    Though the breadth of the upgrades that the PS5 brings to WRC 9 is expected and somewhat unambitious to an extent, the truth is that developer Kylotonn has provided a delectable coat of polish to what is already considered to be one of the finest rally games in years. If you've got a PS5 and you want a rally racing sim to cut your teeth on, they don't come any better than WRC 9.

    Of all of the PS4 games that have had PS5 upgrades, WRC 9 shows the most improvement. Sharper visuals in 4K running at a consistent 60 FPS transform an average looking game into a gorgeous one. Combined with an unchanged driving system that needed no tweaking and excellent DualSense implementation that elevates it, this takes 1st place as the best racing game on PS5 so far.

However, it’s the game’s use of the haptic feedback technology provided by DualSense that really takes centre stage here, potentially offering a transformative experience for players who choose to play with a controller.

    WRC9 is a great example of a crossplatform port. Kylotonn should be applauded for their sterling efforts here, especially with regard to using Dualsense. Yes, rallying might not be for all, but this is a fine driving game which utilises the WRC licence to great effect.

The controls are more similar to dirt rally rather than previous wrcs, except this is even better. They also made great use of the DualSense ps5 controller.     I’ve been playing rally games for decades and I’m not that serious about them. I like it when they strike a good balance between fun andI’ve been playing rally games for decades and I’m not that serious about them. I like it when they strike a good balance between fun and simulation and I think this one does that well. The cars handle well, most of the courses are fun to drive and the difficulty system can be adjusted easily and without penalty (or incentive depending on how you look at it).
    It’s not perfect though - there are some tedious and pointless tasks in career mode and not much of a progression system. Overall I think the graphics are great but the stone and brick walls that pop up in some levels are extraordinarily bad. I honestly dont think I've seen such blocky, unsoftened and low-quality texture walls since PC games in the mid-90's. I find them so bad that I often crash when they pop up because I'm so gobsmacked at how bad they. Luckily they don't come up much (mostly in the Monaco stages). The PS5 controller stuff is fun and adds to the immersion. Overall I like this game and am glad I waited till it was on sale. If I'd paid full price I'd probably have expected it to be a bit more polished    … Expand
