Tamsoft went into this one with a clear brief to do something heavily fanservicey, and even by comparison to its work on Action Unleashed, MegaTagmension certainly achieves that.

It’s a fine starter entry for the series too since the plot is essentially a blank slate, so if you haven’t tried it out yet, give MegaTagmension a shot.

If you're looking for an introduction to the beat 'em up genre, look no further - as MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies is a prime choice for just that very purpose. That said, anyone else may have a hard time finding a challenge, and the story just isn't all that cohesive or memorable.

MegaTagmension presents an unspectacular experience that could have presented a lot more with the concept it had. When put side-by-side with Neptunia U, I had a far better time with the latter - at least when it came to the single player mode.

If you can look past pretty much everything the game offers you may find that there’s enjoyment to be had here.

For a series that sparkles with personality, MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies is a hard game to recommend when it feels like an inferior cut-and-paste job of Neptunia U.

If you’re a massive fan of the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, or not at all picky about your hack-and-slash titles, you might get a kick out of MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies. Unfortunately, there’s not much I can say is worth the investment for anyone else; outside of a decent multiplayer mode, the game only has a mind-numbingly dull campaign to offer.

When it comes to the exciting high speed speed battle this game is leagues ahead of Neptunia Action Unleashed. While the story is simple it hold up through the entire game and feels like it has purpose being in the game. Also with the multiplayer mode you can enjoy the game over over and over with your friends giving it more of a replay value than Neptunia Action Unleashed. MegaTagmension Blanc is a huge step in the right direction when it comes to the spin off titles in the series. A must have addition to any Neptunia fans PSVita or Steam collection. Expand

The gameplay is musou and is an improved upon the system of Action U, with a better story arch and battles are much shorter where the longest battles by far are those of the bosses. As such the grinding of Action U is none present in this game. The online mode is also very good, where this is where you go for longevity after you complete the main story. Different bosses also have different weaknesses towards different weapon types (or even require them to take parts off in order for others to do damage, like shells), so some of the hardest bosses require teamwork which kinda makes the online a semi-MMO experience, or much like Toukiden/Monster Hunter, where you talk to others through emotes/pre recorded messages (and there is A LOT of them).

In short, if you like Neptunia games and musou games then this is a decent purchase. It may not be as flawless as Senran Kagura, Hyrule or Dynasty Warriors in gameplay, but it is good enough to keep you interested throughout the story, and the late game boss fight mechanics is entertaining once you've finished the main content if you still feel like sticking around.

MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune vs Zombies is somehow a worse version of HYPERDIMENSION NEPTUNIA U: Action Unleashed.

Menu navigation is a pain due to slow transistions between screen and load times when going through the character setup screen. The UI issues also extend to the game’s battles where the game does not in anyway inform you when your abilities (activated by holding R+one of the face buttons) comes off cooldown, leading to your character of choice being stuck guarding.

While the game does have a large cast of playable character ranging from longtime fan favorites to new additions to the Neptunia multiverse the game punishes you for using more than a small number of them. If you try and use all of the characters evenly you’ll quickly find that you are far underleveled for the enemies you’re facing in later chapters. Pick two characters whose play styles you like and just stick with them throughout the story mode. I would heavily suggest taking Vert and Ram/Rom since these three have the best combination of abilities to deal with both large hordes of enemies and smaller groups or 1v1 boss fights.

The only consistently good part of MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune vs Zombies is the cutscenes between action stages. All the referential and pun focused humor seen in other Neptunia games is here and is as enjoyable as it ever was. If you bring certain characters for a mission you can even get a different version of the scene that plays before the action stage.

If you are in dire need of an action focused Neptunia game then pass this one by and get HYPERDIMENSION NEPTUNIA U: Action Unleashed instead. While there is less story in Neptunia U the gameplay is far better in every respect.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Megatagmension Blanc is overhyped beyond compare. The gameplay for single player is bland at best, the multiplayer plays like a game from 2003, and Blanc's zombie story is absolutely awful. She simply decided to throw in cliches despite how much awful storytelling it would put out. I love the Neptunia Franchise, but this game serves as a negative stereotype as to how Neptunia would look to plebs. That in of itself worries me. I prefer their Re;Birth mechanics the best. Casual Dungeon exploration, turn based battle mechanics, and a story that feels original. They did not play to a single strength of theirs here, nor did they step out of their comfort zone with the zombie subgenre. They didn't even do a good job with the school setting! There were some fun scenes here and there (looking at you Magical Noirina ;) ) and the OST has a couple of good songs in it. I'm giving it a 1 because it is deserving of it. It neither captures the fun of Neptunia nor does it break ground in any shape. Not to mention that the visual and gameplay mechanics are dependent upon the lowest connection speed. Ugh. Buy it on sale, not for full price. Expand
