Taking equal inspiration from hack 'n slash dungeon crawlers (procedurally generated dungeons, loot drops, etc) and Metroidvania-style platformers, the game aims to immerse you in its 2D fantasy world full of exciting treasure, deadly enemies, and abundant secrets.

Players take up the role of a soldier passing through a remote mining town on their journey home from a long war. The town's miners have recently disappeared after breaching a long-forgotten temple far below the town, and reawakened an ancient slumbering evil. Now trapped in the town by supernatural forces, you're left with no option but to explore the mines below, battle enemies and bosses, and increase your abilities in hopes of finally escaping and returning home.

Really reminded me of classic Castlevania, like SOTN. The controls were tight, the weapons were varied, and the combat was well designed. I felt through the whole game that I was getting more skilled at maneuvering as I unlocked new skills. The random generation didn't make me want to start over and try again however. Maybe with an update it'll encourage more diversity in its play but for now one 100% playthrough was enough for me. Expand

If you've even a mild curiosity about the Metroidvania fuss, Chasm will more than school you in how to do one right. Ignore all of the 'procedural' garbage – it's mostly nonsense and won't have much impact on your first play-through anyway, and what you're left with is 2D platform-questing excellence. I know when I appreciate a great Vita game when they sell me cross-play and I never once bother to boot it up on my PS4. Chasm is that good – possible the best Vita action game of the past two years. And when I think of all the great Vita action games we've had recently, Iconoclasts among them, that's heavy praise. Chasm deserves it.

I've noticed that Chasm got some rather mixed reviews on Steam. I'm going to assume that the fine people using Steam (myself included) are spoiled for choice at times and didn't give it a fair shake.
