Steep is the perfect mountain simulator, with a perfect balance between a proper physics engine and an arcade and immediate, funny feeling.

Steep is a fresh breath. Fun, frantic and innovative, manages to combine the thrills of illustrious predecessors in the genre, like the SSX series, with more modern formulas.

Steep is a solid experience that accomplishes what the developers set out to do. They have a created an impressive world that is both fun to explore and addictive to conquer. The multiplayer feels like a bit of a letdown due to a lack of variety but it is still fun exploring the world with friends.

The developers deserve credit for trying something different instead of just being another SSX clone. If you are willing to fully embrace and appreciate what makes Steep unique, namely its take on group play, the ability to create your own authentic looking videos, and freedom to explore a mountain at your own pace, your trip to the Alps will have been one worth taking.

Taking “Steep” as just a fine foundation for eventual sequel would be a little unfair, but in some way, it fits. Yet the free riding in a huge open world can entertain you for a few hours, if you can turn a blind eye to a handful of nonsense and bugs.

Steep has a great potential, but does not take advantage of it. Is funny and exciting, but a bit repetitive and simple too.

Featuring systems that focus on community engagement and competition among friends, there are some clever new ideas that haven’t been seen in games before. Still, Steep falls short where it matters most, offering you more moments of anger than adrenaline. If you have plenty of patience then this might be the game for you, though most will end up pissed off rather than going off-piste.

I love cruising around the Mountain with absolutly no Loading Times and just relax while taking in the beauty of the Mountain ( which looks absolutly gorgeous on PS4 Pro ). Dont get me wrong i like myself an SSX to, but i dont mind to have something on the smoother Side with less Finger Acrobatic involved. Absolutly love this game. Expand

in these past 3 months, the game fixed a lot of the initial bugs and glitches from the release date, making the overall experience even better today. i recommend this game for everyone that is a winter sports fan.

I can play for hours on end, just riding around and not even playing the challenges (which are fun too). It has all of the ingredients of a great game: open, challenging, and deeply satisfying to perfect. If you enjoyed the Skate games, you will love this game. It could be even better if you could grind rails, but I don't think that brings it down too much. Expand

Seamless mountain, fully online, yet no obvious reason to group with strangers, which makes in the end the game being a solo fun experience (unless you do have friends to play with)

I wish the tricks were more elaborate in every discipline, and that the piloting of the wingsuit and the parapente were more complex.

But it is fun, fresh and truly smooth. My first session was two hours long, and i was surprised to play that much in the first place.

The game-play is somewhat similar to the Trials games and Pilotwings, in that it mostly consists of challenges to complete. However there is a little bit more to this game, it has elements of exploration and 2 rather large areas to play in. The best part of the game is probably it's graphics which are stunning and the complete absence of loading apart from the initial loading of the map. Any change in position of your character on the map is almost instant.

Some other positives first, I like the somewhat "realistic" elements to skiing and snowboarding in that you really have to manage your speed and energy especially when the terrain is steep.
The controls for skiing and snowboarding works great, it's easy to learn but hard to master (Skiing and snowboarding are identical from a game-play and control-scheme perspective).
Other than snowboarding and skiing two free flying sports are available wing-suit-flying and paragliding. Wing-suit-flying is in my opinion the most fun and challenging part of the game with some truly brutal lines to complete. The controls for the wing-suit work well although I wish it didn't tend to nosedive so much when you release the stick to a neutral position.

And now we come to the PARAGLIDING part. Paragliding is a sport I do in real life, and I was really hoping that a dev-team based in Annecy (The paragliding Mecca of the world) would do this sport justice. But sadly NO. Paragliding is a very exiting and challenging sport in real life, but in the game sadly NO. I'm now gonna tell you what is wrong with the paragliding part of the game. When flying in real life you will mainly use two types of rising air to stay in the air longer, one is called a thermal which is a bubble of hot air rising trough the atmosphere (riding a thermal I can only describe as rodeo of the sky, it is extremely exiting). However in the game this type of rising air is absent and this just makes paragliding lacking since this is probably the main type of rising air you will use to fly a paraglider in real life. The other type of rising air is called ridge lift which is modeled in the game. Ridge lift is created on the windward side of a hill or mountain as the wind is forced up and over the mountain . In the game this is modeled very simplistic, this is how it works in the game. The steeper the terrain and the closer you are flying to it the more lift you will get. But there is no global wind direction or any wind of any kind for that matter, there is just ghost lift the closer you get to steep terrain. A global and changing wind direction would have been great for this part of the game because it would have made paragliding a lot more tactical in that you would have to stay on the windward side of the mountain to get lift instead of getting it just from being close to a cliff.
The controls for paragliding in the game are abysmal and almost as far from the real thing you can get. Sure turning left and right and pulling back on the stick without holding the stunt button down looks ok. When pushing the stick forward the glider dives, this is impossible in real life. Had I designed this game pushing forward on the stick would have activated the speed-bar making you go faster instead of diving in the ugliest and most unrealistic fashion possible. To make a real paraglider point it's nose down you will have to sustain a sharp turn for a few seconds and smile like crazy as the g-forces build up, this is called a spiral dive, and this is impossible in the game (In a spiral dive a force of 4g is quite common). In real life it is possible to do some crazy amazing stunts with a paraglider using the pendulum effect of a paraglider, by alternating left and right brake inputs you can build up the swing under the paraglider so much that it will eventually loop. However in the game this is impossible since the pendulum effect isn't modeled at all.

Conclusion; If you want a game about skiing, this is the best game in the genre that I have played. If you want a wing-suit game this game is one of the best in the genre, however somewhat unrealistic.
If you want a game about flying a paraglider this is NOT it (Try "Paragliding Simulator" by Asynchron.at for android instead, it has a paraglider that responds almost like the real thing.
    I give the game 6/10 because;
    +Graphichs
+Game engine is really fast (almost no loading-time)
    +Fun and interesting ski/snowboard game
    *Ok wing-suit
    -Extremely unrealistic and boring paragliding
-No character progression other than cosmetic upgrades.
-Dev-team is based in Annecy and failed on paragliding, really?

Had the paragliding worked I would probably give the game 8/10

It's amazing fun to batwing down the mountains barely skimming above the rocks swerving in and around obstacles. The play area, not including the coming DLC Alaska, is GIGANTIC and if you're into exploration and winter sports, Steep is a game that will endlessly entertain you.

I must, however, give Steep poor marks. I simply can't give a game that is multiplayer based anything above a 4 if the multiplayer aspect of the game is total garbage. Once again Ubi has failed in the implementation of multiplayer. Given over 40 hours of game play I can say categorically that it's nearly impossible to stay connected with more than 1 other friend online for more than about 10 minutes.

Ubi's response to such disconnections is the predictable "open these ports" or "put your PS4 in the DMZ" or "check your NAT" or some such other useless advice. Ubi needs to look inward and find out why their games are the only AAA games that have truly horrible connection issues that never get fixed.
