Warriors All-Stars is a delight. It’s explicitly a love letter to the Koei Tecmo faithful, and it doesn’t pretend to be otherwise.

On one level, it’s incredibly satisfying just to see popular characters from various franchises hanging out with one another. Especially when the franchises are as incredibly different as these – what could William from Nioh possibly have to say to Ayane from Ninja Gaiden? A lot more than one would think, apparently. Beyond the fan-friendly concept, the developers have put together one of the strongest and most playable musou titles, ever, and is a beautiful thing that will satisfy both genre fans and newcomers alike.

Despite the absence of the co-op and the free mode, Warriors All-Stars succeeds in bringing fans of the genre a lot of action, imbued with a lot of well known characters from the Koei Tecmo roster.

Warriors All Stars brings some of Koei Tecmo’s most famous characters into the Dynasty Warriors format, including characters taken straight from the aforementioned series. While a few extra bells and whistles are added here and there, along with much improved character variety, it’s still a Dynasty Warriors game at its heart—and that’s not a bad thing. Fans of the series will still love this, despite an underwhelming narrative set in a cliché new world.

Warriors All Stars is definitely a game for fans of Koei Tecmo and musou games, filled with many interesting character interactions. Sadly, even with a nice battle system, it just feels average.

The only valid reason you might want to welcome it is represented by the genuine presence of many Koei Tecmo icons, some of which could play a strong nostalgia on fans.

Warriors All-Stars is a colourful hack and slash title that can be fun in short bursts thanks to its varied cast of playable characters, but it just has too many problems to be considered a good Warriors game. Frustrating, tedious mission design, a throwaway story, and a wildly unstable framerate make it very difficult to recommend when there are so many better Koei Tecmo titles on the market.

There are many series, such as Ninja Gaiden, Atelier, DoA and many more with characters to pick from. The game can be beaten in just a few hours, but going through as each of your favorite characters can mean you can see how your favorite characters interact and interpret this strange world they have been transported to! If you aren't a big fan of any of the series, or don't like fairly simple combat, this game may not be for you, but it is really neat as a long time Tecmo fan! Expand

    Warriors All Stars
    Repetetive but Still fun
Warriors All Stars is a Dynsaty Warriors game where you choose 1 of 12 character all from different koei tecmo games, only one of them speaking english.. that being William from nioh.. other than William, if you don’t understand japenese, youll be reading subtitles throughout the entire journey as there are no other English voice actors…
But the worlds greatest heroes have been summoned to save a world and they cant go back home until they do so, so you set out with your selected hero and your 2 companions to go gather the other heroes that were spread across the land..
theres a base where you can trade, craft, and accept tasks…
But theres a map with missions all over it.. main story missions as well as missions to recruit heroes, obtain cards, gold, and materials…
Depending on the difficulty you play this game on, you may not need to focus much on these side missions that are just more of the same..
Sticking to the main story will allow you to beat this games campaign in about 10 and a half hours, and story missions gave me plenty of cards and materials to do just this…
Despite the character you choose at the beginning, you are not stuck with playing as this character…
you have a team of 3 but you set out to recruit more to eventually have a party of 5..
Like every other dynasty warriors game your goal is to just get to the main points on the map until victory…
But as you journey through these maps youll run into monster enemies with a bravery level..
you have to defeat these monsters to raise your bravery as it resets every battle..
So it’s a balance of hunting weaker monsters down so you can take down the stronger monsters for the main tasks..
there are also points on the map you can take over to be able to refill your health for example…
You play as your groups leader which can be swapped out with any character you recruit before you start a battle…
    while the other 4 follow…
There are only 12 characters to choose from at the start, but by the campaigns end youll have around 30 to choose from…
This game impressively feels like it has no loading, when youre ready its ready…
while youre in battle you can use your 4 characters to do a special move on a cool down meter, but a mechanic I thought was really cool is that also on a cool down meter is the ability to use any of the 4 characters briefly in combat - this allows you to get a feel for them without the commitment of making them leader
that way its much easier to find your favorite character that suits your play style the most…
the combat here is fairly simple…
you have a light attack and heavy attack, you can do and unlock combos as you level up, youre also able to dodge and roll…
and again use special moves from your allies as well as pull off your own special move from a meter that’s filled by defeating enemies…
But there is also a rush ability.. activating rush will cause an infinite amount of enemies to storm in while youre invincible and try to kill as many as possible for the best rewards, this rush is also useful for tough to deal with enemies… as they cant stun you or hurt you while you get in some free damage ignoring everything around you if youd like as smaller enemies are just there, posing no threat whatsoever…
youll also pick up cards off of enemies that can be assigned to your party members to boost their stats, youll also level up their friendship towards you for friendship gifts and to run into them in the bathhouse
annoyingly though while your party members do level up.. their card will only level up if that character is the leader… almost making cards pretty useless…
and I only say almost because you can craft and find better cards with slots to add abilities to and slap them on your party members
And that’s it.. this is the game…if you’ve played 1 battle you’ve played them all… its that repetitive..
but I still actually enjoyed my time with this game..
I wasn’t blown away but despite every mission feeling exactly the same, I was having fun all 10 and a half hours
things did get a little annoying towards the end where id have to actually strategize because it turns into a bit of a baby sitter mode where you can lose the battle and have to restart if an ally dies, but luckily this only happened to me twice through the whole campaign, and I didn’t mind that much having to strategize a little bit..
There isn’t really anything special here…
The game is fun, but it’s the same throughout, the story is throwaway,
Everyone is speaking in Japanese during battles so I had no idea what was going on and couldn’t break my focus to read the text…
Warrior All Stars is just an okay game
    I give Warrior All Stars
    a 6.5/10

