Tour de France 2019 adds some new features but the whole game doesn’t feel fresh at all. There’re not enought novelty to please the fans, who will regret the absence of some official brands.

Cycling fans will definitely enjoy the authenticity of the experience, but even they might get bored during the long legs of the tour de France. Add technical issues to the mix and you'll understand why we can't wholeheartedly recommend this.

Tour de France 2019 is probably the best in the series but it still lacks some experience and ambition to become a fantastic champion, as it is a bit disappointing technically and in terms of A.I. and novelty. Maybe next year?

An annual update just in time for the 2019 edition of the Tour De France with a few new added features. If you're a fan of the previous games, by all means go right ahead and buy this. Anyone else should steer clear even if your a fan of the sport in real life.

While Cyanide SA may have had the best intentions to ship a complete and fully-immersive racing experience that perfectly replicates the highs and lows of the Tour de France, it is evident that the 2019 edition needed a lot more time in the oven. The loading screens take way too long, the game constantly crashes mid-race, and the fast-forward option causes an obliteration of the in-game graphics. Of course, this was probably rushed out to try and coincide with the grand race that this title is based off, but it does ruin the overall experience. For cycling purists who just want a game to race in, this is fine, but its issues will test even those with a lot of patience.

For serious cycling fans it's a must. The game play really captures the highly strategic nature of world tour cycling (individual roles within a team, managing energy use etc) . I thought it would be boring, but the ability to fast forward through the processional/ attritional parts of a race and then jump into the action for attacks, climbs, sprints etc works suprisingly well. Casual players will end up with a much deeper appreciation of the sport. I hope the developers keep at it. Three developments would help the game massively : 1) Face mapping or at least an array of different faces for the riders. At the moment there is one generic rider's face. Which is weird, especially on the podium cut scenes; 2) More races. I love the fact that it has Paris Roubaix and Flanders, plus Paris - Nice, the Dauphine etc (as well as Le Tour). But a few more classics (Milan San Remo. Leige - Baston - Leige, Tour of Lombardy etc) and even the Giro d'Itlaia and Vuelta e Espana would be really help to emerse a player in the cycling season. This could be partly addressed by game players if the race editor / creator also had more options and depth ; 3) Replays - at the moment it's only the final few kms. But players really would like to see a highlight real or be able to go back and see crashes and attacks from throughout the day.

Anyway, please keep working on this game. Myself and my kids love it (all big cycling fans).

    More like 5.5 than 6.

Every year, during the month of July, the Tour de France takes place. Cyclists such as Peter Sagan or Geraint Thomas make hundreds of miles with super exhausting climbs to get precious points. This year's edition marks the 105th year of existence of the Tour de France. And while we are in the month of the Tour de France, here's Cyanide Studios launch another game dedicated to this cycling competition.

Yes, it is important to reach the goal in 1st place, but it is also essential to be in 1st place in certain sections of the stage to earn points. And in addition to the Tour de France, there are a few more competitions to attend, including Critérium Du Dauphiné, Paris-Nice, Euro Tour, Open, Tour, La Route Corse or Paris-Roubaix. On a positive note, the option to play with or against a friend of ours is available offline in these same competitions.

Compared to the 2018 edition, the Tour de France 2019 features more sprint challenges and a new classic race (Vlaanderen Classic). Now our opponents (AI) follow more realistic trajectories and make the turns more naturally, giving them a better immersion into the pack. Note that we can customize our race, for example, put a number of cyclists per team, as well as change the colors of their distinctive jerseys. At the modes level, we have two new ones, namely Pro Team and Pro Leader.

At Pro Team we trained our team in order to be invited to the best races and to hire the best cyclists. In Pro Leader we have created our rider and we have to complete missions so that our rider evolves from season to season. But the most disappointing point in the Tour de France 2019 is the lack of an online mode.

When we start a competition, we are forced to choose a team from Team Sea, Bora - Hansgrohe or Astana. But now, let's go to one of the most important parts of the game: how to play the Tour de France 2019. Okay, of course we'd better learn the basics in the tutorials and develop our skills in training. Not only do we have to be in 1st place, but we also have to lend a hand to our comrades by giving them instructions, from attacking, protecting the leader or ingesting liquids through Team Communication. But we can also change cyclists.

Regarding the gameplay itself, the player can and should use the aerodynamic position only in descents. This is to increase speed, save and recover our energies. We can control our effort, increasing or decreasing according to the situations. We can also follow some of our companions or some others through the Follow button. But this is where the technical problems of the Tour de France 2019 start. For some reason, AI in a few occasions pushes us, which forces our cyclist to do unfollow to the cyclist we were following. Fortunately or unfortunately accidents is something that there is in the Tour de France 2019. And as if that was not enough, I take with two blue screens at the end of the race. Fortunately, you can save progress at any point in the race.

In terms of graphics, Tour de France 2019 has highs and lows. If the scenarios, the equipment of the cyclists and the public are satisfactory, the same I can't say of the cars and faces of the cyclists. Seeing Peter Sagan with the same face as Quintana is too depressing. In spite of all this, the atmosphere of the public is fantastic, it even transmits what we positively feel when seeing the real proof.

Tour de France also provides us with replays after the races. But unfortunately also doesn't escape the criticism, because it is always near the end of the race, has few angles of the camera, and does not have a Photo mode. And as if that weren't enough, there are technical problems in replays. In some races, when we change cyclists, we take with 1 second loading of textures. In short, Tour de France 2019 may even be interesting for staunch cycling fans and have interesting scenarios, soft gameplay and a good atmosphere, but that's not enough. The lack of some options and the various technical problems, shows that Cyanide Studios could have done much more.

In my honest opinion, this game is not worth the money you spend on it. From awful AI, to awful graphics, I just can't recommend this game. IIn my honest opinion, this game is not worth the money you spend on it. From awful AI, to awful graphics, I just can't recommend this game. I am interested in cycling, especially the professional scene, however this game just doesn't feel good to play. The most enjoyment I've had playing is by creating and editing my own custom riders. Despite this, there is still a lot of work for improvement. You can only change names, ratings, and jerseys. If you want to create your own rider in the game, you have to choose a pre-existing rider for this. Even though it's annoying, it definitely the most fun you can have in this game (at least in my opinion). The game is in a scale of 1-5, meaning 5km in-game is equal to 1km in real life. I find that this generally takes away tension and excitement from the sprints and climbs especially, as well as rendering small hills effectively pointless. I can understand why this scale is used, but it would be nice if sprints and climbs could be made into 1-1 scale. Another big issue is the AI. On climbs, attacking is only useful if it's a summit finish or descent finish. You will usually just be reeled in within less than a minute depending on the riders chasing you. In my opinion, the AI can ruin the whole dynamic of bike racing. This will hopefully be improved in the 2020 edition. Pro-leader is just pro-team where you have your own rider and have to level him up. I don't like this game-mode because you can't join other teams, you make your own. Now we move into the positives of the game. The challenges add a whole new mode into the game that I find is good fun to play. There are a variety of challenges from mass sprints to cobbled pursuits, and I hope this is added upon in the next edition. I also like the world championship races they have added, such as Innsbruck, Brussels, and Cambridge-London. Pro-Team is also a reasonably interesting game-mode where you can choose your teammates and compete in races across the calendar.

In conclusion, the Tour De France game is probably the best cycling game out there where you actually play as the cyclists. I think the game needs a lot of work, both visually and game-play wise. This game can be enjoyed, but I would recommend saving your money until the biggest issues are fixed unless you are a hardcore cycling fan.
