    YIIK? More like YIIKES.

    Dissonant art style with what it is aiming for, tries to have a concept but ends up shallow, characters are just cringy and boring, too pretentious, combat is an uninteresting rhythm game, story is random hot **** etc.

    YIIK is a incredible take on classic JRPG's with a modern twist. What seems like a crazy world filled with random things turns out to be one of the most though provoking games I have played in recent years.

    This game captures the imagination, keeps making you ask more and more questions and provides answers in a way which will leave you to really think over the story to truly understand    YIIK is a incredible take on classic JRPG's with a modern twist. What seems like a crazy world filled with random things turns out to be one of the most though provoking games I have played in recent years.

    This game captures the imagination, keeps making you ask more and more questions and provides answers in a way which will leave you to really think over the story to truly understand what is going on. This is a refreshing take from most games where they spell it out so easily and strongly without giving the gamer the time to reflect or to really take in what it happening.

    The battle system can get some getting used to making the game very difficult early in, however once you are accustom to this you can speed up battles and really feel the huge difference in power from when you started.

    One of the best points of this game is the sound track. This game has such a huge mix of crazy music it is sure to have something for nearly everyone. I personally have found myself humming some of the songs from this game days after finishing it.

    All in all i loved my time i spent with Alex and his friends, if you play this game go in with an open mind, expect the story to come together slowly and spend a lot of time thinking and questioning all you have seen.

    Between the unusual character arc at its core, funky beats, and rhythm-based beatdowns, YIIK has a lot more to offer the RPG genre than just doomsaying. J[Issue#159, p.83]

    I was annoyed by the writing and combat and a pervasive and unwarranted “too cool for school” attitude that began with the character creation screen and never really went away. Streamline the dialogue and expository overkill, re-tool the combat and YIIK: A Postmodern RPG would be closer to those classic games from which it draws inspiration.

    A weird game in terms of concept but a good one nonetheless. If you grew up in the’90’s, there is a ton of references to that era. The length of the game is outstanding as well which makes for great value for money. The controls aren’t perfect all the time though and the music tracks can get a little bit repetitive but don’t let that stop you from purchasing what is a very original and fun game.