This is indeed quiteThe novelty of this game is that characters area drawn in from different franchises such as Nioh and Ninja Gaiden. This is indeed quite enjoyable and breathes life into an aging concept that are the Warriors games.

The downsides for me are the limited game modes and the drops in framerate. There can be many enemies on the screen at once, so framerate drops were understandable in previous generations, however I think that on a PS4 Pro this is not acceptable and also makes the game harder to play as the screen can jerk at crucial moments.

Secondly are the limited characters to play as. Of course, you can unlock a nice array of characters, but the story is very short and when I restarted it I was presented with only the three original characters again, making it very repetitive to unlock them all and resulting in me seeking out online guides, which is rarely a sign of a good game.

Still, if you enjoy the series and were let down by DW9 like most of us, this could fill the DW gap in your life, but not for long.

It's not a bad game though. To give you some perspective, I primarily look for good stories and don't care much about action gameplay I normally prefer strategic or turn-based mechanics. I picked this game up because it was $12 and included Sophie.

The primary point of this game is to kill hordes of (repetitive) enemies. If you're the sort of person who won't get tired of that after 100 hours, then this game might be for you.

To give my perspective on the combat: you go into a map, head to the exclamation points and kill everything in the vicinity. Repeat until there's no more exclamation points. You then finish the mission and get some story dialogue. There's no variation. Repeat this process about 100 times to complete the game. There was a bit more combat variation in Dragon Quest Heroes.

Very little here links the gameplay to the story. The gameplay is obviously the focus here and the story was just built around it.

if you like any of the characters here, you'll get a bit of fun out playing them in this different situation. All of the characters are true to their origins and are written well: although don't expect any new groundbreaking background information from them.

Compared to Dragon Quest Heroes, the story here is just a bit more mature (but still teen-focused). There's no "power of friendship" moments, although did get a bit corny near the end. There's also plenty of side-story content that is unlocked based on what characters you've found. For example: locate all of the evil characters and they'll go on their own rampage (story-wise) and even have their own special ending.

There's 4 major story routes that basically take you on the same journey from different perspectives. It's a standard "save the world" sort of story, but it's done well enough. There's no huge plot holes or a books-worth of useless dialogue (which seems to be common in recent JRPGs).

I'm disappointed in the extras the game has to offer:

    - There's bath scenes where your characters are sitting/standing around in towels (the girls) and give you one or two lines of dialogue. These are potentially unlocked each time you go into the bath. But only the dialogue is actually unlocked and there's a big chart in-game that shows you which ones you've seen and lets you replay the dialogue only. So yeah, no good fan service here.

    - Like the bath scene chart, there's a friendship chart with even more dialogue that can be unlocked based on your friendship level with other characters. Again, this chart is only for dialogue and gives you nothing else.

    - When increasing your friendship levels, you also get some extra stats in battle. But this won't be anything noticeable to you on the normal difficulty level.

So the majority of the unlockables consist of check boxes that give you small bits of extra dialogue. I suppose they also unlock trophies, but I'm lucky enough to have not gotten addicted to trophy collecting for the sake of trophy collecting.

    - There's no extra costumes in-game.

    - After a character has enough friends, you get access to a model viewer. Zoom in/out and rotate are your only options and you only get the default pose. If you want to see other angles or poses, you're better off doing that in one of the game's missions. So yeah, the model viewer is mostly useless.

It felt like a step back from previous games in every way. 100% recycled maps from other games and nothing interesting to do on those maps besides take over bases and kill officers. Procedurally generated missions are supposed to pad out the length but can be completely ignored. And the characters are not given their own story lines or missions, they're just all lumped together and you're expected to fight the same storyline missions over and over to get the multiple endings. I got bored halfway through and this is from someone who platinums every other Musou game. Expand

Never before that I have to stop playing a Koei title without complete story mode. Looking back at the mesmerizing Dynasty warriors 8 XL, Warriors Orchi series, this game is just a shame for the Warriors title. I have had a high hope for it when it first came out (even paying a full price) but now all I have is regret. Expand
