Metro Exodus on PS5 is one of the best survival wastelands to explore on the new console. With enhanced textures, stunning ray-tracing and global illumination, and immersive DualSense implementation, what is on offer here is an experience like no other. If you skipped it on PS4 or want to play again, there are ample enhancements here that make the Moscow Wasteland worth exploring all over again.

One of PS4’s best and most underrated shooters pulls out all the stops on PS5. A technical marvel that goes full steam ahead on Sony’s new console. [Issue#4, p.76]

Metro Exodus Complete Edition is the tightest and one of the most beautiful atmospheric and visual experiences you can afford. It is a truly artistic masterpiece that is helped by a solid story and excellent level design. It may be a bit tough and unfitting for certain audiences due to its slow gameplay and big surroundings that may take a long time to get around.

Metro Exodus looks and plays better than ever before on consoles with this version. Exodus is a great game, and whether you haven’t played it yet or just want to replay it, the ray tracing and the DualSense’s features makes it worth your time.

Despite looking pretty impressive the first time round, the visual upgrades alone to Metro Exodus make it a worth entry in the PS5’s catalogue. It might help to play the others first, but when this is the conclusion, it looks and plays too good not to. Just work on those trigger-pulling muscles for the haptic feedback.

The end result is a vastly improved version of what is by far the best title set in Dmitry Glukhovsky’s apocalyptic Russia – even if the voice work, in English at least, is uneven to put it kindly.

Is Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition worth picking up? It absolutely is for the price it’s being sold at. It’s a little over 30 quid/dollars and with the DLC and took me about 20-25 hours to get through with a young puppy in the house. It obviously includes the base game, but also comes with the story DLC that came out with the expansion pass. Both add new narrative beats to the game. But where Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition really lets itself down is the execution of the world it is based in. Sure, crafting an arsenal to butcher hundreds of faceless bandits is fun. But Metro Exodus’ complex post-apocalyptic world has such a deep lore, begging to explored properly.

The sound is great, the graphics are incredible (possibly the best in world right now). The NPC AI is impressive, particually re: organic interactions (no button presses to talk and hear the same line over and over). Usually I skip all the stuff between action in games but I found myself exploring the train for about an hour between missions! The game feels like a more realistic Fallout 4 survival mode.

I would give it a 10 if the Russian voice acting was better and they fixed the gamma issues. There's also a bug where your blood/damage overlay does not recognise increased field of views.

Metro Exodus is a fitting end to this saga. The game looks and plays better in every way compared to its predecessors, looks great as a PS5Metro Exodus is a fitting end to this saga. The game looks and plays better in every way compared to its predecessors, looks great as a PS5 game, and opens up the world of Metro. You can probably find this title on sale for $10 or less on PSN, and you should definitely buy it and play it.

This is no Call of Duty. You will not be mowing down hundreds of enemies as you approach your objective. The crux of this game is stealth and survival. The stealth component works very well. Enemies are not easily startled and playing smart often has rewards further in the game. The surival portion of the game is familiar to the first two Metro games if not a easier. You can pick up crafting items and make some of the things you need in the field or at strategically placed workbenches. The wastelands are littered with metal boxes full of crafting items. As a player, you can find what you need at the expensive of immersion.

Metro Exodus is all about immersion. NPCs have lengthy conversations as you walk by. Stay and listen to their stories or leave and go back to shooting enemies. The immersion extends further into skeuomorphism. Metro Exodus harkens back to a more civilized time when maps looked like maps and gas masks go over the head. This use of real life objects slows down the game but that is part of the point. Metro games are not about blasting through to end. This is an experience.

The story is top tier, one of the best that a AAA shooter can deliver. After Metro 2033, you find out that there is life outside the Metro. Now you get to see it. The plot is broken out into a journey, like an epic poem from the classical era. Each portion of the journey is a different map to explore. The game is not a true open world game, but also does not feel as confining as a corridor shooter. The level design guides the player to objectives, and the lethality of the fauna discourages straying too far off the path. Open world games often feel meandering and pointless. Good gameplay comes from good design.

The shooting and fighting are a bit janky but overall feel appropriate for this world. Each gun has a different feel and unique post-apolocalyptic steam punk designs. Enemy a.i. could be better. In one portion, I am firing a sniper rifle at 6x mangification and the enemies still look like tiny dots. From their perspective, the protagonist might as well be invisible. Yet each of their weapons, no matter a pistol or submachine gun, can hit the protagonist with deadly accuracy. Other times an enemy will get stuck on the terrain or stuck in a climbing loop. Some of the enemies are simply cheap bosses covered in armor with infinite ammo. The saving grace is the surrender system. If you defeat enough enemies, the rest will hold their arms up and surrender. This is a nice break from the suicidal a.i. that run into your bullets.

All in all, Metro Exodus is a top tier game. I am reluctant to call it a shooter. This game has so much more heart and soul than a Call of Duty. Metro Exodus is more of an adventure game that sometimes requires competent shooting skills. The game could use some polish like better enemy a.i., less obvious placement of crafting material, and better models for the giant, irradiated monsters. I am thankful, though, that this game was even created and. In a world of giant coporations buying out every game studio, we need companies that have the freedom to creat these kinds of games. Also, this game was made by a Ukrainian game studio. As I write this review, Ukraine is under seige by Russia and Russian leaders have threatened nuclear war if Western countries intervene. The anti-war message in this game will always be relevant. Please consider donating to relief efforts in Urkaine.

Half of the game that I managed to play was good, the developing/supporting company is garbage.
I played half the game on PS4 and left the rest for when the next gen version was released. Only to find out that the next gen ver on the PS5 "couldn't load" the PS4 save. I was furious and abandoned the game for some months. Finally I decided to replay from the start on the new version. Then I reach the Caspian chapter and near the finish i get stuck on a game breaking bug that has not been fixed years after the release of the game. "The proposed solution" is to replay the chapter that I have already replayed and took hours to reach this point (with no guarantee that it won't happen again) or skip the chapter and loose all progression and trophies from then on.
If I knew all this I would never bother playing this game. Also the game has only auto save so there is NO way to go back to a reasonable point and retry.
To top everything off, the unlock chapters feature disables achievements on your save slot without a proper warning.
    Feck this game.
