Along with the professionals returning from the previous games (who have all been aged, and thus feel fresh again) there is a flood of recent talents added, too. Coupled with the new additions to the soundtrack that instantly gel with the rest of the package, you have an overall game that honors the current skateboarding culture. A return to the welcoming arcade-like gameplay of the franchise while giving everything a fresh coat of paint for the new era. This could be the start of the grand, new wave for the Tony Hawk's brand, and, even if it's not, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is the king's return to the throne.
  2. Sep 9, 2020
    Extraordinarily good.
  3. Sep 9, 2020
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 is easily one of the best remasters available on the market today and does an excellent job of retaining the spirit and feel of the PlayStation era classics while adding on new features, music, and other options to propel these two entries into the modern era. The gameplay is still timeless and is sure to capture the attention of a whole new era of skateboarding fans that might not have grown up on the Tony Hawk series to begin with. Here’s hoping Activision and Vicarious Visions have plans for additional releases, as there are still more excellent entries in the franchise that are worth revisiting, especially if done so with the level of care and attention to detail that is present here.

One of the greatest sports games of all time is back and every bit as good as you remember.
  5. Sep 8, 2020
A final awesome thing about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 is that although you’ll have to unlock levels in the game’s campaign mode, all of the levels are available to you from the get-go in Free Skate mode. It was wonderful to be able to skate around each of the levels in the game, refamiliarizing myself with the mechanics of the game before actually doing anything worthwhile. The decision to not gate levels is one that I greatly appreciated.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 not only lives up to the beloved classic games, but it lives up to my memory of the beloved classic games; an important distinction. It walks the fine line of recreating the classics for a modern era, while never feeling either dated or burdened with new and unnecessary changes.
  7. Sep 3, 2020
Vicarious Visions has proved that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was more than just a product of its time, and that – like skating itself – it has every chance of penetrating the mainstream once again. The studio should be lauded for twice proving that it is a steward of 90s nostalgia, and that it can reanimate games to be just as good – if not better! – for their second turn under the sun.
  8. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+ 2 is a labour of love and an ode to the series’ glory days. Every inch of the game has been perfectly restored and updated for modern consoles and it's an absolute delight to play from start to finish. This is a must-buy for skateboarders, gamers and everyone else in between.
  9. Sep 3, 2020
Vicarious Visions has delivered a superb remake of two iconic games without letting modern gaming’s vices get in the way.

Basically, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is a perfect remaster. It feels the way you expect the game to and has everything I loved about these two games. Everything looks more gorgeous than ever before. You have extra tasks in the original levels. There are incentives to keep going back into all of the levels to complete tasks, unlock new customization options, get stat points, and work toward getting over 700 Challenges done. There’s a great multiplayer option. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 isn’t just as good as you remembered, it’s better.
  11. Sep 16, 2020
Make no mistake, the Tony Hawk series is back in all of its resplendent glory. It’s awesome seeing the Birdman back up on his perch and coming back to these games after a decade of unworthy entries really felt like a revelation as I was immediately reminded of how much I’d been missing the series from my life. With tight controls, awesome music and a whole ton of new content in the form of challenges, this is as close to perfection you can get when attempting to update a classic franchise for a new generation.

What the developers of THPS 1 + 2 managed to achieve is nothing short of miraculous. During the first minutes with the game I was sure I had traveled back in time and only some new songs on the soundtrack convinced me otherwise. The remake feels exactly like the original game and, simply put, it is absurdly good. [11/2020, p.34]

Vicarious Visions have restored two childhood favorite games with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater to near perfection and proven once again, rollerbladers drool, skateboards rule.
  14. Sep 8, 2020
Vicarious Visions nailed the remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2. They have given us a reminder about how much fun this title was back in the day, how much fun it is today, and assured gamers that anyone can pick it up and play it without much fuss. Is it perfect? Nope, but it’s near-perfect fun.
  15. Sep 8, 2020
There’s a fine line between a remake and a remaster, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 doesn’t just expertly balance on it, It pops a 50-50 nose grind, rides that line with a devil may care attitude, and lands the trick perfectly. The biggest name in skateboarding is back, and better than ever.
  16. Sep 4, 2020
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is just plain, good old-fashioned arcade fun. I think we could all use a healthy dose of that right now.
