If you enjoyed the first game because of the story, characters and relationships, this game is not for you. Due to some questionable story-line choices, the game feels like a slog to get through and tries to force its players into a middle school ethics class rather than engross us in an enthralling story. The graphics are some of the best this generation, but the game-play rarely features anything innovative and feels like more of the same as the first game. Overall, averaging everything out I would give this game a 5/10 and similar to Game of Thrones season 8 and Star Wars - Rise of Skywalker, this is one sequel that will sorely disappoint even its most loyal fans.

All I'm going to say is, what were they thinking with this game.
The way Sony and ND handled the backlash against the spoilers made it even worse.

I'm editing this after seeing the full game, and i think, i still don't like how the developers did, ND in general, and some of the issues with the story, but overall, i can't say i felt goosebumps in some parts, and that it made me think a lot. I felt like Abby was the best part of the game, even if some interactions are made in a way to kind of force you to see her as a good person, i still think it woks.
I just hope ND learns how to treat their employees and in the future, maybe people will be less hateful about the game they haven't even experienced.

The game spends its entirety destroying the characters you knew from the first game. The only thing about Joel that even slightly resembles the character we love is his character model.

The AI feels like it belongs in a game from 2014, and the secondary main character moves like a GTA IV character.
The gameplay feels like its half a decade old, disappointingly the moments you find yourself actually feeling challenged and enjoying an encounter usually turn out to be entirely scripted, meaning you spend 20 minutes fighting a "mini boss" just to realize the only reason the encounter was difficult at all is because you are meant to lose regardless of how you perform. doesn't exactly feel rewarding to find out you would've gotten the same ending to a fight if you didnt touch your controller and let the monster beat you in 3 seconds.

All in all this game is a massive disappointment to anyone expecting a true attempt to continue the beloved story, this game shouldn't even be considered TLOU2, its essentially a new IP that reuses assets, names and voice actors.

Character logic and decision-making is often sacrificed in order to push a certain idea or themes–or at the worst of times, the plot– which in the process makes the story seem significantly more absurd than it should; furthermore, there are a few instances of character development built up in the last game only to be completely ignored in this one. I feel that the game both tried and almost succeeded yet ultimately failed at attempting to make me sympathize with certain characters who had done truly horrible things. In the end, it is your typical revenge plot with the cliche of all violence is bad; nothing new or bold happens other than a grotesque amount of violence. It is by no means the worst game of the year, but it also is nowhere near the outstanding achievement that many people are making it out to be. Expand

If you're simply looking to play this game for the gameplay then you will thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Unfortunately that's not what most people are looking for in this game. Unlike the gameplay and visuals I can not give the storytelling the same level of praise.

The Last of Us Part II makes incredibly strange choices in storytelling that constantly made me want to quit and put my controller down. The majority of new additional characters are incredibly unlikeable and/or flat out boring yet the game wants to try and force them down your throats when you'd rather they just get killed off. That added on by the fact that they feel like replacements for characters you'd already grown to love from the first game.

This is coming from somebody who thoroughly loved the first game, if you've come to experience another incredibly emotional journey and the continuation of Ellie and Joel's story then I'm sorry to say that you'll be incredibly disappointed.

Two hours in and was deeply disappointed already. I got to the ending and It's crap. Stupid decisions made by smart characters and shoehorning characters into the story that didn't even matter in the first game. Too many things feel forced and it ruins the enjoyment. 7 years for a let down.

You expect me to play as some random girl put into the story because of some random NPC after doing what she did? Also in TLOU1 it was a completely different NPC looking guy. No thanks. You also expect me to fight a main character of the last game and leave her in a pool of blood? Are you insane? Terrible writing. Abby gets kidnapped and weakened. Ellie doesn't even get her revenge correctly and it's completely out of character. She helps them escape. The last thing she could've done to even make a TINY redemption to the game is kill Lev and Abby. No we don't even get that. We get something out of character. They escape.

This is at best a fanfiction. Will be returning this title. The leaks saved people money. I'm telling you to save your money too. In short, a poor story of constant revenge that has NO meaning and insults the whole fanbase. Biggest let down of the GENERATION. At least on the brightside the moments of Ellie and Joel are good and the gameplay but anything with Abby isn't worth jack.

The Last Of Us Part II, grabs this concept, especially in the trailers selling the game that we will see the continuation of this premise, but in the end was all a manipulation from the marketing team, and probably in the future will have some legal repercussions.

It's true that every human being has different points of view, but for me it's unthinkable what they did to the story of this sequel. Some people are defending it was bold and risky, but for me was a simple act of butchering one of the most acclaimed franchises of the Playstation family.

In the end this game could be a 9 or a 10 if it wasn’t a sequel, but that not being the case, I think it’s the first big disappointment from Naughty Dog, for that my score only reflects the hard work and crunching from everyone involved and actors, because they don’t deserve the hate of the choices that were made by the story board department.

