    A brilliant game. I was sceptical because this is my first roguelike game I have ever played and yes, it is hard af. All souls games seemed to be hard at the beginning but "practice makes you perfect definitely" so I beated all souls-like game on the market with big smile on my face.
    Atmosphere, sound and graphics are just amazing, gameplay is so addictive. I love this game.

    Returnal is both brutal and beautiful. The combat is fast paced and the enemies are relentless which can initially make the game seem quite daunting, but it never stoops to being unfair.     From the cinematic of its introduction, it reveals an extraordinary plot along with the suspense of going in space at the beginning of the gameplay, its style of play is perfect for its theme, the levels increasingly represent a greater difficulty that will change as you play it

    To say the least, I was heavily skeptical of this game going in. I’m happy to say all my fears were unfounded and this game is a prize to play!

    As somebody who has never clicked with rouge-likes I was surprised to find out how much I truly enjoy this game.     This game keeps on surprising me from the beginning to where I am now. At first, I thought the gameplay would drive this game's success but boy was I wrong. The story really hits you at certain points with emotional and horror elements. I wouldn't say the 70 dollar price tag of the game good, I would have loved to see it come in at 60 dollars IMO.     Best Sony exclusive since Bloodborne (and the similarities do not end there). Returnal is crack and greatness, and a myth in the making. In the future, we'll remember and celebrate the game and its legacy with the fondness we now do BB.

    This game is an instant classic. Gameplay is addicting and fun. The graphics are amazing. But perhaps the best part of the game is the 3D sound and next level dualsense support. The 3D sound is so good you feel like you are there. The haptics and adaptive triggers blow away even Astro's Playroom. This game truly feels next gen. To all the clowns giving this a zero you are a bunch ofThis game is an instant classic. Gameplay is addicting and fun. The graphics are amazing.     I've never been adicted to any game before Returnal.
    Please, don't listen to the people rating this game under 9. Is a masterpiece, super funny, and what makes with the Dualsense is on another level. Every negative review, is just trying t bombing out this great exclusive.

    amazing game. expertly crafted, super immersive, and the combat is downright magnificient, honestly so much damn fun. the dieing and restarting can be frustrating at times, but once you get the hang of how the game works, you start to not care when you die. im in love with this game to say the least. addicted.

    This game is unique. I don’t know how to describe it. I’m about 2 hours in and can’t make heads or tails of it. But so far the gameplay and story are sold, it’s not to have another PS5 exclusive.

    It's a fantastic, fast-paced, horror-sci-fi rogue-lite game that I can't stop playing.
    It's hard, not for everyone I would say, but it makes you feel the next level of enjoyment and of accomplishment for every boss you kill.

    Jogo vai evoluindo de acordo com os níveis. Morrer faz parte do progresso. Passei as primeiros três biomas tranquilamente, mas no quarto bioma estou passando bastante trabalho. Não e um jogo que se torna chato de repetir os biomas, já que a cada morte muda, juntamente com os itens e recompensas, não sendo obrigatório derrotar o Boss novamente para chegar onde estava antes de morrer.

    The game is NOT as hard as some people are saying, anyone saying you have to start everything from scratch when you die haven't got pass the first boss or don't have the game. Actually the amount of things you keep inbetween runs is quite lenient for a rogue-like. You get to keep a massive    10/10 cause of review bombing, my honest note would be 8 or 9/10 though, so not that far off.

    The game is NOT as hard as some people are saying, anyone saying you have to start everything from scratch when you die haven't got pass the first boss or don't have the game.
    Actually the amount of things you keep inbetween runs is quite lenient for a rogue-like.
    You get to keep a massive upgrade after each boss, making the first stages way easier, AND you get a pretty massive shortcut to later stages once a boss killed, these shortcuts also adjust your level to the current stage, giving you a hefty boost. (About 5 levels per stage, so on stage 2 you get boosted straight up to level 5, on stage 3 to level 9)

    In a nutshell your usual run at mid-late game will be something like :
    - Rush through the first level trying to get some upgrades if you can
    - Get the shortcut to the level you are currently dying on
    - Get a weapon in the new stage as fast as possible

    And with only that you're pretty much caught up with where you died.

