Saints Row is set in Santo Ileso, a vibrant fictional city in the American Southwest and one of the most varied and diverse city locations ever built for a Saints Row game. Three friends join you on your incredible journey to become self made. Neenah, the driver and mechanic with Los Panteros, Kevin who is a DJ and a member of The Idols, and Eli who came to Santo Ileso to make his fortune as an entrepreneur. You play as The Boss and get to decide who you want to be, while building your very own criminal empire. Along the way you must take on three brutal enemy factions who currently control Santo Ileso: Los Panteros are the muscle and the power, The Idols are motivated by fame and notoriety, and Marshall Defense Technologies are a private military conglomerate. Players will be able to enjoy seamless and untethered two-player co-op together, whether they’re playing on the PS4 or PS5. In terms of PS5 specifics, we’re implementing features for next-generation consoles and can’t wait to divulge details closer to the launch of the game. Expand

Volition’s gamble to reset and reground Saints Row pays off generously. A visual delight, with plenty of gameplay mechanics to keep players goofing off for days, and the Santo Ileso setting is one of the best in video game history. Sure, the shooting gets redundant after a while, but with so much to see and do you can go hours in between gun battles. Saints Row manages retain what players loved while feeling fresh and new. Other reboots, take note – this is how you do it.

Saints Row is a necessary reboot for a series that was getting out of hand (pleasingly so, but still), and Volition has made smart decisions in retooling the origins of the purple-clad gang without losing that silly, violent, and crude spirit. It leaves room for future improvement and escalation, and that’s an exciting place to put the Saints in.

Saints Row is a game that becomes quite fun. It's full of great humor and some entertaining action sequences. Unfortunately, its open world can fall into monotony due to the repetition of its secondary activities.

It’s been nine years since Saints Row 4, and this new entry feels like a back-to-basics reboot. But technical issues, bugs, and many more little frustrations conspire to make this a middling experience at launch. It’s unfortunate because when Saints Row fires on all cylinders, it’s an absolute blast with some truly lofty high points.

Saints Row had chance to be something much more, if only the team behind the game tried to take a more bold and careful approach.

I can understand Volition wanting to reboot the Saints Row series given the original launched all the way back in 2006. But the latest entry feels like a backwards step for the developer, with this release misses out on the over-the-top satirical humour that made the series so beloved. As a result, Saints Row now feels like a mediocre open-world action game, becoming just like all of the games at which the series used to poke fun. Mission objectives are bland and repetitive, while the story is boring and lacks cohesion. Worst of all, the slapstick jokes rarely land and are arguably more cringeworthy than they are funny. You can still have fun if you simply want mindless chaotic action, but I’d argue you’d have a better time with the likes of CyberPunk 2077 or even Saints Row The Third Remastered.

It’s a below average open world game that’s stuffed to bursting with bugs, and the best thing we can say about it is that making our Tobias Fünke-inspired character crouch over and do the wanker gesture while he walked down the street made us laugh. Probably not quite worth the price of admission.

I've enjoyed all the saints row games up until now. They game has had many changes and themes but always managed to keep it fun and engaging. This one completely misses the mark. The game is really boring and feels like a really well made Free to play. The city and npcs all seem so unlife like. But what I dislike most are the characters they are just god awful. Idk what demographic they were going for Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Possibly the worst game of 2022. I have never played a game that gave me physical pain and is a insult to the saints row series. the story was horrific and the ending was just bad and rushed garbage. The characters are extremely bad and they are forgettable and just several pieces of paper. they said the open world was going to be alive but they were lying, the open world is even more bland then Stillwater. The gameplay was awful, the shooting feels spongey and the gameplay overall is awful. Overall, the game is the worst game I've played this year and it makes Saints Row IV And Gat Out of Hell look like masterpieces. I do not recommend this game, even if you are a fan of Saints Row Expand

Wow, Volition keeps going downhill. This should have been a new IP -- not used the Saints Row name. Volition discarded everything good aboutWow, Volition keeps going downhill. This should have been a new IP -- not used the Saints Row name. Volition discarded everything good about the Saints, and tried to co-opt these cringey Gen Z kids into the franchise.

Very poor writing, lame jokes, only filled with chatter about student loans, one-liners, and nothing of substance. We don't get any backstory about how they formed, and they do not fill the big shoes left behind from Gat, Shaundi, Pierce, Kinzie, and the rest of the old crew.

The game was delayed 6 months for refinement, and it still releases with many bugs. NPCs doing t-poses, and enemies that spawn in ridiculous places, out of mission areas. Lots of the interactivity is gone from the open-world; you can't do many things as you could before in the previous games.

Character creation is also missing lots of features, such as independent body sliders, hair options, no jiggle physics like in SR3/4, no different walk animations for men and women (it's all the same), and it's overall shifted to making ugly characters. Character faces are flat and not detailed.

The main story is very short, the game is a ghost town. This was supposed to replicate Las Vegas (the city that never sleeps), but there's rarely any NPCs out. Compared to even it's previous games, the world is empty. The audio mix of the game is off, so some times the sound is really low. Man, there's just so many things wrong with this game.

Go watch all the reviews on Youtube that point out all these problems, if you don't take any word here. It's all documented. Volition is playing scared; their recent string of bad games have made them super conservative, and afraid of taking risks, and it shows. Outdated gameplay design can't carry them any more, and they tried to jump aboard the Gen Z demographic, but really failed here.