  17. 95
Chaotic, fun, addictive, and rewarding. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 retains everything that made the games amazing in the '90s. It then adds a coat of fresh paint, better physics, and a more modern progression system to keep you playing after completing the classic objectives. This is an amazing package of games that will please old fans and new fans alike and I am so happy it turned out so well.
  18. Oct 7, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 pulls off one of the hardest tricks of all – providing a game that will appeal both to those who have fond memories of the original and those who are playing a skateboarding game for the first time. The controls are tight and responsive, the animations smooth and realistic, the levels are a joy to skate, and the game is a true and fitting tribute to its legacy.
  19. Sep 10, 2020
Though some of the skaters might be past their prime, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is an incredible example of how some classics just never go out of style.
  20. Oct 23, 2020
An amazing helping of skating fun for the nostalgic players among you. This is a remake that perfectly encapsulates the qualities and atmosphere of the original games.
  21. Oct 2, 2020
Good game design is good game design, regardless of age or platform. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 takes the levels from the amazing original PS1 titles, and blows out the scope in every direction. Adding a ton of modernizing touches without ever losing sight of what makes these games great, THPS 1+2 is a riotous success. Lock in for some extended play sessions, and get your blister band-aids ready because this game is additive beyond belief.
  22. Sep 25, 2020
There's a lot to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, and it all feels on point: challenges, gear, more characters, and online multiplayer. At the same time, you can probably clear every stage in the game in a single afternoon. It has trimmed most of the fat that's typical of these projects and unapologetically focused on its original core experience, and the results are all the better for it. It runs, looks, and plays great, but it could've taken a few more risks along the way. That's a small gripe to have when everything else works so nicely.
  23. Sep 20, 2020
Even if the game would've been limited to the first Pro Skater, the remake would still well be worth it. It's a smooth experience packed with rich levels, energetic gameplay, and a ton of style. It doesn't dramatically reinvent the Tony Hawk formula, but it doesn't need to, nor should it. It's the definitive way to experience the core of the Tony Hawk franchise, elegantly surpassing what came before it, and setting a new bar for future entries in the process. For other contenders to the skating game throne, that bar will be incredibly difficult to exceed.
  24. Sep 17, 2020
At times, these remakes are faithful to a fault, but the pure joy of finally nailing that combo you were going for, executing that trick you had failed five times in a row, completing that goal that you just couldn't manage, it’s all here and it holds up better than game design from two decades ago has any right to do. If you once loved this series, you owe it to yourself to experience these games again in all their remastered glory and if you're new to them, you'll find a game that is easy to pick up, hard to put down, and addicting in all the best ways.
  25. 90
A revitalization of two classic games, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 proves that even in an industry laden with battle passes and massively multiplayer offerings, gameplay is king. Two minutes have never gone by so fast.
  26. Sep 12, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is an incredibly fun and addictive game. I felt the same enthusiasm and excitement that the original games in this series gave me. Craftsmen from Vicarious Visions have once again confirmed their status as high-class reanimators of old projects.
  27. Sep 10, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is the perfect remake. It doesn't just recapture what made the series so beloved, but helps us fall in love with mastering combos and finding secret areas all over again. The one major downfall of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a relatively slight one: its multiplayer options are slim at launch. Even being a grinding, rolling advertisement for the sorts of brands you'd find at Zumiez, all the brands's non-stop presence is something undeniably Tony Hawk—and hell, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a cart waiting to check out at Zumiez now. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is an excellent remake with a rare power: the power to make skaters of us all.
  28. Sep 10, 2020
Vicarious Visions has a masterpiece on their hands with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2. They handled the remake of theses games with the right amount of reverance while still leaving their own signature on the work. THPS 1+2 combines awesome gameplay mechanics, impressive graphics, and an outstanding soundtrack in a complete package of skateboarding greatness.
  29. Sep 10, 2020
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is a love letter to the original games, keeping the core gameplay intact but tweaking it enough to feel fresh and current. If you were never interested in the original games, or care little for skateboarding and its culture, there is still plenty to enjoy here too. You would be a right nollie not to pick this up.
  30. Sep 9, 2020
Vicarious Visions did it again and gave rebirth to another classic franchise: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is the best game in the franchise since the fourth game, and we can't wait for what's in store in the future.