    Now that the discussion about difficulty is over, the game in itself is great, the particle effects are amazing, the gunplay feels really great, (seeing every enemy attack feels way better to me than the usual "invisible" bullets we get in Third Person shooters. Since dodging is possible, getting hit leads to a bigger penalty than in usual TPS), the atmosphere is really great, I was genuinely startled/scared during the first few hours before really figuring out the gameplay loop, the enemy designs and the music, coupled with the weight of the hits you take are really coming together to get this feel of unease. I feel like this game accomplishes what Prometheus aimed for but way better and in video-game form.

    The bosses I've encountered yet are all also very interesting, not cheap but pretty demanding, they have very well defined patterns and it's up to you to react to them, once again knowledge will be your best weapon to defeat a boss giving you trouble.

    This game's worst aspect to me would be its items (which is telling on the quality of the whole game) the items are well thought and usually give you either bonuses, sometimes changing your play style or very interesting risk/reward choices, (a huge bonus with a hefty downside that could cause your downfall) but they rarely bring synergy with the weapon unlike with a Binding of Isaac or a Risk of Rain 2. Sometimes there is some opportunity to do a build around the secondary shot but that's it.
    The game is less about making "the build" but managing a lot of risk/reward choices and trying to survive as best as you can.

    This tamer nature of items is probably a design choice to make the player less reliant on items allowing skilled players to come out on top no matter how unlucky they can be. You can still have some lucky drops making the game easier, but bad luck will usually not cause a death.

    TL;DR : Great Game ! Pretty demanding gameplay wise, but the catching up mecanics are saving the gameloop from being tedious or boring. Would recommend trying it even later down the line, this game is already a top PS5 game to me and should stay in my Top 10 for a good amount of time.    … Expand

    Sehr schönes rogue lite. Zum Zeitpunkt des release das schönste Spiel. Spannende Story und motivierendes Gameplay. Wegen des Schweregrads sicher kein Spiel für jeden. Mich hat das Spiel aber voll gepackt.

    A beautiful crafted game, which gets his inspiration from Prometheus, Lovecraft mitos.

    People need to have a little bit of patience and enjoy the puzzle story and of course the provocative gameplay.

    Never played a roguelike before but this game is honestly really good. The game utilizes the dualsense really well and helps you feel more immersed in the gameplay. Although you have to start over when you die this game is really addicting.
    If you can't handle a challenge then this game isn't for you, anyone rating it below a 7 is probably just mad because the game isn't easy.

    Amazing game. Initially, I did not expect anything from her, and besides, I am not a fan of roguelike. But the space setting still pushed for the purchase. And you know what happened next, I played all night. But I cannot advise everyone, it is rather specific and rather complicated.

Since I heard about ps5 ssd speed, I wanted a game without main menu (very weird) but it’s to take you right to the action of the game. The graphics are superb, not the best visual but it get the job done.     I played with a professional headset and so far the best 3D audio on ps5 to date (same as demon souls). I can pin point the exact location of the enemy. The Dualsense support is just marvelous. I notice you can also locate an enemy with the Dualsense haptic feedback. Very precise. Took the headset off for testing. The only downside is the lack of trigger vibration such as in COD Black Ops Cold War but to compensate the Alt Fire option does the trick for the trigger. Overall its the best game showcasing the haptic feedback beside Astro playroom. The gameplay is fast quick and responsive. The story is very interesting that you have to put together yourself. In general, I got the vibe of Alien or James Cameron’s Avatar. The cons are that I have encountered some bugs during some cycles. I created an item just to find out I am unable to take it. When this happen no door would open, I was stuck in a room. I was lucky I was at the beginning of yhe cycle but when you have good gear such as an artefact that repair your health when its low and you have to start over because of this is annoying. Hopefully it will get patch later on. However I found very frustrating the lack of health item in the game. I will be fighting 100 enemies that will deal huge amount of damage and will have next to zero healing capabilities. I explore to get some health and I once spend 20 minutes looking around to find nothing. I found myself going to a boss room without healing consumables and low health. This is unfair for a game that hard and I am coming from Demon Souls which I platinum.