The Last of Us part 2 esnobou seu principal aspecto, uma historia incrível e bem contada. The Last of Us part 2 evoluiu bastante tecnicamente e retrocedeu 2x mais no seu principal aspecto, a história. Expand

An opening note about "review bombing": take a look at the positive reviews. See how many of the reviews don't go beyond a paragraph, or even a sentence? And in addition, that ten is the only review on that account? This is my first review, but I've tried to be as fair as possible, since I feel something needs to be said about how rhis all was handled. A large portion of the negative or mixed reviews are well-written criticisms of the game by fans of the series, while many of the 10s don't even mention a thing about the game itself. Don't review the game until you've finished it? I highly doubt all the positive reviewers have played the game through, either. Is "review bombing" justified when it's positive? Even if it's being done to counteract the backlash, it's still highly disingenuous and doesn't help the cause in the long run. With gaming journalists constantly being strong-armed into giving AAA titles high scores, honesty is becoming a precious commodity. The score disparity means something is wrong. The game has its good points, but it is definitely not flawless. Neither side is innocent. Look for yourself and think critically before blindly pushing your own narrative.

    With that said, the review.

The game looks, feels, and sounds amazing. There's no denying that. The graphics are breathtaking, and I'd say that aesthetically speaking, the game is unlike anything else on the console, pushing the PS4 to its absolute limits. A fitting sendoff, in light of the PS5's approaching release. The sound design is haunting, the musical score, environment, and enemies all sound incredible. This all ties together to paint possibly the most realistic and immersive picture of post-apocalyptic America I’ve ever seen. Play it on the biggest screen you have, wear headphones, and enjoy.

In terms of gameplay, it's good. It builds upon the established formula, refining it into a smooth and enjoyable stealth-action gameplay loop, tried and true. However, I wouldn't say it's game-changing, especially in comparison to its predecessor. TLOU brought us an entirely new experience, heart-pounding and suspenseful in a way that transformed the zombie genre. TLOU2 is equally exhilarating, but I wouldn't say it breaks any significant ground that its predecessor hadn't already. As a standalone game, it's excellent. As a sequel to the first game, which made me fall in love with the genre, it's just a tad disappointing.

Now, the story and characters. What the vast majority of reviews, me included, find issue with. I won’t get into detail about major plot points in order to keep this review friendly to those who haven’t played the game yet.

The way the story unfolds is confusing, forgettable, and downright infuriating at points. I think the idea was great; however, the order that it’s presented to you only made me less invested as the game went on. It retcons beloved characters, doing complete 180s on their personalities in ways that go beyond subversion into alien-skinsuit territory. The new characters that the game attempted to make me emphasize with were unlikable for multiple reasons, even to the point where I would take more risks in combat, not valuing their lives as highly. felt detached from the characters and uninvested in the story; so, why play the game?

All in all, TLOU2 would have been a great game, were it not a sequel. However, it is a sequel. It can’t be judged purely on its own merit. The graphics are incredible, the gameplay is great, but the story falls short. And that’s the issue. TLOU established itself as a narratively-driven game, a story about forging bonds and finding the good in a brutally unforgiving world. TLOU2 is a revenge story that beats you while you’re down and leaves you empty by its conclusion. Perhaps that was the point. Subversion isn’t a bad thing in itself. It can be a powerful tool, where betraying established expectations can create an experience more powerful than before. However, there’s a difference between subversion and indiscriminately breaking down aspects of a beloved series for the shock factor. The marketing seemed to double down on this idea, the trailers promising an entirely different game than what you ultimately buy. It’s shocking, but not in a good way.

The Last of Us should have been the last entry in the series. Go play that, wait for this to go on sale or pre-owned, and save yourself some cash.

Every gameplay mechanic is improved and built upon. I found stealth to be more enjoyable. Every encounter is different. It is a semi-open linear world, so there are multiple paths you can take where you might or might not encounter certain enemies. NPC (unlike previous games) have names and react when one of their fellow mates get killed. The game is gruesome and violent but that is to be expected given the current state of the world in the Last of Us. It's also amazing what Naughty dog has achieved graphically on a PS4 Pro where the game is running on 1440p@30fps.

Unfortunately, on the other hand, the story has left me with a lot to desire. The first few hours feel rushed and questionable, however, I thought this would lead to an ending not possible without taking this direction. However, the ending has to be one of the worst game endings of a AAA game in recent memory. Character-wise it makes no sense. I don't want to post any spoilers so I will say this. "It can't all be for nothing" would describe part I. "It was all for nothing" would describe part II.

    The game is beautiful .

The gameplay is okay and repetitive.

    The story is really bad.

The maximum price I'd have wasted on this product is $30, for the exact half of the game where I was enjoying the gameplay, not the $60.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disappointing from what I expected. Gameplay while sometimes repetitive, can be fun (surprisingly while playing as Abby). I see what they were trying to do but they could’ve done it so much better and maybe in a less jumbled up way. Graphics are fantastic it’s the story however that was bad. Ellie and Dina, ok pretty cool. Joel dying, not as cool as I’d have wanted it but he had to die. Abby, cool story getting pushed but falls flat most times, forcing you to empathize with her and hate Ellie and Joel. The game, right off the bat, makes you hate Abby and nothing she can do really makes you root for her in a meaningful way. Again, not a bad game, just disappointing. Expand

The game really leaves mixed feelings. From a technical standpoint, it's hands down stunning. The graphics, level design, sound, and music - it's all amazing. The game really leaves mixed feelings. From a technical standpoint, it's hands down stunning. The graphics, level design, sound, and music - it's all amazing. The gameplay essentially copies that of the first game with few additions and thus feels a bit dusted, but still for the most part enjoyable.

