  • Summary: In WRC 5, you can start to drive at early morning, in the middle of the day, during the sunset or even during the night. These different moments of the day allow you to experience various atmospheres (morning fog, dazzling sunset) and the headlights’ ramp will be very useful for the night stages.

WRC 5 is surprisingly good for a studio’s debut in the rally games genre but it’s pretty obvious that the developer ran out of time and money too fast. [13/2015, p.39]

WRC 5 really is the most fun I’ve had with a racer this year, giving you a phenomenal handling model, sticking you on a course and largely leaving you to attack it. What more could you want?

Rough around the edges, yet with plenty of fun to be had. [Christmas 2015, p.94]

WRC 5 on the PlayStation 4 is good rally game but is lacking that next-gen feel and look.

It really is just a "mixed bag" of a game because it doesn't know to which audience it refers to. It is never truly casual and certainly not a simulation game. As a result almost no one will truly be satisfied with what Kylotonn delivered.

New engine, new developer and hundreds of experts are, apparently, not enough. Kylotonn Games does not deliver what should be the best rally game in 2015. Full licenses and good graphics, but the physics are totally off. Combining annoying co-drivers and crashing into objects that aren't there makes this the most disappointing WRC yet.

The game is fun and driving mechanics are not that difficult to get used to and it generally feels a little arcade like. There are options however to make the game more difficult for those who want to. But otherwise a really solid rally game that anyone who loves rally will enjoy. Expand

Despite graphics aren´t bad at all, there´re screen tearing, some framerate drops and some low resolution textures. They seem good if it was old generation. The best part was the sound.

The cars and scenery look nice, but that isRecent pick up, and yes, although it's a good few years old now, this thing is a pile of garbage. The cars and scenery look nice, but that is where the praise ends. The front end and menus are basic and pointless. The driving school is not rewarding, it feels like more of a slog than the stages to pass something you just don't care about. Career mode is a basic, messy, and simplistic joke (I completed S1 in J-WRC in 1st place in the standings, only to get told I finished 2nd in the championship). Then in WRC2 you start 4 races into the season, with no hope of winning. An endless slog.

However, the biggest flaw here is the rallies and stages themselves. Uninspired design (2 left, 2 right, 2 left, 2 right) leaves you weaving through tight corners constantly wishing and praying for a straight to get some speed up. Then repeating it only with your headlights on and a poorly added "fog effect". It feels as though the game was designed and developed by people with little or no knowledge of how Rallying works because you can cut as many corners as you want and run as wide as you like without God resetting you to the middle of the track as if he were playing with his slot cars. I can see why though, the further you wander from the road the less detail the background has, so a reset is there to hide poor workmanship. I'd understand if these backgrounds weren't so bland. Many old Rally games on PS1 and 2 had some breathtaking locations and felt real, this is just poor.

The cars are disconnected from the tracks graphically. Mud just seems to kick up from them from nowhere, just because "it's meant to" but it doesn't change regardless of speed. They receive damage from nowhere (I'm sure we've all seen the boot pop open and all 4 corners of the suspension just collapse) which can be nothing to a complete failure regardless of whether you slammed into a wall or not.

Overall it feels like an unfinished arcade racer. Tomorrow I play WRC6, hoping for a slight bit of growth.