  31. Sep 9, 2020
THPS 1+2 Remastered remembers everything that made the classic skateboarding series so great, and brings it back for the modern era. The game is a little slower than some of the more wacky titles in the series, but the focus on pure skill and reward makes it difficult to put down.
  32. Sep 9, 2020
By hiring Vicarious Visions studio (Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy) to remaster these monuments that are Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2, Activision made the right choice. The developers have managed to sublimate the games that we have known for and loved about twenty years now. 4K graphics, recreated levels, new playable characters, new soundtrack, tons of new challenges to complete: everything has been thought out so that players can spend more hours skating using an enjoyable arcade gameplay. Players, young and old will have a blast, and the arcade aspect will delight fans of tricks and huge scores. At an unbeatable price for both games, you won't find anything better.
  33. Sep 7, 2020
Playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 feels pitch perfect, but the complete package is somewhat limited by the old-school game design of the original Career modes.
  34. Sep 7, 2020
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 offers more than just a nostalgic experience. It’s a return to the skateboarding movement that shaped my early teens and will surely give gamers growing up a chance to capture that same feeling I did. The experience expertly balances the arcadey systems of the series without pushing it too far to the mundane or cringy. Instead, what you are left with is a genuine Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater experience and one that I immensely enjoyed.
  35. Sep 7, 2020
Vicarious Visions delivers what everyone wished for and then some. Offering classic gameplay with some necessary tweaks and innovations, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a phenomenal experience, worth playing for fans of the old games and newcomers alike.
  36. Sep 6, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is a title that manages to be incredibly nostalgic, but it's a modern experience at the same time.
  37. Sep 4, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 really impresses as a remaster. As a fan of the original, I can hardly believe that everything comes out so well. This game feels just like it did then. At the same time, it is great how "faithful" the innovations of Vicarious Visions feel. It's as if the new park goals have always been there. The loading times are a bit long, the UI is not great and the challenge system is initially confusing. But annoyance is not an option. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is the type of remaster for which the remaster was invented.
  38. Sep 4, 2020
Remember when games used to be all about fun? No weird and unnecessary story mode, no silly and over the top voice acting and dialog - just plain fun. Well, this is what Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 tried to accomplish. And wouldn't you know it - it succeeded marvelously.
  39. 90
A stripped-down, glorious-looking remake that updates the original two games in just the right way to make them feel fresh and exciting again.
  40. Sep 3, 2020
The end result is a video game that looks, sounds, and feels incredible. And it’s one that should appeal to long-time fans and people who are new to skateboarding entirely.
  41. Sep 3, 2020
Vicarious Vision gives old and new players another fantastic remake.
  42. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is about as good a remaster as we've ever had, staying as close to the originals as possible, and only veering off slightly where it spots a chance to improve on the source material. There's really no reason not to get this if you have even a passing interest in the original games, or skateboarding, or hanging out with your buddies on a Saturday night to see who can nail the craziest combos.
  43. Sep 3, 2020
Pro Skater 1 + 2 not only perfectly recreates the pure joy of the originals, it improves on them greatly. The visuals have obviously been improved, but so have the responsive controls. If you have liked a Tony Hawk game in the past, you’ll feel right at home here.
  44. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is such a tremendous turnaround from 2015’s disastrously dismal Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 that it’s difficult to believe they share even a shred of DNA. The accessible yet tricky skating is earnest and old-school fun, the wonderful looking levels are lovingly designed odes to the past, and the music is like the hearty embrace of an old childhood buddy. It’s pretty easy to be cynical about how rapidly selling us our favourite games again became a central pillar of Activision’s business strategy, but when it’s this much fun I’m finding it impossible to be sour about it. It turns out going backwards has been the best step forward Activision has taken with the Tony Hawk series in nearly 15 years.
  45. Sep 3, 2020
Because it nails so much about that original Tony Hawk experience, it's really hard to be mad at Pro Skater 1 + 2 for any of its downsides. The load times aren't enough to keep you away from the plethora of satisfying combos, and the lack of level goals for every skater isn't enough to keep you from jumping back in with a new character. Playing through the newly remade levels is immensely enjoyable, and that on its own is enough to call Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 a success. However, smart additions and an engaging challenge system make it an experience that's more than just a brief skate through Tony Hawk's past.