The main sticking point is of course the story. It's not a terrible one, but I have 2 major issues with it. First, the message it tries to bring across is too grim and dark and completely contrasts with that of the first game. The world of Last of Us is already a bleak and dark place and making a story as dark and brutal as this one is just not something any of us needed. The first game is much better in this regard. It also tackles dark complex themes but conveys a feeling of hope in the end. Last of Us 2 has none of that and leaves the player emotionally exhausted and downright miserable.

What's much worse though, is the way the story is told. In the end, if that's the kind of story they wanted to tell, that's up to Naughty Dog. It could still be a great one, if done properly. Alas, it's not. The way it's structured is just bad. You don't introduce new characters by showing them do something terrible and then trying hard to show that 'hey, they're not that bad after all'. This just doesn't work and kills the enjoyment in the latter part of the game. Also, all the characters in the game are bleak, even the main ones. We got to know Ellie really well in the first game, but we get very little info about the kind of person she is now in this one. She does the things she does without a real explanation or rationale (other than a very simplistic 'they ate my foods, imma kill all of them now').

The other characters are even worse. They are sort of just there. They don't get much of a backstory and are simply too one-sided boring and downright unlikeable.

The end result is a grueling 30-hour storyline that is technically amazing, but also the one that no one really wanted or needed and that leaves a bitter aftertaste simple because it could've AND should've been so much more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game is not deserving of a 10/10 score and it is only really a masterpiece from a technical standpoint, because the characters are flat and story is less than interesting and sometimes the game feels more like a bad fanfic than something made by people with actual writing talent. The story is a mess in a lot of ways, which is the main thing dragging this otherwise good game down, and it seems naughtydog was trying harder to make "art" than to make a good game. It's not awful, but i'd recommend you wait till the game is on discount or simply (most likely the better option) watch a let's play. Expand

I would first like to say this game is stunningly beautiful the graphics are amazing the animations are cool kicking a guy down a set of stairs feels good since it doesn't take you out of the game with a cut-scene like some games do. The gameplay starts out fine but over the time starts to feel repetitive and boring with a huge amount of quick time events. Now to start with the story i didn't enjoy it but i didn't hate it. One part of the game forces you to kill a dog then tries to make you feel bad for a choice you didn't have a choice. If they changed alot of these events around. i feel like the pacing would feel better and you wouldn't hate the antagonist as much as you do. overall it's a average game would recommend getting it when it goes on a deep sale like 50% off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok so...ill do it as clear as i can. here we go...
i played the first game on Ps 3 and PS4.
i finished this game so many times. from easy to grounded mode. I EVEN DID ELLIE'S TATTOO! FOR GOD SAKE! i loved so much the first part. it gives me chills. 7 years after and here the sec' part came out.. i really hated the way they killed Joel. after all he did and all his travel... he getting killed like a side figure... ffs. oh and don't forget how Jesse died. about manny - man i dont give a F*** about him. so anyway i hated every second of joel's death. every second.
in this pary Ellie was weak then the first part. where all the anger? The adrenaline, the courage, and of course - the revenge? (Spoiler: No revenge.)
I'm sure Joel flips around in the grave now and curses Elile now. He must also be disappointed.
the grapchis was amazing. i really liked it. I loved the little details of course, if you kill an enemy - and another enemy finds the one you killed, he tells the other enemies that (for example) Ron is dead! Look for her! Be focused I loved the weapon upgrade animation. Something that wasn't in the first game, I liked that, for goodness sake, you could finally slip into battle between zombies or enemies.
I don't really have a problem about Elile and Dina's relationship, I'm not a homophobe, even I was with them.
The only thing I really disliked is playing as Abigail (pretty sure it's her full name) I don't care what her cause of revenge on Joel, I don't care. I also care about the way the developers chose to kill such a character.
Okay we realized, he murdered Abigail's dad in the hospital, they postponed the game so many times and couldn't think of another way to kill Joel? I don't care about Jesse and Manny anymore. (Tommy scared me a bit too but he survived)
Yes I care about the way. For me, there was no creativity in this game. They destroyed all the reputation they had, which they had built over the years.
What am I supposed to do now ... and again, I have no problem with his death. It was quite predictable. Even without the spoilers, I knew he was going to die, there didn't have to be a scientist to know that. But yes I had a problem with the way they chose to kill him, killing him like it was just another bottle stopper.
    for me its 510.

You could see the improvements from its predecessor.another pro of the game was the relationship between Ellie and her partner Dina. The cons of the game was the graphics.

In any story-driven game the strory is quite literally 50% of the game, which makes nailing it down very, very important. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. There are obviously some other things that the game does right from a purely technical standpoint -- although nothing close to the technical masterpiece that is Red Dead Redemption 2 -- but also that had its downfalls in the sense that they really didn't present anything new: it was the same boring, linear game-design that the first game had but with better graphics. The sound design is great, although narrow in its scope. THe graphics are ok, especially the characters' facial animations and the character models. The art-direction is incredibly boring. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II takes place 4 years later after the events of the first game. Joel and Ellie are living in a growing community in Wyoming. We see some old characters and some new ones. But after some later events an important death takes place (will go into spoilers later) that sets Ellie into “Revenge Mode”. The majority of the game takes place in Seattle where Ellie seeks revenge. In Seattle you find yourself in conflict between the WLF (Washington Liberation Front) and the violent cult Scars who are at war between each other. But that won’t stop Ellie from finding the person who wronged her. Now in this part of the review I will be doing a pros and cons list of everything I liked about the game and what I didn’t like about the game.(SPOILERS!!!)

