UnderMine is a ridiculously easy game to recommend. If you are at all a fan of roguelite games, you owe it to yourself to pick this up at your earliest convenience. UnderMine demonstrates clear mastery in its overall design, controls, upgrade systems and presentation, which all come together to make for a thoroughly engrossing experience. The one caveat is that those of you who are sick of roguelites won’t find anything to change your mind here; if you fall in that camp, it’s perhaps best to take a pass, even if you're essentially missing out on one of the best examples of the whole genre. Otherwise, we’d give UnderMine a high recommendation; this is absolutely worth your time.
As far as roguelike dungeon crawlers go, UnderMine is firm but fair. There's no need to go into this game bracing yourself for a barrage of beatdowns like you would with others of its ilk, but you're also not going to get very far if you think that a slower approach to the roguelike experience means an objectively easier one. I know that my tastes are not representative of everyone else's. However, I'd still like to confidently state that UnderMine is a must-play for anyone who fancies themselves a roguelike fan.
Solid game with beautiful graphics. Progression makes you want to play another round. RNG some times does not favor you but that is not a serious problem. Lovely game that keeps on giving.
Two things are a bit of a let down. First is the lack of local coop, it would be a blast and second is the music, no variety at all and gets annoying fairly quick.
There are dozens of hours to be spent with UnderMine, and many more if you want to complete the 96 in-game achievements and find every partner familiar, item, and potion. Without question, Thorium Entertainment has struck gold with UnderMine, and it’s a worthy addition to the Switch’s stable of rogue-ish titles.
UnderMine fills the shoes of a roguelite game in a very effective way.
Not only does the game implement the roguelite conventions right, it
also features an excellent system of relics and curses and a simple but
competent combat. While it may not look like the slickest game ever
made, there's more than enough in Undermine to lock in players for many,
many hours.
It’s very well-constructed and polished to an impressive degree. But it doesn’t do anything particularly unexpected, and for some people that may be enough to make them want to take a pass.
Undermine is a clever rogue-lite with plenty of pixel art charm. The gameplay and design elements come together to create a fun, addictive experience that’ll appeal to action arcade gamers and RPG fans alike.
UnderMine is perfectly content to work in existing mine shafts instead of boring new ones, and it's a stronger experience for it. It's a comfortable, rewarding dungeon crawler with a unique identity and plenty of fun on offer. If you’re looking for something fresh and innovative, you’ll want to look elsewhere. Just know you’re missing out on a darn good time if you do.
I thoroughly enjoy Undermine. The game keeps me coming back for more and if my character dies, I know it was my fault and not the game being cheap. I highly recommend this game.
This game is okay although there's nothing new in the formula. It's like a chill mix between BoI and Rogue Legacy, without what made those classics. And it's in pixel art.
It's not a bad game at all - but if you already played a lot of roguelites, then you won't be surprised and you already know most of the formula.
Undermine is a solid roguelite that is let down by an rng system that tends to throw a **** of enemies and traps at you that will **** up your entire run. The game is also very grindy. Games like this expose how indie devs use roguelites to padd out short gameplay experiences. Look at Binding of isaac which has variations to the levels different possible bosses you can fight and powerups that can change your playstyle, this game lacks that variety and is best played in short burst due to its tendency of getting repetitive. Decent game if you can get it on sale.
SummaryAn action-adventure roguelike with a bit of RPG tossed in. Adventure deep into the UnderMine and discover powerful relics, deadly enemies, hidden secrets, and a few friends to help along the way.
