Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is, at the very least, a serviceable co-op brawler infused with plenty of fun nods for longtime TMNT fans. However, its high price-point, lack of couch co-op, and repetitive gameplay are hard to ignore, making it a game which is best bought at a drastically reduced price.

Fighting, moving, and pulling off cooperative attacks as the Turtles is enjoyable, but it’s difficult to find fun in the world and routine in which they exist.

Completed in under 5 hours, with sloppy gameplay and no challenge whatsoever, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan looks more like a merchandising product for the movie than a real thought-out game.

The first 15 minutes looked promising with an interesting combat system sealed by the Platinum Games experience, the rest of the game is half cooked with random, repetitive and boring elements that leaves this new Turtle’s adventure as a game that you will not have to play.

A disappointing experience. Confounds the simple things with the annoying mechanics. Far away from the great games of the turtles and the excellence of the Japanese developers. Platinum Games are human too.

The end result is a cluttered mess that constantly tries to keep you active with something, anything at random, in order to distract you from the poor design.

The developers veer beyond the cartoonish nature of the TMNT television series and straight into the absurd.

Each Turtle feels different Mikey's fast but doesn't hit as hard as the others for example. Traversing the levels is a blast grinding on rails and using a parachute like shell to glide ,climbing buildings swinging around poles etc. It's obvious a lot of love when into this game each characters dialogue fits them perfectly. The Boss fights have some hidden surprises and takes a bit of thought to take each of them down dodging at the right time etc. Not going to say there the most strategic boss encounters but fun none the less
Don't believe the it's only 3-4 hours, The only way you're clearing this game that fast if your playing on easy and rushing through it. My friends and I spent over 2 hours alone completing the first level on the hardest difficulty.
The game does not offer couch co-op( online multi-player only which sucks for anyone looking to play at home with friends /family
For me personally that wasn't a big issue but I agree it should've had it.

First the story is about an alien invasion by general krang helped by shredder who will open a portal to another dimension and set rule on the world. The turtles must set out to stop krang and shredder. Now to the game; the gameplay is your typical hack n slash, button touch and combos. cool! right? but with upgrade skill leveling automated and be able to only switch characters for different levels or if you die within in the level it will automatically switch to another character is a downfall, I rather be able to pick which turtle i’am after i die. The missions are short and the bosses have no challenging factor giving that you have 5 lives for the whole game in which every turtle has to die in order for you to lose a life. Thats suck? Not at all it’s an easy game. However, the comic like graphics are pretty cool and color scheme for the combat is pretty neat, given that the game is a drag and really really short and has poor level design. Besides my rant; multiplayer with your friends is the way to go, playing alone can get old (well not really with how short the missions are) but this is not worth your money unless your looking for quick game for you and your friends to play. 6.7/10 Expand

It's got the fan service thanks to it's roster of familiar TMNT bad guys and allows you to play as four turtles on the fly. However the execution here is just off. The story is bland, but there's some humorous turtle banter to keep you from skipping the cutscenes.

The gameplay is a jumbled, thrown together mess. With all four turtles being onscreen at the same time the action is just too cluttered. I often found myself losing track of the turtles I was playing as. In their previously lackluster games, like The Legend of Korra for example, even when everything else was falling short Platinum at least created an enjoyable combat system to back things up. That isn't the case here.

It's not actually bad, but there's no reason to do anything more than button mash. It's not a challenging game at all, especially since the other turtles are always around to back you up. I have to praise their AI. You aren't just babysitting the brothers here. They are completely competent on their own and do a great job of having your back.

The co-op aspect of the game is also appreciated. It's online-only, but getting together with some buddies can make bring a few hours of laughs before the credits roll, and I do mean only a few hours. This isn't a lengthy game at all and I breezed through it in no time.

Almost the whole experience follows a simple formula. You're dropped off into a semi-open area and play randomized missions until the boss shows up. These boss fights are the meat of the game. The rest of the stuff just feels like filler to extend the length of the game. The bosses themselves require no more strategy then the regular, bland enemies. Just blow your way through them mashing buttons. It's cool to see some familiar faces though.

It also helps that these faces look good. The environments are a little bland, but the characters themselves look great. It definitely looks like a TMNT show or comic book. However the bright and colorful cell-shaded graphics only add to the visual noise of the gameplay. Much of the action isn't just obscured by the other characters, but by the bright flashes of color as well.

Given that it's so short, Platinum tried to add some replay value. They did so with the pre-boss fight missions being random and throwing some secret boss fights a second time around. However both efforts are kind of lackluster. The missions themselves might be different, but they all follow the same handful of types. The secret boss battles basically just come down to one of them being joined by another character. I personally didn't fin the experience fun enough the first time around to bother with a second playthrough. I imagine many will feel the same way.

PlatinumGames falls into the familiar licensed game trapping with this one. Gone is the sense of originality and innovation that made their original IPs so darn good. It's rushed, thrown together, and all around sloppy. It's got some minor thrills thanks to the license, and there's a certain mindless appeal to slicing through cool villains brainlessly pushing buttons and firing off rechargeable special attacks. Bringing together some friends can make for a lazy afternoon gaming session. However none of that changes the fact that Platinum didn't really try with this one. They just slapped their name and the TMNT brand on a mediocre product. Even hardcore TMNT fans should give this one a hard pass.