  46. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 are perfect remasters that remind me fondly of the original, offering excellent gameplay and tons to do. They look great, sound great, and have tons of replayability.
  47. Oct 8, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is a love letter to the original games thanks to the easy to pick-up, hard to master gameplay. With a great deal of customization to boot and multiple multiplayer options, there is a ton of time to be spent here for a great price. Graphics could've been better at times, but that almost doesn't even matter because you'll be way more focused on the phenomenal soundtrack.
  48. Sep 8, 2020
At its $40 price point, this is a great value for anyone wanting to dip a toe into the skateboard game genre. If you’re an old hand, it won’t disappoint. If you’re brand new, get ready to fall in love. With the addition of the skate park editor, this is truly an infinite skating machine.
  49. Sep 4, 2020
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 makes the experience of playing through these games again feel fresh and current. With contemporary visuals, smooth gameplay, and the iconic soundtrack you remember, the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise may once again have a bright future thanks to this terrific blast from the past.
  50. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 moves between the old and new like fish on water. It offers the same control, the iconic levels and the gameplay we used to love, but with a new and shiny body that offers more options than ever. It's not perfect, but it's the skate game that lots of us were expecting.
  51. Sep 7, 2020
THPS 1 + 2 is one of the best remakes ever; no nostalgia is needed whatsoever to enjoy this gem. Although the game is filled with recognizable moments for veterans of the series, the gameplay is so smooth that even newcomers are welcomed with open arms. The Tony Hawk-franchise finally has the right to call itself a proper franchise again.
  52. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is the realization of a dream that has pervaded the minds of fans for a long, too long, time. Through the inclusion of gameplay features from the third and fourth chapters, Vicarious Visions has restored vigor to the classic recipe and gave players valid reasons to "stay" even after completing the Skate Tours.
  53. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk is back with a fantastic remake of the two original games. Vicarious Visions has done a fantastic job bringing back the classics, although this is the third time they get remake/remastered and maybe it’s time to give other entries a chance. We miss more options for online multiplayer, but other than that, it’s a must-have for those who ever enjoyed the series.
  54. Sep 6, 2020
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is a love letter for skateboarding fans and the long-running Activision saga. An exercise in rejuvenation that shows that twenty years are nothing for a bomb-proof gameplay: everything continues to work wonderfully. Despite its bugs and connection drops in online multiplayer, it is almost excellent.
  55. Sep 3, 2020
The remakes are not flawless and the game design also shows its age here and there. Vicarious Visions, on the other hand, succeeded in achieving the goal of getting the THPS vibes across. Nice that "old" Tony is back.
  56. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is back in action with a new entry that perfectly recreates the classic gameplay and, to top it off, we get a whole new technical dimension. A full arcade experience that will be able to convince both the vets of the franchise as well as those that have never played it before.

More than a simple re-release, Vicarious Visions has pulled off the impressive trick of delivering definitive versions of two legendary games. No fakie, this is the real deal. [Issue#181, p.97]
  58. Oct 8, 2020
Not a Falcon but a Nostalgia Punch. The mix of modern and old code and slight tweaks to the original make this an amazing remaster. Old and new skating fans should not miss out on this game.
  59. Sep 10, 2020
A tremendous nostalgic package for those that grew up with and loved the first few games in the Tony Hawk series.
  60. Sep 8, 2020
The new studios pay both respect and homage to the original releases by valuing their clarity above all else.
  61. Sep 8, 2020
For those who can forgive the confusing online component, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 stands as another well-crafted and well-realized remake of an old favorite. For the second time, Vicarious Visions demonstrate both a fond appreciation yet clever deducing on how this type of game should look and feel in current times. It’s this sense of harmony and of finding the treasured middle-ground — between the old we know and the implied new of a better experience — that the studio triumph on where it matters.
  62. Sep 8, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 makes good on its promise of revitalizing a legendary franchise, but it's modern twists aren't all clean landed.
  63. 80
The stuff you want from a THPS 1 and 2 remaster is all here and most of the things you don't want are mercifully missing but after beating the campaign once, the challenge system doesn't really encourage us to keep going. However, this as a remaster of two of the best games ever made and it does a great job.
