A mental genre mash-up that fuses the best of idle clickers with actual gameplay mechanics, Vostok Inc probably should come with a health warning. This may not be the best twin-stick shooter you’ll play on the PlayStation 4, but by mixing and matching mechanics from different titles it unleashes a beast that’s greater than the sum of its parts. Play responsibly – but most importantly, play.

While its individual parts aren’t anything particularly special, Vostok Inc. melds those parts into a unique, amusing, and compelling whole. The manner in which developer Nosebleed Interactive has fused a clicker game to a twin-stick shooter and made sense of it is impressive. A rather nice surprise.

Vostok Inc. is a funny game where you play as Jimmy Goldmann, a true capitalist CEO. It's a good game, but it has a problem: it's so repetitive if you play seven or eight hours (or more).

Vostok Inc. is strange in a good way and fun, but not for long. It has some interesting ideas, but it needs to be deeper to keep the player entertained for more than a couple of hours.

The shooting is fun, and there's some chuckle-worthy writing but once you realise you're doing the same things over and over again, it falls flat. [Oct 2017, p.95]

You actually fly around the solar system (and eventually half a dozen other) blowing up asteroids, and alien ships. You then land on planets to buy upgrades that will earn you an ever growing pile of money....

You use the money to buy upgrades to get more money, upgrade your ship, and unlock new abilities.

Its your typical clicker gameplay treadmill, but it replaces mindless button presses with fairly enjoyable twin stick space combat and exploration.

There are some interesting ideas included, like minigames to earn bonuses, and boss battles.

Its far more engaging that your standard "clicker" but will probably be best in small doses . I can even foresee a weekend long addiction to those increasing numbers, but it there isnt enough here to keep you going for weeks as your primary game option.

That said, its the most interesting game ive played in the genre, so far.

The price point, especially on saie.....which is how i got it, is more than worth it if you enjoy this kind of game.

Overall, id give Vostok, INC big points for expanding the genre, and finding unique ways to add depth to what is usually a shallow game play loop. You can tell more care went into the game then most of this type, and its personality is a plus.

If you have any interest in this sort of game, i would recommend giving this one a try.

Id love to see this formula expanded even farther, and after Vostok, INC, i think Badland Games has the skills to make something that transcends the description "clicker"--
