The DioField Chronicle is a very entertaining game thanks to its combat system that feels new, agile, and challenging. It takes the best of an RTS and combines it with passive elements of a strategy RPG, resulting in a demanding experience. It is an enjoyable game to play, but its price at the moment is not the most accessible. Get it when it is on sale.

The DioField Chronicle surpasses every expectation, delivering a great Strategy RPG thanks to its challenging real-time battle system and a rich setting that sustains a great story full of politics and good characters. The few issues are due to the simplistic progression system and the narrative that could be even better, but its a game that deserves the attention of fans of the genre.

We found The DioField Chronicle to be a fresh, interesting and entertaining strategy game. There are several details that could be polished, but in the end its strengths shine enough to be insignificant. We are talking about a game that genre enthusiasts will want to try.

The Diofield Chronicle is a low-stakes bet from Square Enix and Lancarse: a new IP that tries something new in a very conservative genre. We liked the end result, even if far from perfect, and we'd like also to see a better funded sequel in two or three years.

The DioField Chronicle basically has good potential, not always exploited properly. With this atypical experiment, the suspicion is that the developer Lancarse has aimed mostly at the casual audience or at least the neophytes of the genre, who through The DioField Chronicle could in fact approach for the first time the evergreen world of strategists and remain trapped in it. All the others will still be able to let themselves be carried away by an intriguing narrative system and an incredibly rich mythology. With the right precautions to the playful formula, The DioField Chronicle could become the starting point on which to build a valid and innovative series.

It hasn’t hit the heights of other strategy RPG contenders, but The DioField Chronicle shows a lot of promise. It’s different, it’s engaging, and it’s got a fast pace that moves from battle to battle. I felt like I got a good, interesting strategy RPG experience out of this first game, and I really do hope there’s more in store. DioField certainly has the space for it.

The DioField Chronicle is a decent strategy RPG. Its characters certainly won't live long in the memory, and it can be a an unnecessary grind, but it's well crafted and fairly engaging on the battlefield.

    Good-
Solid worldbuilding; Story is consistently enjoyable at least on a superficial level; Real-time battles are a fresh break from genre conventions; Managing units and their positioning can be engaging.

    Bad-
Extremely dull characters; Battles eventually get repetitive; Not enough variation in mechanics, enemies, and objectives; Under baked hub location; Visually bland.

    Thoughts-
The DioField Chronicle is an exciting proof-of-concept, and it has to be commended for its real-time tactics ambitions and for its story, which is, at the very least, enjoyable, if not wholly original. It’s a game where there’s definitely fun to be had and things to be appreciated. But it feels underbaked in more ways than one, and even the pats of the game that are good are often marred by significant flaws. For hardcore genre fans, The DioField Chronicle might be worth looking into, but keep in mind that many probably might not have patience for its considerable flaws.

I'm actually shocked they released a demo for a game this bad. The game feels like it was made by amateur developers who are not actual game designers. The game mechanics are completely boring and devoid of any strategy at all. Read the GameSpot review. The early reviews that give it good scores are totally bogus. Two of them clearly didn't even play the game. Expand