  64. Sep 7, 2020
It took a while, but with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, the series is finally great again. Sure, it's a little strange that the series reaches its former glory in a remake where the track design and gameplay are largely intact compared to the 20 year old original games, but it shows what a perfect concept Neversoft created over 20 years ago. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is not only the perfect game for old fans who want to relive the happy days of life, but also for new players who want an easily accessible yet deep skateboarding game.
  65. Sep 6, 2020
Vicarious Visions has produced another excellent remake with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2. It brings those PS1 classics to the modern era with a wonderful visual upgrade, rock solid performance, and all the features you'd expect of a game released in 2020. Most importantly, though, it retains the specific feel of the franchise at its best, delivering an addictive, fast-paced, arcade-like experience. Old fans can rest easy knowing that the Tony Hawk games are back on form, while new players can dive into the skateboarding world for the first time. This game is sick, bro.
  66. Sep 5, 2020
A great starting point for newcomers and a refreshing return to the glory days of skateboarding for veterans of the franchise, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 does everything you want and a bit more. While customizing stages is a little wonky and the character creator is remarkably boring, the game is an absolute joy to just hop in and play.
  67. Sep 4, 2020
Even if you are not nostalgic for the originals and or interested in skateboarding culture, there is still plenty to enjoy. The levels feel small by modern standards and the systems behind the skating aren’t always well communicated, but the first two games remain deeply engrossing, refined creations. Chasing scores, puzzling your way to seemingly accessible collectibles and drumming up some friendly rivalry with another player is as exciting as it ever was. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 open a portal to a place, time and subculture – and it’s a delight to step through.
  68. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is the most wonderful time travel experience we've lived through videogames. But despite the marvelous work by Vicarious Visions, the heart and the soul of the game reside in its roots.
  69. Sep 3, 2020
Vicarious Visions has built an engine that could actually push the series in a new direction, with the focus on skating rather than gimmicks that came from the annual release cycle that the series was stuck in. Here's hoping this is more of a warm up than a victory lap.
  70. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 finally brings back the noise of a beloved franchise, after so many failed attempts. This remaster compiles the arcade gameplay and the silliness of two famous games to deliver a classic but loving experience for every fan of the genre. If only this duo turned into a trio, the party would have been perfect.
  71. Sep 3, 2020
Blemishes aside, Activision is doing so much right this time beyond just putting Vicarious Visions in charge.
  72. Sep 21, 2020
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remains true to the original with updated graphics and the original soundtrack. Occasionally cameras will struggle to find the right angle to follow the skater but this is a great game to play alone or with friends.
  73. Sep 3, 2020
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a nostalgic attack that make us feel very oldo, though with classic fun gameplay.
  74. Sep 3, 2020
The one and only tangible addition to the studio is a rather messy and cumbersome experience and challenge system that won't get you much except cosmetic items in the hundreds. The pleasure and the sensations are there. But it would have taken a little more to make an impression.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2's most impressive achievement isn't just bringing back something old, though. It would've been easy to polish up grandpa's skateboarding game and put it out for $40 as a hollow appeal to nostalgia. All of the new enhancements, from fresh young skaters to fully appropriate new music, form a genuine fountain of youth for the franchise that open worlds and motion controls never could. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 doesn't have to pretend it's a Superman. It's already there.
  2. Sep 3, 2020
THPS1+2 both honors the legacy of the original games and updates it in smart ways. What made those first games so special is the care and attention they put into representing skate culture, whether it was the music, the clothing, or the gameplay itself. That’s all intact here, with all of the modern upgrades you’d expect, from realistic visuals to new music to online support.

The updated controls allow for better combo’s across every map, giving me new lines to discover, and old favorites are injected with a new life. The frame rate sticks to a smooth 60 on my PS4 Pro, and the graphics look incredible.

I love that the game gives >700 challenges to keep me interested. I also appreciate the 100’s of cosmetics I can earn by actually playing the game rather than buying a virtual currency (here’s hoping it stays that way)! This game has me excited for the first time in over a decade for the future of the Tony Hawk franchise and I’m extremely excited to see what they do next. Vicarious Visions fills that spot in my soul that only NeverSoft could do before them!

Pretty damn good remaster brings back the good ole child hood days play this game. New skaters added as well. Graphics are epic!!
