Things that are important for this genre of games:

    > Interesting protagonist > Good graphics & animations > Great facial animations and lip-sync > Engaging and interesting story > Even pacing and good narrative structure > Interesting and well-written characters > Important and impactful decisions > No 'illusion of choice' > No meaningless interactions - "press X

Twin Mirror excels in none of them. It's beyond me how this game manages to learn nothing from the genre and what makes an interactive story game successful.

While not a complete waste of time, Twin Mirror is not much more.

It has a good mood but the lack of music and bugs destroyed it oftentimes for me. Sherlock games did the detective parts way better, Control did the surrealist dream parts better and even Dontnod themselves delivered several better Story's before.

In some parts it is not clear at all what you need to do and wandering around in the dream parts is just frustrating.

I paid 30 Euros for it. And it is not worth it. At all.

DONTNODs string of failures since the brilliant Life Is Strange, just got longer.

Bruh... another Dontnot trash game. It would be better if they had continued LiS instead of creating this crap.

This was no worth the $30 I spent on it. I've really been into these types of games lately and when I saw a new 2020 one, I thought it should be pretty good. I was wrong. It's exceptionally short to the point it was impossible to have good character development. If the 5 hours of game play had been really good then it would have been worth the money but it was not. It was boring, there really wasn't much interaction with objects and the game world. Really it was a lot of just listening to Sam's bland dialogue. The plotline was not thrilling at all. I'm not picky with games but this was truly disappointing. And the whole "going into Sam's mind" sequences were not exciting the way they potentially could have. I found myself wanting those parts to hurry up and be done. I feel bad for giving such a bad review but I truly don't understand what the creators were thinking. Expand

This game is so boring! It feels like they have tried to make the main character neurodivergent but he actually just comes across as really dull and insensitive. It felt like none of the choices really affected anything and the game is quite glitchy on PS4 - at one point there is a character who is just a floating head because her body never loads. A big disappointment after the brilliant Life is Strange. Expand

More like DontNod off to sleep. I actually wish this game was forgettable, but it will stick in my mind for how truly boring it was. It takes about 5 hours to complete, but will feel like 50 so you'll get your money's worth in that regard. Avoid.

Regardless of the bizarre lip movements, Twin Mirror is an excellent adventure game. Not only was I enthralled by its mystery, I was absolutely enamored with the presentation. I wasn’t expecting something so filmlike and cinematic, but I walked away delighted and I can say that some of its powerful scenes will stay with me for a while.

Is Dontnod Entertainment a one-hit wonder? It seems so, judging by those past few years. Twin Mirror is a bang average adventure game you’ll finish in one forgettable afternoon.

Sam is implied to be neurodivergent, and is forced to pick between masking his differences for a happy ‘normal’ life or living authentically but miserably in a forced existence. Twin Mirror is bleak, often flawed and far from Dontnod’s best work – case closed. [Issue#184, p.91]