    This lack of fair gameplay puts me off the game which I really, really want to enjoy. I simply cannot recommend the game to everybody.    … Expand

    This game will get you frustrated, it will feel unfair many times. But that's the only con. The gameplay is a joy otherwise, and the story definitely delivers. A lot of passion was put into this game and it shows. Also, the best boss fights ever.

    Absolutely love this game! Extremely inventive and just plain old fun.
    Fantastic visuals mixed with gameplay that's truly fun and doesn't get old.
    Unlike many other Sony offerings, me and my bf actually like this.
    Zero political agenda too. My fav ps5 game. I voted for GOTY.

It’s hard of course like a roguelike usually does, so many people may not enjoy it because of the hard it can be, and it usually works more about the luck and not about skills.     Gameplay is fun and addictive. Graphics are very nice. Enemy variety is great. Gunplay is exciting. Story is very interesting and mysterious so far. Sound design is amazing. Very challenging tho. Overall I'd give it a solid 9. Very good game :)

    I get that that's part of the beauty/challenge with for example games like enter the gungeon, but It just keeps me from wanting to jump back in a lot more often.

    The bits and pieces of storytelling are perfectly placed to keep you wanting to look in every corner of every map. I don't know man.. there's litterally nothing I can find that I dont like about it. The difficulty is awesome, the visuals are awesome, the haptics are AWESOME! The eery alien kinda horror mood is awesome!!

    I guess honestly only negative, that has been mentioned more often: can't save mid-run.
    My ps5 is in standby mode while I'm working, after work I kinda HAVE to play this game or lose my progress from last night. Not a deal-breaker but just a little quality of life thingy. ohwell.    … Expand

For me it is no 10/10 because the permanent progression feels too weak in comparison to genre contenders and theReturnal is a great display of the power that the PS5 provides. The game itself is brutal yet rewarding journey through 6 areas that are somewhat randomly generated. I like the nature of this rogue-lite, the graphics and boss design are insane and the sound design is superb. For me it is no 10/10 because the permanent progression feels too weak in comparison to genre contenders and the missing auto-save via save and quit is unacceptable. It is not about being able to save, but having to turn off auto-updates and place it into rest mode to persist your game is absolutely off for such an expensive game.

    I am still the opinion that 79€ is too much for this game, although it is a great game that will have you on the hook between 15 to 80 hrs depending on your skill level and whether you want to go for optional stuff. I would definitely recommend this game if you are familiar with fast paced rogue games, shooter and/or bullet-hell games. If this is not your dish then this game will probably drive you nuts. Also I would suggest to get it on a price drop for 10-15%. The game is great but still slightly overpriced in my opinion. Enjoy this great PS5 exclusive!    … Expand

    This game was so harder than expected.
    I'm a souls series fan and returnal is different from that but I played in a tence place.
    That experience was good.
    And resource management was very difficult but every choice taking rise or nothing, was fun.

    Thank you for a good game.

    Oh Housemarque, this why you need save points. Your game has caused my PS5 to crash 2 times now while I was balls deep into my level and legit ready to fight a boss. It would be nice to know I didn't just say **** you to my progress (but I did, 2 times now). Not enough stuff carries over to warrant me to keep playing over, and over again due to a sys crash.     I don't feel save points or the ability to save and quit are unreasonable request, even for a roguelike game. That being said, I feel you've done something phenomal here. Its a beautiful crafted work of art. Its fun, even in its difficulty, and beacons me to play more. And the masterful use of the DualSense's haptic feedback is out of this world! Soundscape/soundtrack on point! Story is wonderful as well! Really look forward to playing more... hopefully with save points, and hopefully sooner than later. Again well done!    … Expand

    Best Ps5 game to date excluding the remake of DS.

    Housemarque was not a bet really. They know how to make awesome gameplay loops. Fun, frenetic and challenging. Just like all housemarque games. Kudos for making something of this scale though.

    Game is awesome, but is not for everyone. yes you die and return to your ship, but the game is still progressing. In fact you need to keep dying to be ready for the bosses and level up your character, as crazy as that sounds. The atmosphere has a real Prometheus (Ridley Scott) vibe, the game play is superb. housemarque really did their thing here.

