It’s extremely charming, and completely captures the Iyashikei ‘slice-of-life genre, particularly in the personality of the town’s characters and how they interact with one another, yet also beckon you into that same world.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Pioneers of Olive Town. It may have the odd technical issue yet it makes up for that with a solid variety of items to collect and create, many rewarding skills to level up, and new gameplay elements to enjoy.
I almost skipped PoOT because of the negative reviews.
I'm glad I decided to give it a chance. One of the best games I ever played.
The game seems to have had serious problems when launched, but I honestly didn't notice anything that bothered me. A bit of loading between farm and town, but you usually go there once or twice in a day, and it's nothing too absurd.
Some small framerate issues on some places (probably much smoother on PC), but again nothing that would break the enjoyment.
And I really liked the characters, chats, cutscenes. Seems more like normal people on a normal small town (I loved Rune Factory 4, but characters behaviours are too exaggerated for me).
I'm really enjoying the game and created this account just to review it. If you had read some bad reviews and have doubts about it, most of those were written before the latest patches.
The game is incredible, and if you played and liked FoMT, you will love it.
After Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town I was expecting a similar experience (a poor game) but 80 hours later I can confirm this game is really fun to play. The progression system is really well designed, so you have always a new craft to make, a crop to harvest, clean and pave your farm, etc.
I played a lot of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons entries and this is the first time I've been able to marry and finish the game.
It seems the game had a bad reception, but try it first by yourselves and you'll see it gets you hooked.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is a fulfilling and satisfying farming simulation experience perfect for those looking to grow a few virtual potatoes while also scratching an itch for exploration.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is a promising start of a new chapter in the long-running farm/life simulator’s history. All the pieces are in place for an unforgettable experience, with its peaceful and serene location, endlessly customizable landscape, and an unprecedented abundance of crafts and projects to pursue. While at times unwieldy, there’s something for everyone here, especially those who are interested in the organization and production management aspect of running a farm.
This game made some really strange choices, and I can't say that I agree with all of them. And, to that end, I feel like some of you out there will end up feeling that way as well. You'll still be able to find all of the traditional SoS garnishings within Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town if you're willing to dig deep enough—just be prepared to do a whole lot of crafting along the way.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town has the potential to be the best entry in the Story of Seasons series. Sadly, the combination of major and minor bugs, including frame rate dips on the farm itself, severely decreases gameplay enjoyment. There has been one pre-launch update and further updates are on the way. This will hopefully address some of the issues encountered and maybe even allow active participation in more of the events. It is still a fun experience so long as the noted problems can be tolerated. There is a huge variety of animals and crops to tend to, fantastic range in character customisation, and the usual aspects of a Story of Seasons title that long-time fans have come to love.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is a surprisingly dull and lifeless farm-sim that's a shadow of its storied self. We’re left with caricatures and a game that shows only the slightest hint of recognizing what makes a fun gameplay loop.
I love this game. A unique, cozy, old-school style.
If you like farm management games, you are going to love this one. It is true that it had a few bugs but currently with the patches everything is fixed. They will also improve the dialogs for free in the latest patch that they will release. Thus leaving a complete game without negative points.
I think that after this game the franchise will only get better.
It was a cozy game. I liked it better than the original Story of Seasons on the 3ds. I appreciated the little vietnamese family. I thought that was a cool addition to the game.
I didn't like that there weren't character icons during the dialogue. And it was annoying that I had to have so many machines because of capacity (like making the ores).
I didn't feel that drawn to decorating or making my farm look nice. But I did enjoy making everything, as you usually do with these sorts of games.
Characters weren't that memorable in my opinion.
Pros:
- Smooth/attractive graphics
- Solid movement and interaction
Cons: - Bland, flavorless town and characters
Not a single NPC has an interesting personality. Several of them have distinct appearances, but not the majority. I can’t really tell the difference between four of the male romance options, and the fifth one is a generic ~*~ Traditional/Ye Olde Japanese ~*~ NPC. All that any of them will talk about in the beginning is how much they want more tourists. Coming on the heels of replaying Trio of Towns, this was a complete shock. Unfortunately bought on Switch, so no refunds.
SummaryInspired by tales of their grandfather's pioneering days, the protagonist decides to pack their bags and leave the hustle and bustle of big city life for the frontier in Olive Town.
When they arrive, they run into Victor, the town's mayor and their grandfather's old friend. He brings them to the old farm, which has been reclaimed by ...