    PROS:
First things first, I have just to say that this game had some beautiful set pieces in it. This is by far the best looking PS4 game.
There were a lot of improvements on the gameplay which I really liked. The flashback scenes between Joel and Ellie were my favorite parts in the whole game. Those scenes were the most well written scenes in the game. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson performances when they were together. The satisfying upgrades you did on all your weapons. I really liked how you could explore the environment around you. You get rewarded with looking all over the place for supplies and collectibles. I like how the enemy AI had more emotion to them. They were also more intelligent when it came to the point where it turned into a shootout. Still had some of its horror elements like the first one had. And I really liked taking on the infected (even though I got frustrated with them and died a lot but still enjoyed taking them on).

Cons: The story wasn’t compelling as the first one. It was your basic revenge plot with telling you that you need revenge and in the end it tells you that revenge is bad. Over time the game just got really tedious and repetitive. The pacing of the game was really slow. After playing it for 5 hours straight I got bored of it and had to encourage myself to continue. The game was way longer than it needed to be.
You play as the villain Abby for a LONG amount of time. Playing as Abby was my least favorite part of the game. I didn’t mind playing as her at some moments, like having her flashback and learning her motive. Didn’t mind that. When playing as Abby, the game forces you to sympathize for her and give you a better understanding of her. But my feelings for her never changed. I still saw her as the villain. Even after Understanding her motive, I still thought it could’ve been a better motive to kill Joel. It’s a motive that we’ve seen before.
The writing wasn’t as good as the first one. It felt kinda lazy at some points. Some of the new characters weren’t interesting. It felt like they were just there. When they died I didn’t feel sad or anything because I had no attachment to them like the characters I had attachment for in the first game. The characters I was mostly interested in were Lev and Yara because they were members of the cult Scars and you got to see they’re way of life. But really you don’t understand the cult.
With that leading me to this, I got to see the intentions of WLF but never got to understand the Scars motive and intentions. All I learned is that they were insane and would kill people thinking that would cleanse them. That's the only part I got from them. But I never knew what they’re intentions were in the beginning and what led them to be who they are. Now, the ending. The ending to me felt really cliche. Like I said in the beginning, the game in the end tells you that revenge is bad. Because of that Ellie lets Abby go even though Ellie had the upper hand in the final fight. In that moment I still wanted payback for what Abby did. In the end Ellie returns back and is all alone. From what it looks like, it seems that they’re setting it up for a third game which I hope doesn’t happen. The Last of Us is one of the best video games of all time. But with a sequel like Part 2 it doesn’t live up to the first one. It fails to meet the expectations of the fans. You have lazy writing, a basic premise, bland characters, and a way too long campaign. Now did I hate this game? Absolutely not. There were still things I enjoyed about the game. It’s not a bad game nor an amazing game. It was just a poor follow up to the first one. But I still enjoyed it. And because of that, I’m giving this game a 5.5/10. Thank you for reading this review.

I didn’t mind the bait in switch in characters and towards halfway through the game , I could see that the first protagonist went too far in her actions and that the second protagonist was actually the good guy. My advice , leave your politics at home and simply enjoy the game for what it is ....escapism. I’m a conservative and didn’t feel that this game was endorsing any politics . Expand

Not for everyone , but if you want cinematic story telling at its best, are invested in the characters and can appreciate the pace, you’ll love it.

Every bullet fired or received has weight and oomph to it, making battles more intense and much more on the edge.

I didn't read the spoilers before hand, the leaks, but it's kinda obvious where they were going, and one part I'm okay with, the other part I'm not, cause it was boring. I see where they were wanting to go, but to me, that part was boring, and I just hurried through to get back to the good stuff, which then when I did and was ready for something big to happen and to really start the game it was over. It stunningly looks good, one of the best games I've seen, and plays really good, didn't have many glitches, went through the walls a few times, but over all really good, it's the story that sucks, which the sucky parts is half the game. I do like that Mel is voiced by Ashly Burch, she always does a great job. I myself, took vacation to play this game, and I feel like it was a waste, not worth the full $60.00 price. The first game was by far better than this one, and while I recommend playing it, it's not gonna be as good as I was hoping, to me definitely one of the biggest let downs of this year. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I gave 9 points to the first game. I like first part and it was great experience. But the story in this game broke my heart..in bad way. I'm disappointed, upset..even more. The First 10 hours of it were brilliant, yeah the story of Ellie is interesting, strange and beautiful. But..we have a huge "But" and it is the story of another character. I understand why Druckmann wanted make such a story what he wanted to show to players. In my opinion he failed, he couldn't make me love this new character(and as i see thousands of other players), for many reasons. Why is Abby such a huge piece of meat, such stupid girl with ridiculous behavior. Right from the start of the game the authors show us that she and her friends are just brutal maniacs, who want to attack Jackson, further they kill Ellie's best friend. And after that Druckmann want me to play for this piece of **** for 15 hours, without strong plot and without a normal explanation why i must play for that character. After these 15 hours of humiliation i also had to strangle my favorite character(i mean when Abby strangles Ellie and i must push buttons to do it). Why?(( Eventually i even can't get revenge for death of Joel (also my favorite hero). So I hate the second part of this game. I can give 10 points for good graphics, music, atmosphere, beautiful views, marvelous mechanics and brutal and nice killing of enemies, 9 points for the first part of this game (journey of Ellie, Dina and other her friends) and 1 point for the second part and playing for Abby.
In total I give it 5 points. This is the most disgusting game for ps4 in my opinion. I wish Sony hadn't created this game.

