  • Summary: Visage is a first-person psychological horror game. Explore a mysterious ever-changing house in a slow-paced, atmospheric world that combines both uncannily comforting and horrifyingly realistic environments, and enjoy a genuinely terrifying experience.

Visage feels like the culmination of ten years of indie survival horror. A fantastic (and terrifying) game that doesn’t really do anything new, but does everything really well.

As a psychological horror that uses one of the most iconic horror games of the last-gen as its inspiration, it works incredibly well. I never thought walking down a hallway in a game could fill me with such dread, but every single staircase, hallway, and door ramped my anxiety all the way up. In all honesty, for the first couple of days, I could only play it for 10 minutes at a time before I had to call it quits. As someone who watches horror movies all the time, getting me to tap out before you even scare is a feat to be proud of. By that measure, Visage should be bursting with pride!

A great example for psychological horror, unfortunately held back by some frustrating puzzle designs and the laborious door and inventory handling.

Visage has so much going for it as a horror experience that even the most frustrating control issues are easily forgiven. The deep themes of dread and trauma may be too much for more casual gamers who just want a good jolt, but Visage is an absolute must for hardcore horror fans looking for some substance behind their scares.

A genuinely scary and intriguing horror portmanteau which overcomes the fiddly inventory system and slightly repetitive environs through its inventive interpretation of its film and game influences. If you're a horror fan who wants to find out how Konami's P.T. may have turned out, you'd be hard pushed to find a more terrifying surrogate.

Visage isn’t going to be for every horror fan. It’s slower pace, difficult puzzles and lack of direction are going to make many struggle, but that’s also kind of the point. For every moment where I didn’t know what to do and felt like I was on a wild goose chase, there was another moment of gratification for finally figuring it out. Throughout all of those moments, I was scared and that’s indicative that even if I didn’t, Visage knows what it’s doing.

Games like Man of Medan & LITTLE Hope tried, but they cannot compete with this game. It really gets into your head. I can’t recommend this enough to fans of any horror/mystery genre. I play in the dark with 7.1 headphones or surround sound on and I can tell you that that makes a difference too. The sound work in this game is amazing. It truly feels like things are behind or beside you. Expand

The visuals, sound effects and overall atmosphere is just simply astonishing and eerie. This won't be a disappointment, if you have a true appreciation for horror games.

The menu handling could be better but this is just a very small issue in my opinion. Take into consideration, there's 1 level designer, 1 gameplay programmer, 1 sound designer, 1 composer and finally 1 3D character modeler.

This is a fantastic masterpiece and it will set new standards for upcoming horror games. It's beautifully designed and you recognize the heart they put into this.

    Highly recommended!

After the chapter, find and give a look to all the VHS for the ending.
It was a nice run, best horror game you can play in the market.
    Good luck...you will need it!

Pretty good horror game. It is apparent how much it was inspired by great survival horror games past. Aesthetics and atmosphere are similarPretty good horror game. It is apparent how much it was inspired by great survival horror games past. Aesthetics and atmosphere are similar to Silent Hill: The Room. The gameplay is a mix of Layers of Fear and Amnesia. The game starts off in a simple home with an unusually large amount of space, but goes in branching pathways of mind and memory that can lead to some excellent visuals.

Controls are pretty bad even by survival horror standards. Cumbersome switching of left and right hand items to perform even simple actions. No ingame pausing. Paranormal activity randomly occurs around you like lights going on, making it too dark to find the switch to turn them back on, or eventually getting to a point where your sanity is threatened and your character dies.

Very buggy. Sometimes key items don't appear unless you reload multiple times. As of this date there's 1 game breaking bug currently on the ps5 involving the console not being to auto-save correctly during the indifference mask-piece quest that eventually crashes the game. This effectively makes the true ending unobtainable on the ps5. I'm not deducting points for this, since it's console-specific, but be aware.

Cons: Controls, unclear objectives, slow movement, unclear narrative and ending. Dolores Chapter: 9/10 Rest of the chapters 6/10. Overall Score 6/10. This game excels in the horror aspect but the actual gameplay can feel like a chore. I loved exploring the house and trying to solve the puzzles. Being chased by ghosts and not being able to do anything but run away was frustrating especially during parts of pitch black darkness. This game will literally test your sanity, persistence, and endurance to push through. It's like the Dark Souls of horror games. They pretty much nailed the horror aspect. If they worked on the gameplay to make it more fun and less tedious, I think it would be one of the best horror games ever made. Expand
