It didn’t take long for Vikings to bludgeon those expectations into a meaty, undulating pulp.

Vikings: Wolves of Midgard is a very competent entry to action RPG genre with few caveats. Peppered among the well detailed Norse mythology inspired locales are occasional performance issues and a formulaic story. While notable, these do not detract from a fun and satisfying hack and slash experience. It must be hard to challenge a king of the genre like Diablo, but Vikings: Wolves of Midgard is a brilliant alternative to the Blizzard giant.

In terms of story and mythology this game is not that exciting. On the other hand, it feels great to overpower big trolls and fat bosses. Vikings Wolves of Midgard is a great game for everyone who wants something other than Diablo.

While a little unpolished, Vikings – Wolves of Midgard is over-the-top fun.

There’s a lot to like in Vikings, even if the game’s never able to effectively articulate how it’s different to the genre’s greats. It manages - just - to be more than a by-the-numbers Diablo clone thanks to the creative energy that went into its bosses and environment design, but it relies too heavily on that, and the assumption that you’ll be playing the game in multiplayer. As a single player experience, the limits on what Vikings can offer become distracting; making it good for a lazy afternoon of grinding fun, but not something that you’ll remember over the longer term.

This title has some good ideas, but it doesn't really shine when executing any of them. It can be a good option if you love the genre, but there are better alternatives out there.

A distinctly below average hack-and-slash game with better examples of the genre already out there.

The action is enjoyable, graphics are decent for the genre and the Viking setting and mythos is a fresh take. The full price is a bit steep for this title as there isn't an actual endgame as of yet but it is something the DEVs are looking into. I've enjoyed my ride and I'm holding on to the game in the hopes there will be added content in the future.

Oh and the developers are a small indie house, considering that they did really good. I'm kinda romantically hoping that they will put my 50€ to a better use than a big developer would.

This is a game where I can understand some polarized reviews. I myself have love hate for this game but I'm very glad it's in my game libraryThis is a game where I can understand some polarized reviews. I myself have love hate for this game but I'm very glad it's in my game library now. You see the game starts off very slow, easy and cheesy and doesn't make a next generation wow effect. Those who stay with it tho will realize this game is essentially a mixture of many successful games of the past. This is essentially a very large blend of champions of Norrath series more so than diablo. There are parts of this game which seem to be inspired by the original diablo, sacred 2 and mostly the ps2 games dark alliance return to arms and champions of Norrath. This is where I can see the polarized reviews coming from. Next generation players will not understand this is essentially an extremely large updated last generation style game and think it sucks. Those of us who still enjoy or reminisce over last generation games will go squirrelly as this game is essentiall a wish come true of a massively made awesome ps2 style game with improved graphics and environment making use of next generation data storage space. I almost ran into this trap by not playing it enuf before reviewing. At first I thought it was pretty lame but the more I advanced I realized how large and awesome this game was. That said, it took a long time for this game to get rolling, basically it doesn't heat up until 3/4 through the first play through. From there and into ng+ it's pretty incredible. The game has a lot of software glitchiness. Most of the earlier problems upon release have been correct however some annoyances remain. The developers are supporting fixing their errors very well but it is still a peeve of mine at times. Still, I started off thinking this game was not that great and the more I'm playing it the more I'm reversing that opinion. i would recommend this game to players who enjoy the simplicity of last generation games in a more massive setting and maybe say buyer beware to more fussy next generation gamers there is nothing new and innovative in this game. Vikings: Wolves of Midgard
    Surprisingly enjoyable
Wolves of Midgard is a diablo style hack and slash game that you can play solo or online if you can find someone where you play as a male or female Viking to save the world from the frost and fire giants
The character you choose does change the story and dialog slightly, but both campaigns are the same But it will hardly matter as really the story just became static before too long, I had no interest in what was going on..
But I still managed to enjoy my time with this game…
But that’s not the only reason this game is surprisingly enjoyable…
Its mostly a surprise because of how repetitive it really is…
Every mission from start to finish is the same
and the dungeons here all start looking the same after a while as well…
plus the loot isn’t really that cool..
But I still enjoyed my time slicing through enemies and swapping out gear… collecting their blood to level up….
When you do level up you get skill points to spend on a tree based off of a norse god..
These gods are attached to weapons though which is just a little annoying…
And theres a level cap of 30 here… so it isn’t as simple as just grinding for your new favorite weapon
it forces you to have to choose your weapon type early on before you get a chance to play with them all or even see what youre going to get in the future… if you want to be as powerful as possible
because unlocked skills in each tree as gifts from the gods…
Theyre special moves and attacks you can do during battles that can only be done with certain weapons equipped…
The combat here feels fairly satisfying…
Theres decent challenge here and youre able to roll to dodge attacks… but there isn’t much more to it than hit and dodge and throw down some special attacks….
And at the end of each level theres a boss…
the bosses are pretty cool, only 1 or 2 gave me any trouble though…
And they feel varied enough to still be an enjoyable endcap to each level..
After youre done with this 10 hour campaign you can start again in new game plus, capped out at level 30.. but your gifts do carry over or play as the other character….
there isn’t much incentive to do either though… especially due to the low level cap…
    I enjoyed myself..
but theres nothing here that youll want to experience more than once…
Wolves of Midgard is an enjoyable experience..
You wont regret playing it.. but its nothing special…
I give Vikings: Wolves of Midgard
    a 7/10

Everything after this - worthless. U get everything deleted except of your skilltree (even the +% of whatever by leveling up - deleted!)
So, if u wanna buy a game with 12h content and scripted loot....