    There is a learning curve to the game, and above average difficulty, but the process is    I was on the fence whether I should buy it on release or not, and I can say that after I am done with the game, Returnal has become one of my lifetime top games. Yes, the game is an awesome showcase for PS5 features, the framerate is incredibly smooth, but above all, the gameplay is FUN and ADDICTING.
    There is a learning curve to the game, and above average difficulty, but the process is fun! It doesnt feel repetitive, and each time you die, you take as a learning lesson and you just want more! It is like you are sucked in an endless loop with Selene, you always want to play more and more. The game makes excellent usage of dual sense, the 3d audio is amazing for the immersion and the game makes smart use of audio to be part of your gameplay. What I mean is, there is a special shot that you can use, and instead of using a visual UI to show you when the special shot is ready to be used again, there is an audio cue to tell you its ready.

    For those worried about save points and time constraints to play this game, until you finish the game your runs will last at BEST 1 hr. Post game, when you are already good with all upgrades, then yes, your runs could last 1-2hrs. At least I consider myself an average/not very skilled player, I would die much faster than that, I was able to have fun in attempts/runs that would last between 20/30min. And by no means dying necessarily means you made no progress at all, each time you return you may encounter new story pieces revealed to you, and a few items in the game are permanent and stay with you even if you die. Weapon trait upgrades are also permanent. You dont need to defeat any boss more than once, and once you defeat a level boss, there are permanent shortcuts that quickly take you to the latest level you were.
    If you have the opportunity, I strongly suggest playing this game.

    For reference I usually play RPG's and JRPG's, and some games like uncharted, last of us, god of war, and hate soulsborne games.    … Expand

The reason this game is a 9 and not a 10 for me. is because it needs an auto save feature that let's you turn off the console and continue where you left off.     This game is a very interesting challenge, I haven't had any since I played sekiro on PS4, the graphics look great and runs at 60 fps pretty much all the time, looking forward to a sequel.

    8.6/10 - Say what you will about the lack of saving and not having items or weapons carry over during sequences. Those are valid hiccups that possible hold the game back for some including myself at times but nevertheless Returnal for me was a very good game! I thoroughly enjoyed my one with it but certainly felt frustrated during other times but they were not frequent.

    Game is great, gameplay was great, story was weird in a good way, some alien and interstellar vibes. Roguelike sou expect it to be punishing. After finishing all the biomes the story is not over, you still find logs and cutscenes to the story. Well for me atleast i’ve seen 2 after the credits rolled. Maybe there’s another ending. Still having a blast.

    It took me around 23 hours to fully beat the game, and I have to say: it is very difficult. The difficulty didn’t feel unfair and as a soulsborne fan, it was very welcoming. I liked the world of Atropos a lot, the visuals were good, but not too next-gen feeling. Overall, I highly recommend this game. Even if you don’t like the steep 70 dollar price tag, you should try buying it on sale.

    Returnal is an excellent rougelike, phycological horror that really showcases the PS5's SSD and Duelsense capabilities. Housemarque have proved they are a formidable studio with their first AAA title and I can't wait to see what they make next.

    Yes it's challenging and yes the lack of the save feature is an oversight but this is one of Sony's best new IPs in years. The world is fantastic. The gameplay is super addictive and controls are smooth as butter. The story (so far) is spooky as hell. I'll be dumping many hours into this.

The dark mysterious planet of Atropos is a brilliant setting and the unique alien lifeforms pose an incredible challenge. Housemarque turns a bullet hell arcade shooter and gave it a brilliant fleshed out story. Highly recommend this incredible game despiteA brilliant take on a genre I dont often play.     Very Challenging, very Addicting and Very Difficult. Housemarque hit the mark with this one! Visually stunning, very stable 60fps and the addition of the Dualsense's features is the cherry on top.

    Incredible game, demanding and satisfying, sometimes frustrating, it's an incredible and intense experience.

    It felt like a soul-like experience, it's the first rogue-lite I played that much and to the end.

    If you like this kind of games don't skip it!

    A perfect example of the performance of the PS5 and all its functions. Great gameplay and the music catches and won't let go until you get to the bottom of it all. But in the end, the final may surprise you unpleasantly.