The second half of the game introduces the player to a brand new arsenal of interesting weapons that heavily improved combat in a much-needed way.

The realistic world sounds and deep compelling soundtrack really pulls the player into this brutal and dark experience.

Visually and audibly, the game is a big step-up from its predecessor.

The new supporting characters are very likeable but go through little development from start to finish. Some are likeable, while others are boring and uninteresting.

The story fell flat at times, and I felt no connection to the protagonist in the second half of the game. At times I would rather purposely lose to my enemies, rather than putting up a fight. Not a feeling a player should ever experience. The ending was great in my opinion but taught the protagonist a lesson the player had learned long before that point. The bad execution pulls the story from being great to good in my eyes.

I really want to give the game a positive 9/10, but the poor executed story and characters leave me with a mixed 7/10 review.

The story does not match with TLOU universe and the characters have been purposely changed to fit the narrative. Eg, in the first game, the doctor that was killed was African American (Source: Wiki). In the second game, they changed him to a Caucasian person.

So i finish this game and first of all, if you liked the scenario of this game or defend it... You either a hypocrite, a SJW or just someone of bad faith
The scenario of this game is awesomely bad, so bad that even the main purpose of this scenario, give a moral on how vengeance is bad and the cycle of hate, doesn't work at all
Abby and his friend doesn't have any kind of regret or remorse for what they did, not a single instant they regret what they did to Joel even at the end when Abby saw that all his friend ended up killed
And even if it's not for Joel, none of them regret the pain they cause to Ellie, Tommy and all people at Jackson, the familly they broke etc
How the **** you are supposed to do a credible moral about "Vengeance is bad" and make Abby and his friend a bunch of trash people wihout any regret?
And Ellie forgiving Abby came out of nowhere, doesn't make any freaking sense, she never receive any education from Joel about "Vengeance is bad", kill hundred people to get Abby included her friend, Abby is the one who kill Joel, she even kill Jesse, half-kill Tommy and almost kill Dina but, Ellie forgive her, after a **** flashback
Really? Nothing work it's writing like ****
And can we speak about how the story telling is all over the place, even a 5 year old kid will do better than this
Are we supposed to hate Abby? If that case why did we play her with her friend for 10 hours
And if we was supposed to have empathy, why did we play her after she kill Joel?
What kind of non sense is this?
By the way honestly that wouldn't have change anything for me because the WLF included Abby and his friend are a bunch of uninteresting trash humans, who doesn't aknowledge they are trash by finding excuse for the atrocity they did and do
And let's finish by the death of Joel, something awesomely out of character because neither him or Tommy would have follow a bunch of Stranger in the house and put themself in a ambush position.
That scenario is so forced and awesomely bad, didn't even success to give his morality
And i will stop right here for this because outside of this
Graphic and bgm deserve a 18/20, the best of his generation for the graphic for now until Ghost of tsushima may overcome it or at least match it
The world lore is still very realistic with the down fall of humanity 16/20
    The gameplay is fair 15/20
But the scenario, got a 3 or a 4, only because of the flashback with Ellie and Joel.
And because it's show one character in another light, Marlène, in the first one she was shown in a bad way, the person who had decided to sacrifice Ellie
In TLOU2 we saw that she didn't want it but give up under the pressure of Abby and his **** dad who his by the way the worst doctor i never saw
Because brain doesn't produced any immune defense, if the cordyceps mutated it's was because of Ellie defense system so they should have search in the spinal fluid, plasma, thyroide etc
Make no freaking sense to kill her for her brain
Any 13,25 should be my final rating, but a give a minus 2 for another thing
The hypocrysy of Sony on the censured of sexual content, when every freaking Japenese game got censured for very questionable reason at best or totally unnecessary reason in worst case
And in this game we got 2 freaking sex scene and the second one absolutely disturbing between Abby and Manny
And we saw Ellie half nude too after she kill Nora
Get lost Sony ****ing bunch of hypocrytical SJW with a two speed censured, really became a good US compagny, not Japenese anymore

