MonsterBag is a charming experience that doesn't last long, but we think everyone should at least give it a try, particularly if they get it with the PS Plus subscription.
This puzzle platformer starts great, then looses some of its momentum along the way. It's still a small, curious project, and it might be really worth a try.
Nice art, good story and very enjoyable... just give it a try and be happy!
From a Chilean studio with a very good idea that works in every language without problems!
Monsterbag is an interesting experiment with a really nice presentation, superb art and adequate music. Unfortunately, we cannot say the same about the gameplay. Despite the creativity in some puzzles it feels repetitive, confusing and short. IguanaBee has a lot of potential, maybe in future games we will be greatly surprised.
The high level of creativity on display in MonsterBag’s humour, art style and character is commendable. Sadly, the game is on the short side and offers little replay value to back it up.
IguanaBee hit the nail on the head of creativity and capturing my attention with their unique character and world design. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the gameplay, which is unusually redundant for such a short game.
This game was a surprise! it's so fun and simple that I love it. Puzzles are smart but in the perfect quantity for me (because usually I **** in the puzzles games). Whatever, cute art and the animation quality for scenes are perfect.
Stylish (look a bit like Adventure Time), original and a bit weird, it's a puzzle game where you not supposed to be seen by others, unless you want to be "brutally killed". I can't really explain the story, because we just following little girl as a monster... yeah, that's not creepy at all. Anyway, I'm not gonna suggest bying it, but if you have PS PLUS, give it a try.
MonsterBag is a game perhaps guilty of being a bit too much style over substance. The game is excellently animated akin to Adventure Time and runs very smoothly. One of the big surprises of the game is its substantial gore that effectively works contrastingly with the animation style. The story is interesting as you, a monster named V, strive to get to your friend Nia. The story is interesting and improves throughout the game getting more outlandish and wild. The cutscenes in particular are very impressive.
The gameplay is very simple however can be initially frustration as there is a lack of explanation. After a few deaths it becomes pretty clear as the gameplay is logical, handholding is not required. This is essentially a side scrolling stealth game, the character has to remain out of eye sight and hence move when characters look away and learn the eye patterns. It never gets much more complicated that this. Speeding up this formula adds difficulty but makes it feel more like a rhythm game. Late game adds more elements such as screens to change patterns which is much needed but not game changing
Overall the game is easy aside from side cheap deaths due to respond issues and also some frustrating deaths when the character appeared to be moving at a safe time. The game is very short and a good one sitting game that never reaches great nights. The gameplay doesn't match the aesthetic but what you do get is a visual delight with an intriguing story and adequate gameplay, very much worth the free PS+ download.
Loved : the graphics, the fun, the story / Liked : the gameplay / Liked less : the last levels, the annoying alien movement pattern, the die-and-retry / Disliked: thinking of it now, despite the fact that I cursed a lot, nothing.
SummaryForgetful Nia leaves behind her monster backpack, V, on her way to the bus stop. In a world afraid of monsters, help V catch up to Nia while avoiding been seen by the humans. Oh, yeah! Watch out for the apocalypse.
