Planet Coaster: Console Edition brings this already phenomenal game to a new audience on console. Controls are very well translated over to the controller, and the game runs smoothly on PS5 with really fast load times. It is presented in a very accessible way, but there is also an insane amount of depth for the hardcore players.

Planet Coaster arrives on consoles in scintillating form, offering up near-unlimited options to create the theme park of your dreams with ease. If there’s a hidden gem in the PS5 launch line-up, this is it.

Frontier delivers the best theme park management game, and, this time, brings it to the new consoles with a great version.

The console version of Planet Coaster contains all the charm of the PC version.

Planet Coaster is a solid theme park sim, and one I can see myself spending an unhealthy amount of time playing. I just need to remember not to be too hasty in loading games the second I get to the PS5 dashboard. Twice now I’ve immediately tried to boot it up within a minute of the PlayStation 5 getting to the home screen and crashed it so hard the console databases need rebuilding. Goes to show just how much I like theme parks, right?

A worthy attempt at making a theme parc simulator work on consoles, Planet Coaster will keep you playing for a long time to come. At times you can get dragged down by unnecessary details, though... and the voice-acting isn’t particularly convincing.

If you enjoy business management simulations, then we recommend purchasing a ticket for Planet Coaster: Console Edition. While the coaster creation controls can be unwieldy, Frontier’s done a generally decent job of mapping a very complicated title to the DualSense controller. The title allows for a ton of creativity, but time-strapped entrepreneurs can also have fun with the many pre-made assets available. It’s the kind of game where, once you begin building a park, you’re basically pledging the next 30 hours of your life to doing it properly – but once you start seeing those profits rolling, you may find it difficult to quit.

As a long fan of the genre, nothing quite hit the same level of love that I had for Sim Theme Park. This game takes that game and pushes it beyond anything I could have imagined. The depth and creation that you have at your finger tips is incredible. All I can say is this is the best Coaster Sim game I have played on any console, and it’s not even close. Runs smooth as butter for me and looks amazing on PS5. Please don’t hesitate on buying it if you love these type of games. Expand

I bought the game on a whim and after I started playing I was instantly hooked, and haven’t wanted to play anything else. The game looks stunning on my 65 inch LG CX OLED tv: native 4K, HDR, 60 fps. I always have a smile on my face while playing. The simulation is incredibly deep and satisfying. I can’t recommend this game highly enough. Expand

Unfortunately I believe Planet Coaster players will probably be a small niche of tycoon enthusiasts. I did not find the game very friendly towards players unfamiliar with tycoons and it's not the lack of tutorial content, but the game itself demanding some management skills after certain status is achieved. I believe Planet Coaster could benefit from an easy difficulty for kids since the theme is overall childish, but ends up not being so compelling towards kids outside of the create mode environment.

Overall everything worked well on PS5, but I did notice some dips when my park was getting significantly big, and after I finished my parks there were so many assets on screen that the frame rate dropped to what I would recognize as mid 30's returning to 50's when zoomed in.

During my first parks to which I dedicated hours of decoration, I was using so many assets with the Create tool that my park started flickering because it couldn't handle all the assets at the same time. I believe this could be fixed either by merging the assets by linking them, but apparently even after a structure has been build the assets will still be considered independent even if grouped up.

This is the only issue I've found. I enjoyed the experience, it was a nice ride for sure.

But on the PS5, the controls just feel clunky, and that's some of the only gripes I have about the game. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the customization is amazing, but the pain of turning every track piece, and smoothing it, really holds this game back. Expand