Second half is a 3 with some excellent visuals and cinematics, including more plot holes. You just keep keep asking yourself why this is even here. Nowhere near the first, but worth picking up once it drops pretty cheap. I also adored the first one, which is one of my all time favourite games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game gets a lot right. The environments, the lighting, the sound...all these things are absolutely stunning.
Unfortunately the story and characters are the foundation of this franchise and they are just not strong enough to support it.
My big problem with this game is how inconsistent it is with the first game’s tone and themes. It doesn’t feel like the second half of The Last of Us story; it feels like a different game by a different studio that incorporates elements of the first game without really understanding what made the first game so special.
The first game clearly established that this is a dangerous world. People die frequently and even finding safety in a QZ doesn’t mean a quiet life. It is harsh and overbearing. People just try to get by. Joel’s journey across the country with Ellie makes sense because of the extraordinary hope she represents for a cure. The player believes the characters’ motivations.
The characters in Part II seem unconcerned by the dangers of the outside. Abby travels over 800 miles from Seattle to Jackson with several companions simply to get revenge on the man who killed her dad 5 years ago. Ellie then travels back to Seattle with Dina to get revenge on Abby and co. No character ever acknowledges that these journeys are incredibly dangerous and nobody tries to convince Ellie that it’s a bad idea. It stretches believability to breaking point and the game is only a few hours in at this point.
Believability is actually a consistent issue throughout this game. So many times I just didn’t buy that the characters would be doing whatever it is they’re doing. Abby, who we are told is the WLF’s “top Scar killer” spends two days travelling all over Seattle to save the lives of two Scar teenagers who saved her life the day before. We frequently see Abby be disparaging about the Scars and even when she is risking her life to travel with Lev for life-saving medical supplies, she keeps using the term Scar even though he keeps correcting her to the less offensive ‘Seraphite’. It’s contradictory - we are supposed to believe that Abby cares enough about these two kids that she’ll risk her life to save them, yet she is apparently indifferent enough that she will keep insulting Lev with the term ‘Scar’. This is just one example of many where the characters’ actions don’t make sense. It gets worse to the point that Abby is willing to start killing lots of WLF members just to save Lev as she is, apparently, - after spending a few hours with him - so attached to Lev that she will totally abandon the safety and community she has with the WLF to begin an uncertain life with him. Again, makes no sense, and the game doesn’t try to justify it.
The dialogue is also in serious need of attention. The first game used subtext very effectively and allowed the player a lot of room to infer what the characters were thinking. This approach, which gave us beautiful lines of dialogue in the first game, is abandoned in Part II. The conversations are usually bland, trite and forgettable. Characters say things that feel out of step with where they are and what they’re doing. The lines just feel too ‘on the nose’ and, when compared to the first game, stick out like a sore thumb.
There are other issues too but the ones I’ve listed give you an idea of what this game is all about.
It’s not a *bad* game. It doesn’t deserve 0, 1 or 2 out of 10 but it certainly doesn’t warrant 10 either. My score of 7 reflects the fact that the game is superb in some areas but fails in the most important area - story and characters.

Now when it comes to the game, i'll be honest, it is booring af, and the story drags itself painfully, i literally have no interest in finishing this game, gameplay is repetitive it's a more polished version of TLOU but at the end TLOU was never great because of it's gameplay, TLOU 2 feels soulless like if they changed the team behind the game, it tries to grip to the legacy but at the same time it tries to forget it when it matters the most.

I'm not even gonna touch the woke aspect of the game, we already know what they were going for, we already know who Druckman is and what he believes in, i think it was a terrible decision to go that way, but hey i bet there are some individuals who will enjoy that, right?

the early part of the game is very similar to the original from a graphical pov and is almost DLC but then it opens up into some of the best graphics ever seen complimented by some fun (and violent) gameplay.

I did like the Abby character and I did start to care about her ...which was amazing, as when she first turned up I was not a happy bunny. I was angry and upset and confused why I was being forced to play as this person...but she won me over. Though the character is overall wasted and fails to do anything interesting. Though I did find her extremely attractive but then I'm weird lol

But the game is too long and has too many false endings for my liking. It does waste your time. And every time Joel and Ellie are together I was angry that this wasn't the game. Those tiny segments are amazing and wonderful and the museum is flawless magic.

I have no idea what is wrong with Neil D (the director) but I feel he hates himself and despises his many of his fans. He is clearly a clever guy and made the WONDERFUL The Last Of us but the man needs to step back and allow others to edit his genius. This game needs a serious edit but not a directors cut haha

ALSO as a LGBT+ person I didn't like THREE bloody LGBT + stories. As it took the power from one story told well to three told poorly. Hell the Lev story was just offensive and unnecessary and clearly written by someone who really doesn't know what he is talking about. Though I applaud their efforts to be different but they end up being tone death as everyone else. Atleast they tried though.

There is an issue which should be a discussion about the ENDLESS reused assets. The sheer volume of enemies who were physically identical became embarrassing at one point. Fighting a wave of identical humans and monsters only compounded the issues with lack of variety and too much repetition. Lazy inexplicable decisions which hurt the game and made it into a repetitive slog at times.

Yes I had some graphical issues and as the game goes on they became worse. I played a large chunk with no arm so that was hilarious but ruined the immersion. Sound and music are solid and the game is long...like way too long haha but def. get your money worth.

It is not a scratch on the original and not much like it and this is a genuine shame. the story is not a good one and it is poorly told. I reminded me of BEYOND 2 Soulz that Quantic Dreams thing. They re-released a version which didn't mess with the chapter order. I feel TLOU2 needs this asap to help make us really care vs being told or manipulated to care.

Overall I give it an 8 for graphics and trying to do something even if it fails but a 7 for wasting alot of potential and good will as well as literally spitting on fans at times. It made me mad...so there is that haha

I feel like you are not allowed to say bad things about this game or you are labeled as a homophobe even though your criticism is completely against something else in the game.
What people actually dislike here is the story, which is something that a 15 year-old fan fiction writer would come up with.

Neil has been watching way too much Game of Thrones because of this; "ha ha guess you didn't expect this to happen huh?!" Out of nowhere unexpected **** happening doesn't equal good Neil.

