A great detour from the classic Japanese series, which shows that the Yakuza can work with turn-based battles and a ton of bizarre humor. [Issue#309]

Everything about this game screams 'I'm a wacky spin-off', but in reality Like A Dragon might even be the best game in the franchise. So put aside your prejudice and give this Yakuza-game a fair chance. You won't regret it for a second.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon is a wonderful addition to the franchise. It hits the mark with a likeable new protagonist and an engaging new combat system without losing what makes Yakuza great. It suffers from issues like a low difficulty (another Yakuza staple), but it features top-notch humor and charm. If you like Yakuza, then you'll like Like A Dragon. It is everything that makes the series great and is one of the freshest entries since Yakuza 0.

Yakuza Like a Dragon shifts to a turn based fighting system which adds a new tactical layer to the game, and adopts a new character which we liked a lot ! Overall there isn't much to dislike about that new entry in the series.

This new Yakuza is a good Yakuza, there’s no doubt about that. The doubts will arise only when you try to compare it to Persona 5 because Like a Dragon’s new features could be more pronounced - and closer to Persona’s genius.

Offering a unique brand of tongue-in-cheek escapism that should induce a laugh roughly every five minutes, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a perfect lockdown game. The one unintentionally amusing element is the voice acting, which you can thankfully eliminate by opting to keep the original Japanese dialogue with subtitles. Sega’s Yakuza games have always seemed like a well-kept secret, but they’ve recently been enjoying much more appreciation abroad. If you like the idea of a very Japanese, gangster-themed, interactive comedy soap opera, you’ll absolutely adore it.

Yakuza’s comeback shows off a great fighting system, while the tasks that you’re following are tedious and boring.

Just get it and play it. It's that simple. Awesome characters and story and great new combat system.

Runs like a champ, never a dull moment with the story and side quests being both equally ridiculous/funny and serious/captivating. Turn based combat which is a personal favorite of mine. This game deserved to be mention as a GOTY candidate. People are bombing this game because they hate the turn based combat and I find that is completely unfair of them Expand

Great main story with great characters, rightfully regarded as one of the best in the entire Yakuza series by many people. I played throughGreat main story with great characters, rightfully regarded as one of the best in the entire Yakuza series by many people. I played through all of the substories as well, pretty much never touched those in the older games so I can't draw a comparison, but I feel like they are a mixed bag overall. Some are very predictable and drawn out, without any interesting payoff (neither the story itself nor the rewards). Others are either sweet and touching or absolutely hilarious. Made me laugh out loud quite a few times. Definitely helps that the English dub is consistently excellent, a noticeable step up from the already good Judgment dub.

Combat is decent fun and during close to 70 hours of playtime never got boring for me, which is quite the achievement, because usually, I find turn based systems to get old and repetitive sooner rather than later. It definitely needs some polishing if they stick with it though, and I hope they do, as it certainly has potential.

My main gripe is the endless cut scenes and rather inane story, The combat and overall grinding does very little to differentiate this from Persona and any other JRPG. It felt great for over half the game until I attempted to level up for Level 20 and above. The battles become relentless and even using Auto, it can be tiresome. Expand
