Shing! is fresh take on an old genre. This arcade-style hack and slasher has an interesting control system and great presentation. It might not be for everyone but we really enjoyed it.

If you'd have told me before I played Shing! that I would like a control scheme that see's you launch combo attacks with an analogue stick, I would have karate chopped your kidney in anger. Ultimately, you would have been right. It's a control scheme that innovates, is accessible and offers a degree of combo flexibility not seen in more traditional beat 'em ups. In a stellar year for nostalgic side-scrolling beat 'em ups, Shing! is a new IP that absolutely demands your attention.

Shing! is a beat ’em up with a few good ideas and facets to admire. While many of its ambitions aren’t executed in the best of ways, Shing! serves as a decent distraction with friends. Its four-player cooperation, competent if iffy combat, and polished art style make it an okay journey for its humble several hours of playtime.

The art style, combat and humour make for a highly entertaining experience for anyone interested in a co-op experience with a retro brawler feel. Despite not having the same single player appeal and a couple of short comings this time round, Shing! is a promising new IP that can only improve its formula for future iterations.

I wish that Shing! stuck with traditional controls because it offers a fantastic campaign but the controls make it much less fun.

All in all, Shing! is a fast-paced, fun – at times – side-scroller with incredible moments of art and design. Occasionally, it will give you a couple of giggles with its silly humor but is generally dampened due to the immaturity of its narrative and character arcs. Both the immense amount of bugs and its combat system are its own worst enemies and need a lot of adapting before it can be a beat ’em up worth talking about.

It tries something new and it is not just a gimmick , there is real nuance to the combat rarely seen in this style of game. The setting and combat reminds me of "Muramassa Blade" on the Wii, these games are quite different but they draw similarities with the beautiful setting and new way of control. "Shings" combat has you using the right stick for sword attacks and shoulder button for Block , dodges parries and jumping. At first it is a bit awkward but as the muscle memory kicks in you are soon pulling off ever increasingly impressive attacks. Combat requires precision timing, the right moves at the right times and as you start to learn how the stroke of the control stick works with the slice of you blade attacks become more effective and do more damage. Its a process of learning visual ques and reacting. You can not button mash through this game while progress just happens, this may turn more casual gamers off who are used to switching their brains off with similar types of games and that is a shame.
The other excellent part of SHING is surprisingly the writing and characters. These are not the safe PC friendly Saturday cartoon characters you would expect. The dialogue is mature and not afraid of being offensive, just like the old days. It is sometimes a bit cheesy but also often very funny.

Finally the game is beautiful, I am not a fan of the big character heads, but that is about it. Overall the character designs are great, cool warrior dudes and sexy ninjas chicks who dose not like that. Well I guess these modern day games journalists do seem to find females being represented as attractive to be offensive, but if your not one of them, check this game out.
I will be keeping an eye on this developer "Mass Creations" After this game. With good funding and the right backing I think this is a promising studio, I hope they go far.

I played the game with my brother and his girlfriend - it's fun, and you can send kisses with one of the characters!

This game is one of worst games I have ever played in my life. The developers should **** kill themselves for releasing this trash.