In the game devs make you kill, burn, cut, curb stomp people, and then they make you feel like the bad guy because you did that **** even though you had no choice.

Words cannot describe how immensely disappointed I am. ND have built up a reputation of being one of the top game developers and to see them do this to their most beloved franchise to push a message is really sad.

The gameplay is nothing new, it's decent and serviceable at best, the inclusion of a jump button was completely pointless but I guess it's better than nothing. Combat is practically the same from the first, stealth is basically the same with the new mechanic of being able to go prone, it's the same deal with the jump button it didn't need to be there.
From what I recall there are only 2 new enemy types. Dogs and Shamblers. Both are easy to deal with. Dogs can pick up your scent which is cool I guess but it's easily avoidable. Place a mine behind you and the dog is practically dealt with.
Just throw molotovs, mines or whatever you can at Shamblers and pump them full of lead. There's no real strategy other than shoot it until it's dead. It's AOE attacks are also easily avoidable.
Bosses in the game are absolutely boring and require the basic dodge 3 times, do a 3 hit combo and repeat.
The puzzles don't take any brainpower to figure out and could've been left out of the game entirely. The puzzles from Spider-Man PS4 were more well implemented than this rubbish.

Music, voice acting, graphics, accessibility and world building are incredible there's not much else I can say on those things.

Now the story, the thing that's got people raging.
I'm not going to spoil the ending but all you need to know is, is that the ending renders Ellie's journey pointless and a complete waste of time.
ND deliberately made people believe a certain someone is featured prominently in the story with the marketing when in actuality what they do is pull a bait and switch. If you've already seen revenge stories before, you'll quickly understand where this one goes.
The only characters that are likeable in this story are:
    Joel
    Tommy
    Jesse
    Alice
Who's Alice you say? She's a dog, and the fact that I cared more about a dog that had 20 minutes screen time more than the main character speaks volumes.
Ellie in this game is a thundering **** to her friends and her girlfriend. She makes stupid decisions, learns nothing throughout the game bar the ending, kills hundreds of people through the gameplay without remorse but when she kills someone in a cutscene she gets overwhelmed with emotions. The only time Ellie is remotely likeable is when she's in a flashback with Joel.

Dina is boring, unfunny, annoying, like Ellie makes insanely stupid decisions, a burden. This character is the one who's the ai companion for the majority of the game. Dina doesn't hold a candle to the relationship of Joel and Ellie from the first game. Not much of the story changes if Dina wasn't in the game.

Abby is the new character who early on in the game kills someone the player is very attached to. The writers leading up to this part deliberately made 2 characters stupid in order to progress the plot. Abby is extremely unlikable, unfunny, boring and quite frankly Abby is someone you don't want to be spending 10+ hours with, the true sin with this character is that you're forced to play as her and sympathize with her.
The less said about Lev the better so I'll make it quick. Lev is not portrayed to have much flaws. He's arrogant, selfish, annoying and a burden. The only reason why Lev is in this game is because he's trans and the actor who plays him is trans. If Lev wasn't in this game, it would be much better and shorter since a large section if the game is dedicated to him. And it's not because he's trans, it's because his personality is so infuriating.
Abby's group are loaded with unlikable and uninteresting characters, I'd be here all day if I talked about each one.

ND want you to either love or hate this game. The only way ND fails is if you become indifferent to the game. Give it a "meh" score and forget it exists. If you say to ND that you are indifferent or meh or it's ok middle of the road rubbish, that'll speak volumes to them. ND are expecting you to say "I hate the story and I hate these characters" if you say the game is serviceable and quickly forget about it that would do a dent, because they have failed to get a reaction out of you.
Don't buy this game, don't speak hate or love about it in the future, speak indifference.

This is truly not so good, not so bad, but very good, and very bad. The game is bizarre because of script. Not contents of books, but arrangement make mistakes.
I don't like who forcing players to understand the story, nobody likes,so director lose the best weapon in TLOU: empathy.

Other than that, the game's alright if you ask me; a typical Naughty Dog game - for better and worse. I don't see what all the fuss is about on either side of the coin, but there is currently a concerted and dubious campaign against it - and that's kind of embarrassing for all involved in it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, this is the most confusing game I've ever played, not because the story is complicated or not clear, the game simply left me not knowing what to feel, I loved some parts of it but I absolutely hated a lot also, the game play is mildly fun but it's not a huge innovation from the first game, and it isn't very diverse, but the problem of this game is not the game play, is the **** up parts of the story. The game lets Abby get away with all that she did but the main character just loses everything and just makes you feel totally hopeless in the end it's not a fitting or fair ending for Ellie because it basically reduces everything you did to nothing, even if the lesson it tries to teach is that "revenge is bad" but it does so in a way that feels so void and stupid, the game constantly expects you to feel something for the people that **** murdered Joel, and it is so absurd, I found myself laughing whenever one of Abby's friends were killed (I lol so hard when Manny gets shot). The whole Part where you control Abby could be put in a different game or a Dlc that had no connection to the main story because its so pointless when it tries to make you care about characters that you will probably hate in the first hour of the story . And if that wasn't enough then the game expects you to fight ellie using a character that don't care about, I literally let myself die to ellie several times expecting that would just trigger the end of the game but it is simply hell bent in making ellie suffer. And as if that wasn't enough the game then robs you of the choice to see Ellie's revenge through and it just forces you to forgive the girl that killed Joel and expects you to be sad about it instead of furious, they couldn't even let us have a choice and it shoves into you the "moraly correct thing to do" as if we hadn't done all this horrible **** throughout the whole game. It would be better that we forget the story of this game ever happened and just imagine a better life for the characters we grew to love in the first game, Joel and Ellie deserved better. Expand

