a turn off. The original version is the link between the earlier games’ simmering spookiness and Resident Evil 4’s bold action. It marked the first step in a tonal shift that arguably went too far: As the series progressed, the action grew too excessive. The remake threads a spectacular needle. The explosive boss fights and ever-present cat and mouse chases never feel out of place. Windows shatters as the zombie horde bursts in, giant lizards swallow you whole, and the Nemesis slams down behind you at the worst moment. The terror doesn’t fade simply because you have an assault rifle or grenade launcher. Resident Evil 3 solidifies a new model for the remakes. It takes last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake and hones it into something meaner and more intense. Embracing the chaos leads to an intense and confidently executed Resident Evil experience.
  3. Mar 30, 2020
Were it not for the high expectations set by Resident Evil 2, Capcom’s similarly lavish remake of Resident Evil 3 would stand out as a gorgeous example of a survival horror game lovingly and painstakingly reimagined. At times it manages to be exactly that, modernizing the story of Jill Valentine’s escape from a zombie-ravaged Raccoon City crafted with amazing production values. But the shadow of its very recent predecessor looms so large as to overshadow it. Like last year’s game, Resident Evil 3 is a great example of what a video game remake should be. It’s just that the source material is a little less impressive this time around — and so is the end result.

Truthfully, there aren’t a lot of surprises of any kind in Resident Evil 3. It’s like an especially polished DLC campaign—think Resident Evil 2.5. Again, though, that’s mostly true too of the fan-favorite sequel it’s spit-shining. Back in ’99, Nemesis didn’t just mark the moment that this series started to tweak its infamously (if fruitfully) punishing tank controls, giving gamers the option to fight instead of flee and tilting the ratio of horror to action in the latter’s favor. It was also the first time a Resident Evil game looked a little formulaic, offering variations on stock elements.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is as excellent as it is scary, and it is very scary. Take it from someone who doesn't scare easily - Capcom pushed the boat out on making this one pure paranoia fuel...While the zombies can sometimes be annoying, the overall experience is just as good as Resident Evil 2, which was already amazing, and adds more tension. Also, the new Jill Valentine is just too darn likable.

Resident Evil 3 is an entertaining, well-made game that brings one of the series’s less-heralded entries right up to date. But almost everything it does right was part of Resident Evil 2 as well, and many of that game’s qualities are no longer present. Overall, the package is a lot less appealing. It feels more like an expansion to 2 than an entirely new game. That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth playing, but it does mean you should know what you’re getting into before pulling the trigger

It’s not bad enough to hate and not good enough to praise. That’s disappointing for two reasons. The remake of Resident Evil 2 was excellent, and the Mr. X encounters suggested that Capcom could update Resident Evil 3 and do something interesting and innovative with Nemesis. Instead, Capcom chose the most boring path possible.

They cut so much content from the original game. Pretty much all the puzzles do not exist in this game. Nemesis is as scary as a wet towelThey cut so much content from the original game. Pretty much all the puzzles do not exist in this game. Nemesis is as scary as a wet towel and useless. He only shows up during scripted events. I manage to beat this game just under 5 hours. This game was clearly rushed after how well RE2 did. Full Review »
