A puzzle-platform in which you can’t jump might seem like an odd idea but Snake Pass reveals itself as a great game despite some rough edges and a sometimes ruthless difficulty.

Control difficulties aside, Snake Pass is one of the most unique games I’ve played in a long time and can be incredibly rewarding. Successfully slithering and curling around bamboo and other obstacles feels really great and makes traversing the world a lot of fun. There are absolutely moments of frustration, but not enough to overshadow what is otherwise a really unique and fun adventure.

Snake Pass is a fun and original gameplay experiment that works well to offer us a good and charming exploration game.

A great concept with a perfect mix of retro modern gameplay and aesthetics, even if the idea never evolves to have real legs.

A fiddly one to get to grips with, stick with Snake Pass and everything will eventually click. When it does, it's a decent platformer that should raise a smile or two. [June 2017, p.82]

While Snake Pass looks and sounds like a 3D platformer of old, the ‘think like a snake’ idea that the gameplay is built around makes it a game that will influence platformers of the future. The puzzle is the movement, and since that movement is so fun and engaging, it makes for enjoyable experience, even if the unreliable camera makes it more frustrating than it should be.

Put the time into it and get used to its unconventional controls and it’ll eventually wriggle its way into your heart. [July 2017, p72]

I got the switch version, and playing it on a plane or in bed or in docked mode, it's extremely fun. It's an amazing game to go with zelda, when you need a break, don't go outside, just play Snake Pass!!

Lovely visuals, world and music. I feel people have become accustomed to boring tutorials that hold your hand through the first 25 mins of the game. This is some straight-to-the-point challenging action and I love it. Music is fantastic too (David Wise ftw!). Picked it up for less than 4€ on PSN. Quite the steal. Expand

The controls were easy to pick up, leading me to wonder why so many reviewers mention problems with difficult controls and snake movement. The only issue I found that somewhat bothered me, was Noodle's slow movement.
All in all, I was glad I purchased it.

It's just so unique and such a joy to traverse the environments with. That said, the difficulty, combined with the gaps between checkpoints, is too much for me. Game is insanely hard if you want to try to 100% it. A quicksave, while on solid ground, would make this game so much better so that you don't have to travel all the way to your goal and back again (with just the slightest, slippery mis-calculation ending your life). I think I'm pretty much done with this frustration till, hopefully, a reasonable checkpoint system gets patched in.

-edit- Update Oct 2017 - I kept my original review above, but I feel I was a bit harsh on it. I pushed on, and eventually mastered the controls fully. The game is certainly a challenge, but with practice you'll get your head around the controls and then it becomes much more enjoyable. The checkpoint system is fair once you get the hang of things. It really is quite lovely and charming to playthrough, and I ended up being able to 100% the game. Bumped my original score of 6 to an 8.

Did have a chat with one of the developers afterwards, and gave an initial opinion of it over to them. At the time, i thought it was a fun, yet different type of puzzle game than i'm used to. So, i saw it on PS Store a few weeks ago for 20% off at pre-order. Decided to give it a go.

Controls are certainly something to get used to, but they are fun. You move forward, use the control stick to slither to gain speed and raise your head to start climbing posts and obstacles. Yes, there are only 15 levels in-game. But these levels do pose their own challenges as you attempt to collect everything in each level. They start easy, and then get more challenging as you progress through. And you unlock a time trial mode after completing, which adds more replay-ability to it.

Overall, it can be frustrating with the snake controlling, but it's a fun game none the less.

Oh, and did i mention that the music is composed by David Wise?

    Flaws:
    - The camera is HORRIFYING! There is no way they thought the camera was done correctly. It bounces all over like an old N64 game!

    - Although I did mention below in my "pros" that the controls are unique, at times they feel.. i guess you could say unbalanced and inaccurate.

    - Unskippable cutscenes (this was frustrating especially if you replay levels for trophies)

    Things I did enjoy:
    - The uniqueness of controlling a snake, though it was frustrating as hell to learn.
    - The cheerful graphics/environments/characters..you get the point. It was cute. :)

I would only recommend getting this for $10 or less. (I would have waited for it to be around $5 on the PS store during a sale had I known I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as I was hoping)