Of course the leaks were not too accurate.
I don't think this game has an agenda.
    Gameplay and visuals are superior.
But Naughty dog ruined the story.
The game should result in around 25 hours gameplay but for me it only lasted around 2 hours.
Can't and won't play this game any further.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. tlou2 is a horrible game. The gameplay is good and doesn’t change much compared to the first game. The graphics, music, and locations are great. The story on the other hand is a complete dumpster fire. The characters from the first game act out of character and make bad decisions. And worst of all they force you to play as Abby,(a character you don’t like) for like 1/3 of the game so you feel sympathy for her and it just doesn’t work. You’re forced to be around characters you don’t care about, it drags on for way too long, and ruins the game. There’s no motivation to desperately survive and keep this character you don’t like alive. You have to play as Abby and try to kill Ellie and Tommy which is just stupid. They could’ve ended the flashback once you saw the doctor die. It’s a petty and stupid revenge story with horrible pacing. Plus the ending is trash and unsatisfying. Ellie basically loses everything and the entire journey was all for nothing. I 100% understand the message and what Naughty Dog is trying to tell me, but that doesn’t mean it I like it, and it definitely wasn’t executed well. Expand

This game does not deserve tens, nines or zero-ones. The great idea (in theory) is destroyed by absolute mediocre screenplay with boring characters conversations and their illogical actions.

The Last of Us is my favourite game of all time, I can't stress that enough whilst writing this. The sequel broke my heart. The sequel broke my heart. In acceptable ways at first, with certain character deaths that had me grieving for hours, and then unacceptable ways when they made the awful decision to make us play the antagonist for half the game, trying to force sympathy for a character we only grew to hate more. The whole game went downhill from there, and I almost feel like seeing it through to the end...wasn't worth it.

I cannot realistically give this game any less than a 5 because the graphics are outstanding, and you know what? If this WASN'T The Last of Us, this might be a good game. But it is. And they've broken a lot of fans hearts with this poorly written attempt at a sequel. Let's all just agree to stick to the first game and forget about this tragedy of a sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If anything, this game proves that you have to take reviews, both from the critics and the users, with a grain of salt.

The game sounds and looks beautiful, albeit with a fairly low FPS for me, coming from the world of PC gaming.

The gameplay is decent. I had some problems where the sway and the aim assist seemingly worked against each other, but that might just be because I'm not used to the controller, so I'm just pointing it out, and it didn't have an influence on my score.

The game is very linear most of the time, which is a plus for me. The game mostly leads you to the next part in an intuitive way.

I don't think I have ever seen this many custom settings for gameplay. While I never used them, it is a definite plus for people who need them.

I personally didn't mind the so called "pandering" in the game. Of the new characters, I probably ended up sympathizing with Lev the most.

What dragged this game down for me, however, was the structure and other choices in the narrative.
I understand that there need to be consequences for Joel. I get WHY he died, but HOW it was done is just so incomprehensible to me. The cautious main character of the first game dies in the beginning by walking into a camp filled with people he doesn't know. Nah, I don't buy it.

I also get why we get to "see" Abby's version of the events that unfold. But again, I don't agree with HOW we see it. I now have to play the character I'm meant to hate, through each scenario that lead up to friends dying, with intercut flashbacks which serve almost only to confuse me further. As I was searching the hotel for supplies, I almost quit the game, that's how much it dragged. At no point did I ever care about Abby. The only interesting thing about her storyline, was the introduction of Lev and his sister.

There are two morals to the story:
    1) The whole "revenge = bad". Cliché, and done poorly. I hated how Ellie flip-flopped during the end, and I wish it had been done differently. Perhaps not had the last fight, and made Ellie realize it when she saw the state of Abby on the pillar.
    2) How no one is intrinsically evil. We see Abby's version of the event to make us realize that what is good and evil in this world, isn't as simple as it may seem. The fact that the guys at the end are so one dimensionally evil kind of defeats that purpose, but I liked the idea, hated the execution of it.

In the end, it's not a terrible game. It does not in any way work as a sequel to the first one, and it has big problems in terms of structure. The best thing was the flashbacks with Joel, scattered through the narrative mess, and perhaps the conflict with the seraphites, and the character of Lev.
I wish it hadn't been attached to the first game, because then I might have liked it more, and it wouldn't have tarnished the franchise.

I struggle with whether to give it a 5 or a 6. If not for the vast amount of custom settings, I would have given it a 5.

-Gameplay: It’s really realistic combat, but it can get very tiring if you are playing the game on survivor like me. Abby part is a drag for me, I ran past several encounters just to get to the next area.
-Graphics: Stunningly realistic. There are some really cinematic scenes in the game, like Abby leaving the island.
-Details: Ellie will lower her head subconsciously while passing under the cable. Ellie can step on fences to jump. (You can trigger this animation by jump from the dumpster in the area where there is a Grafitti says **** the wolves.)

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
