Saints Row is set in Santo Ileso, a vibrant fictional city in the American Southwest and one of the most varied and diverse city locations ever built for a Saints Row game. Three friends join you on your incredible journey to become self made. Neenah, the driver and mechanic with Los Panteros, Kevin who is a DJ and a member of The Idols, and Eli who came to Santo Ileso to make his fortune as an entrepreneur. You play as The Boss and get to decide who you want to be, while building your very own criminal empire. Along the way you must take on three brutal enemy factions who currently control Santo Ileso: Los Panteros are the muscle and the power, The Idols are motivated by fame and notoriety, and Marshall Defense Technologies are a private military conglomerate. Players will be able to enjoy seamless and untethered two-player co-op together, whether they’re playing on the PS4 or PS5. In terms of PS5 specifics, we’re implementing features for next-generation consoles and can’t wait to divulge details closer to the launch of the game. Expand

Volition’s gamble to reset and reground Saints Row pays off generously. A visual delight, with plenty of gameplay mechanics to keep players goofing off for days, and the Santo Ileso setting is one of the best in video game history. Sure, the shooting gets redundant after a while, but with so much to see and do you can go hours in between gun battles. Saints Row manages retain what players loved while feeling fresh and new. Other reboots, take note – this is how you do it.

Saints Row is a necessary reboot for a series that was getting out of hand (pleasingly so, but still), and Volition has made smart decisions in retooling the origins of the purple-clad gang without losing that silly, violent, and crude spirit. It leaves room for future improvement and escalation, and that’s an exciting place to put the Saints in.

Saints Row is a game that becomes quite fun. It's full of great humor and some entertaining action sequences. Unfortunately, its open world can fall into monotony due to the repetition of its secondary activities.

It’s been nine years since Saints Row 4, and this new entry feels like a back-to-basics reboot. But technical issues, bugs, and many more little frustrations conspire to make this a middling experience at launch. It’s unfortunate because when Saints Row fires on all cylinders, it’s an absolute blast with some truly lofty high points.

Saints Row had chance to be something much more, if only the team behind the game tried to take a more bold and careful approach.

I can understand Volition wanting to reboot the Saints Row series given the original launched all the way back in 2006. But the latest entry feels like a backwards step for the developer, with this release misses out on the over-the-top satirical humour that made the series so beloved. As a result, Saints Row now feels like a mediocre open-world action game, becoming just like all of the games at which the series used to poke fun. Mission objectives are bland and repetitive, while the story is boring and lacks cohesion. Worst of all, the slapstick jokes rarely land and are arguably more cringeworthy than they are funny. You can still have fun if you simply want mindless chaotic action, but I’d argue you’d have a better time with the likes of CyberPunk 2077 or even Saints Row The Third Remastered.

It’s a below average open world game that’s stuffed to bursting with bugs, and the best thing we can say about it is that making our Tobias Fünke-inspired character crouch over and do the wanker gesture while he walked down the street made us laugh. Probably not quite worth the price of admission.

This is one of the best games released so far in 2022. The writing is not on the level of RDR2, but I never expected it to be. It's a Saints Row game for crying out loud. The gameplay is fun, a good variety of weapons. The new characters are actually interesting with deep backstories. The venture building can get a little repetitive, but not moreso than gaining respect in SR2 to continue the story. There are bugs, but not anywhere near as close to Cyberpunk or AC Unity I have not encountered a single game breaking bug throughout my time with he game. Overall if you're a Saints Row Fan new or old just ignore the haters and get this game. Expand

As most have experience, this game is riddle with bugs, but don't let that deter you from a great reboot. The story is interesting and enjoyable with numerous moments that will have you laughing. Some of the glitches and bugs can get annoying but for the type of game Saints Row is, the glitches actually adds a bit of humor to me. Found it very funny to go into a bar ans beat the crap out of a guy to see the guy vanish, but still see your character attack an invisible person. I know that might not be idle for many, but for some it adds some hilarious moments. This game is definitely not perfect, but it isn't a complete waste either. Characters are enjoyable, side quests are fun [especially Larping] and overall kept me well entertained. Nice to not always have to deal with the **** weapons or the extreme perversion, but something still violent, vulgar, and funny. If you are skeptical wait for a sale, but for me at least, I don't regret dropping the full price tag I paid since I still received my overall enjoyment. Expand

How do you drop the ball THIS HARD??? I forced myself through the story because I so desperately wanted to like it but it was such a waste of time. Disappointed doesn't begin to describe my thoughts on it.

No bug fixes/patches will fix this garbage. Even without the bugs, it's just plain old boring. I could rant on in detail for the full 5000 characters that you're allowed to use in these reviews and still couldn't explain to you everything wrong here. Anyway, do better Volition. Peace out x

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Possibly the worst game of 2022. I have never played a game that gave me physical pain and is a insult to the saints row series. the story was horrific and the ending was just bad and rushed garbage. The characters are extremely bad and they are forgettable and just several pieces of paper. they said the open world was going to be alive but they were lying, the open world is even more bland then Stillwater. The gameplay was awful, the shooting feels spongey and the gameplay overall is awful. Overall, the game is the worst game I've played this year and it makes Saints Row IV And Gat Out of Hell look like masterpieces. I do not recommend this game, even if you are a fan of Saints Row Expand

A long-standing series utterly thrown to the dogs with this trainwreck of a reboot. Janky gameplay, insufferable characters, terrible writing and straight-up broken physics.

Make no mistake, the Volition that made the original series has long left the building. You now have developers more concerned about pronouns and PC culture than making a decent game and doing the series justice. Avoid like the plague.
